  • OMG I think i just died and came back to life

  • I take my hat off to anyone who first can transcribe the origianl performance, then play it with such conviction - bravissimo'''''''''' (any chance of procuring the transcription?)

  • Jim is an awesome pianist as well as a great human being!

  • Amazing!

  • Very well done. Oscar would smile and proud.

  • It's amazing that he transcribed it!

But it's amazing that someone could create that out of nothing.

    R.I.P Oscar Peterson!

  • That's amazing how anyone could transcribe it let alone play it.

  • Very, very very good! Good job mate.

  • 19 people accidentally choose dislike

  • WOW, that was just fantastic. whoever disliked this is an idiot

  • those 19 dislikes are gay!

  • Yeah man...

  • 3:24 I hate that chord, it means that the song is over and that I have to get up and push the replay button.

  • 3:24 I hate that chord, it means that the song is over and that I have to get up and push the replay button.

  • how in the name of all gods you can dislike that

  • awesome

  • Hi I want to ask you if you have this video still in a higher quality??

I am really interested in your VERY NICE moves!

  • good job. thats a very good transcription

  • OK 1:42 blues lick of the century!!

Well done! I'm a HUGE Oscar Peterson fan and I must say... your touch and sound... you're practically there. Nice left-hand sound and accompaniment (and obviously, lucky you for those A-G-C# stretches :) It's almost impossible for me to get that G in the middle... ).

I loved the execution of that magnificent blues decent at 1:42 !! Well done!

Always captivating to hear your playing...!

  • I love this!!!!!!!! Where do you sell a music for this?

  • good transcriptions thanks

  • Wonderful work!!!!

  • do you live in sacramento ca?.........i like how u play, i would like your cd's, where can i buy them?... I live in sac too. GB

  • Wow.

  • I would so like to be able to cover 10 notes with my left hand like you do

  • Great job!!

  • Muy Bueno, entonces ya encontre un pianista para arreglar mi musica.

  • How do you get that good.

  • @geltvaha I don't know for him, but Oscar peterson started piano at seven (he played trompet since five) and played about 6 hours a day for his whole life.

  • Mr. Martinez, I just bought your rendition of "Surely The Presence Of The Lord" because I can't get it out of my head! I heard it on an internet radio station and I Had to get it because it completely changed my mood for the better the first time I'd heard it! I didn't even realize that this video was the same person who recorded that beautiful piece! Your an amazing pianist and I'll never understand how 17 people could chose dislike but you can't please everyone. Keep up the Great work!

  • @RayfieldA Thanks so much...I truly appreciate that!! I am so happy that the music touched you like that...Praise God. A note like yours is music to my ears (eyes?) :-)

  • @itmsjim can you give me the music for this i really like this song. thankyou

  • That Peterson arrangement is mind-blowing.

  • @freeqwerqwer Beautiful!!!!

  • Unreal!

  • Awesome! Jim, you are amazing!!!

  • youre not oscar peterson... :(

    good job though :p

  • Soooo good. I've listened to the original 100s of times. One of the best transcriptions I've heard of ANY music: accuracy, the pulse of the missing guitar and bass, feel, technique. That does it for me as well. Instant subscribe.

  • Sorry but I never said you played like a "White boy?".. Ok i Regret what i Said ... do you forgive me? I really like how you play, dont get me Wrong, its just that I Love Dynamics and I dont hear any in here.

  • @SkunkDroppings I Agree with you, i Study JAzz but Anyway.. this guy is pLayin one of my Fav songs...!! So BRAVO!!!!!!!!!

  • I was looking forward to his renowned "blocked chords "section of the song, were u able to transcribe that section? any way, I loved, being able to see, exactly Oscar was playing! Oscar Peterson, a man of many styles and tricks!

  • Awesome stuff man! I thought I'd commented back then but realized I had not.

  • You are one seriously talented man!

  • I don't know if this has been asked already. I can't make out what brand of piano your are playing. Beautiful tone, as well as awesome playing!!!! Could you tell me what it is?

  • Awesome!!! Love It. Thank you sharing and God Bless.

  • Congratulations Jim!

Please continue to transcribe OP's masterpieces.

    Thank you.

    Gonzague from France.

