MriSatai that wasn't a fatal dragster crash with the Don Prudhomme interview- the driver survived but the crash is famous because it was the finals for the Indy Nationals and was on Wide World of Sports at the time. It was around '71 though.
Excellent video. Really portrays the thrill and dangers of motor racing. For some reason I started to feel really hot at 5:12 and broke out in a terrible sweat. I wonder why...
0.34 Frank Lockhart, One of the greatest racers of all times. The remains of his car were buried in the sand were he died. They were dug up in the early eighties, but where are they now?? The engine out of that car was used in a few Indy races by other people. Very unique twin crankcase engine that was designed by F.Lockhart.
@lyon406 Hi and greetings from Wales UK, hate to correct anyone on here but that was actually Parry Thomas in the car `Babs` attempting the world land speed record on Pendine Sands here in Wales, he was killed when one of the drive chains to the rh rear wheel let go and by most accounts cut him in two and flipped the car.
Yes 0:34 watch close near end of that clip Frank was ejected and his body was throne some 50' from car!, sad point he had sent a telegram to his mom telling her she can stop sewing because after he set the land speed record she would never have to work agian!! the next day he died R I P Frank Lochart
is300ss, get hold of a copy of "Decade of Thrills II" and you will see quite plainly that 4.44 was not fatal ...as the commentary said, cut through all layers of his firesuit but he survived. However they did say that armco was a bad thing and concrete retaining walls are better.
Say, the slingshot tearing itself in half @ 4:20-ish, that wouldn't be the Prudhomme - Nicolls race from 1970, would it? Legend has it that Nicolls (the left lane from our perspective) climbed out of the wreck shouting "I WON! I WON!" while Prudhomme was certain that he had died in the clutch explosion which sawed the car in half... I'd say he was one lucky due walking out of that one with all his parts still attached! Great video!
That's Donald Campbell, British speed king (1921-1967) who was and is the only person ever to hold both the land speed record and the world water speed record in the same year - 1964. He was killed on Coniston Water on 4th January 1967 attempted to break his own world water speed record at 300 mph. His boat Bluebird K7 was recovered in 2001 and is currently being re-built.
That roll on the beach is Frank Lockhart and that was 1928. Killed him dead when his head took the weight and momentum of the rolling car Black Hawk. Front blowout.
diggerfanjsb he was an brittish racer one or not the fastest man he was in a rocket powerd car! i think they were rollce royce engines[since ww1 rollce royce has been the engine provider for the r.a.f.] look him up sometime!
Awesome video! ...some historical footage in this video. Who was that at the beginning, with the quote, "I have survived the fastest crash that mankind has ever survived"?
Very well made. Even though there were fatal crashes, I enjoyed the way you put this together. The music seemed to fit the action very well. BTW, that last crash (Ron Eulenfeld @ Daytona 1965), I have color footage of it and has 4 different angles. It was indeed a scary one. Good job on this!

@schanche1965
I had read that he had a habit of driving with his head tilted to the right and when the chain (same side) let go basically took his head off.
