back then, there wasn't any difference. CART was the governing body of the IndyCar World Series. In 1996 Tony George, owner of the Indianapolis Motorspeedway started it's own series, and got the rights for the name "IndyCar". The new fomed Indy Racing League (IRL) was from now on the governing body for IndyCar, while CART renamed their open wheel single seater championship to ChampCar. This split went on until 2007. In 2008 IndyCar and ChampCar "merged", and they were back together, as IRL.
I agree, drivers like Paul Tracy brings some kind of aura to the race. Races becomes better if there's bunch of interesting drivers at the field, like Juan Pablo Montoya, Paul Tracy.
Wow! Classic indy car mayhem in the closing laps. And no, I refuse to retroactively refer to this as Champ car racing. This is the *real* indy car series. Period.
I liked both Vancouver layouts a lot. Real shame they don't race there anymore. I can't believe that Vancouver is building Olympic villages where the track layouts once were for the winter games in 2010.
Thanks for the video. I've been wondering which race it was when Emmo and Nige had that famous shot of them walking down pitlane furious with each other.
beautiful shot of the penske machine screaming through the tunnel at full blast. 6:26 more awesome than Monaco

this config was awesome. anyone know why they changed it in '98-'04? it was like monaco, except most of it was flat-out sweepers! awesome!

Paulie must have learned a lot from Michael A., because HE has bulldozed many, many drivers later.

CART was great. The IRL is a fucking bore.

Damn. IndyCar used to be such an awesome series. "ChampCar" and IRL are mere fragments of a shadow of what the real IndyCar used to be.