  • This is excellent. Anyone have any pointers on how a none-jazz player and learn this song? I want to learn how to run up and down the keyboard that fast.

  • Well played :) I guess well transcribed, but I didn´t check with the original. A lot of stretchy- chords in left hand. C-E is ok, but A-C# is impossible to me unless I make an operation in my left hand :) Hehe.. sounds like I´m crazy. Just a jazz- pianist/teacher/composer :)

  • clap clap clap clap bravo maestro! inspiring!!

    Blessings!!

  • Very nice. I can almost hear a small trio accompanying you. I think OP himself would like it.

  • Wow I can't believe 16 retards dislikes this.

  • wow very nice!

  • awesome rendition of "Tenderly". Always a master of the keyes, O. Peterson!!!

  • quite brilliant

  • Goose bumps!! One of my all time favorite pieces of piano, that 1949 classic, and to hear it by someone else -- FANTASTIC!

  • awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sick!:)

  • Bravo!

  • You transcribed THAT?!!! Kudos to the n'th degree!!!

  • Man, i wish i could play like that! Very good, perfect skill! God gave you a great gift!

  • Very very ... Very ,... Nice. ! ;) Thanks Jim.

  • Just beautiful! I loved it!

  • 2:10 - 2:25 was so good

  • Not one superfluous key on that piano; not one superfluous note in that arrangement. Great stuff

    Thanks

    John

  • qué querés que te diga hermano...

  • dude. wow. that's all i have to say!

  • For some reason this reminds me of The Great Gatsby...

  • spectacular.

  • BRAVO !!

  • Just Great!!

  • WOW! Very very talanted!!

  • @itmsjim I understand! Just don't reply to those comments that's the key!

They're incredibly impressive piano skills, keep it up!

  • Play the Art Tatum version THEN I'll be impressed.

  • Toca muito cara, muito mesmo!!! (portuguese)

  • Awesome speed and accuracy. Clear evidence of classical training. Good arpeggios and chords too

  • About as good as it gets!

Plus the pianist is a dead ringer for my nephew.

  • I've watched this over and over and again. I love your rendition! PLEASE BE MY TEACHER.

  • owned it

  • FANTASTIC!!!!

  • すげ〜

  • oh dear lord...beautiful!!!!

  • amazing, but kinda fast for the tune........is it sped up or did oscar originally play it that fast?

  • Fantastic!

    Thanks for the inspiration.

    Tom

    NYC

  • So impressive! Thanks for keeping Oscar alive. :)

  • I'm going to learn that song now

  • You are amazing!!well done

  • Lately, there are quite a few guys on youtube that seem to have mastered Oscar's technique. I've heard a few guys come even closer than this guy.

  • AMAZING!!!

  • I want to steal your fingers while you sleep.

  • Wonderful! The song is a display of brilliant piano playing skill. The whole 88 keys of a piano are at work.

  • You know to play a transcribed solo Correctly, as if you were him! Cool beans!

  • Amazing. One of the best Oscar P. imitations I have seen. Nicely done.

  • Your very VERY good! Now this is no offense, you played that about as close to Oscar Peterson as I have ever heard, but something about OP, I have never heard ANYBODY able to duplicate his style & sound. It's like a person can play the same song exactly the same way as him, note for note, exact tempo, even same piano, but "something"?, is always "missing". It's like a 6th sense?, or maybe a piece of his soul, (the power in his hands too) makes it impossible to duplicate his signature sound.

  • It's impossible for a rose to be a lily!

  • You have a great feel for Oscar's articulations! the solo sounded just like him.

  • slow down, lol, just seems like a better piece slower, more sentimental that way to me

  • Lets hear your arrangement?

    Upload it to YouTube.

    Cant wait to hear you!

This guy's arrangement and playing is fantastic. I know that because no matter how many times I listen to it, it's like hearing it for the first time.

  • Nice job...

  • you can manage that piano like no one's business!!!!

  • COOOL !

    *******

  • This is like a cheery version of Tenderly. I really want to learn to play this.

  • If i start at 13 is that too late te be this good?

  • I'm 14 and no, it is not too late. As long as you start now and stop moping around. :))

  • That does it! INSTANT SUBSCRIBE!!

