this song always make me feel so tingly and weird, in a good way. whenever i feel sad or lonely, i know mr.E will always be there for me. his music speaks straight to my heart.
Then the label ehard it and loved it! If you ahven't read it I'd highly recommend Es autobiography - Thin gs the grandchildren should know. You can even get an audio version read by the chet :-D
Amazingly powerful lyrics, and what makes it so special is that such hopeful lyrics finish an otherwise quite bleak album. The hopeful undertone of this song overpowers all gloom in the other tracks. "A careful man tries to avoid the bullets, while a happy man takes a walk... Maybe it's time to live". Amazingly powerful lyrics which have given new courage to me on several occasions.
@extreem573 It was the best concert of the festival after Roxy Music. But I think I'd prefer to see E in a room rather than a festival. There were different kinds of songs and atmospheres and it's obvious E had to reduce them. In a room, his gig would be more "complete"!
Ohh and I love Coldplay, I went and saw them at Manchester on September 12th - they played some of their older songs such as Fix You and The Scientist then.
Ah, great...........the X&Y album was also a masterwork....same as their '02 and '00 album.
My favorite Verve song is Lucky man, from '99.
But I'm affraid they can't take their earlier fame back with their last song they launched (''Love is noise'') It's a nice song.....but I really miss the emotions that the bitter sweet symphony, The drug don't work and Luckyman gave me during listening.....
Now bands like Editors and White Lies give me that dark emotional feeling back.
Oh yeah, Love is Noise was alright, but I never really got into it or bothered buying the single.
I love White Lies :) Funny you should say them, they were one of the supporting acts at Coldplay. They were really good, but sadly everyone was waiting for Coldplay and knew that we had about two hours to wait so the crowd wasn't really responsive. Bit dissapointing really, they were much better than Jay-Z and he had loads of response.
@43447 omg sorry i noticed everyone corrected you lol my bad dude i guess everyone here is whats left of the younger verve fans I'm 17 people i know say "wtf is a verve?" lol urban hymns tracks and b-sides are the best song they made.
Its such a simple song but I love it <3

is this the original track? the sound quality is pretty low, the vocals are barely heard, like the mix is not final. I love this song by the way.

12 sick and sober hours from midnight to midday in a freezing glasgow station. Worth it to see my all time favourite human being on stage.

I was at a funeral the day i realized
I wanted to spend my life with you
Sitting down on the steps at the old post office
The flag was flying at half mast
And i was thinking 'bout how
Everyone is dying
And maybe it is time to live

This song comes as a sort of relief after such a dark album!
I'm going to see Eels live in France in August 2010 and I can't wait to see them!

@drowsynumbness Well it was very good but it's the kind of show that would have been more appropriated in a room than in a festival.

Very very beautiful song........
It's pretty simple, but the lyrics are clearly.
The stringed instruments makes the emotional feeling much stronger.
I really love songs with stringed instruments into....
The Verve is also one of my favorites.
It gives a very strong emotion.
Same as (Original) piano sounds, like the older Coldplay songs.
There were enough moments they moved me close to tears.
Thanks for sharing this great track!

@43447 Lucky Man by The Verve is on Urban Hymns which was released in 1997 and not in 1999.

@lyonslaforet Yeah,.............you're right, I think I had a misunderstanding when I wrote that comment.
Normally years of recording are not any problem for me.
I know them (almost ;) ) all............