  • @DarrellLJames

    Abso-blooming-lutely! Indeed. Me too.....

  • wow

  • I want buy your transcriptions.

  • May i ask from wich album you've transposed this version of "tenderly"

I have a pair of Bose active speakers connected to my pc and it sounds fabulous!

I think Oscar Peterson (bless his soul) passed away to make room for you sir.

  • And a very Christmas to you too!

    And keep up the playing!

  • eccellente !!

    formidabile ""

    grande artista

  • how do you transcribe a piece with this much going on...perfect pitch?...Or are there some techniques?

  • There is a really cool software named Transcribe that helps you. The best thing about it is the spectral view which shows the frequency spectrum in a selected period of time on top of a keyboard. However you need to be able to make the difference between actual notes and their overtones, and others noises. You can try it for free and there is a really good guide on how to transcribe on their website.

Be warned though: you really need lots of patience.

If you want I can show you a few techniques.

  • Ok that helps a lot, I cant wait to get started, and im very open to learning some techniques

  • Absolutely amazing! I love how it changes from jazz to a blues sound. Awesome play!

  • @mikki85 , yup , sure is !

  • this is so perfect man

  • How terribe is it to think that music like this may get lost in the future

I hope this lives on forever :-)

  • How many ppl do you see today working this kind of music? Not even half as much as the ppl in the older days. This kind of music may eventually dissapear :| to pop and electronics, sadly

  • or, like we play Mozart now future ppl will play O.P. with the same idolatration (dunno if the last word is right)

  • I know its horrible to think but hopefully I will be able to learn this and pass this onto future generations

And the terrible thing is being a pop star doesnt even require that much talent they put so many effects on thier voices its hardly them singing at all

  • i hope to someday be able to play this too. There goes the time where music was mainly art (with a little bit of business) and not now that it's mostly business with no art whatsoever

  • so true....

  • must be nice to reach 10ths comfortably

  • Ok Silent

  • Not good! Very good!!!

  • good¡

  • Dude, after the first 5 seconds, I knew it. You are awesome.

  • very well done mr itmsjim. very well done. sounds exactly like the original. I have the original on this computer and I'm listening to it against yours. you have it pretty well. wow. impressive.

  • can I buy this transcription from you?

  • Oh I love the rythm change around 1:20... what a player!

  • This is amazing! You're a professional so i'm sure ur down for constructive criticism: make it swing more!!!!!

  • This is a transcription, his goal is to replicate Oscar Peterson's 1953 rendition at Carnegie Hall... so if he added more swing he wouldn't be fulfilling his goal

  • ...

  • Unless the difference between his performance and Oscar's was the level of swing. in which case it could be appropriate to add more swing. And that is only if he's trying to completely replicate the actual performance, which is uncommon among musicians, especially professionals. The goal isn't to do absolutely everything the same, but to perform the same version of the some song, and then to put your own stank on it.

but I do agree that you could swing more...put some more emotion behind it.

  • haha, everyone's a critic these days.. fair enough

  • aaahh

    wonderful

  • This is awfully GREAT. Not only the technique but the piano realy sounds tas if played by Oscar.

  • Holy Shit that was amazing!

  • Astonishingly good! The spirit of OP lives on!

  • NICE

  • Very interesting to see your technique - especially how OP used tenths in LH. Thanks for posting!

  • Very impressive. You have great technique. I can tell you have studied Oscar Peterson's style. Keep up the hard work. Sounds great. and if any chance you could send me a copy of this piece i would greatly appreciate it. thanks

  • really impressing! bravo. nothing more to say here :)

    just kidding.

    great, great interpretation!

  • Holy carapace that is so damn sexy

  • You really the OP sound down. Excellent!

    Thanks for sharing.

  • omg...wonderful!!!

i have an old recording of this...and you play it nearly exactly like it.

If you have any sheet music...PLEASE can i have a copy ?

  • where can I find O. Peterson playing tenderly solo? Is there a video of it? All the renditions I've seen have vocals accompanying it.

  • I love it! The beautiful harmonies, the runs, the great rhythm from 1:15, it really makes me content :D

I've never begged anyone before but if you have any sheet music I'm BEGGING YOUUU! Could I please have/buy a copy?
