Hi Jim ... beautiful playing ... I would dearly love to buy this transcription, but the link on your website doesn't appear to be working ... please make it work and take my money :)
I take my hat off to anyone who first can transcribe the origianl performance, then play it with such conviction - bravissimo'''''''''' (any chance of procuring the transcription?)
Well done! I'm a HUGE Oscar Peterson fan and I must say... your touch and sound... you're practically there. Nice left-hand sound and accompaniment (and obviously, lucky you for those A-G-C# stretches :) It's almost impossible for me to get that G in the middle... ).
I loved the execution of that magnificent blues decent at 1:42 !! Well done!
@geltvaha I don't know for him, but Oscar peterson started piano at seven (he played trompet since five) and played about 6 hours a day for his whole life.
Mr. Martinez, I just bought your rendition of "Surely The Presence Of The Lord" because I can't get it out of my head! I heard it on an internet radio station and I Had to get it because it completely changed my mood for the better the first time I'd heard it! I didn't even realize that this video was the same person who recorded that beautiful piece! Your an amazing pianist and I'll never understand how 17 people could chose dislike but you can't please everyone. Keep up the Great work!
@RayfieldA Thanks so much...I truly appreciate that!! I am so happy that the music touched you like that...Praise God. A note like yours is music to my ears (eyes?) :-)
Soooo good. I've listened to the original 100s of times. One of the best transcriptions I've heard of ANY music: accuracy, the pulse of the missing guitar and bass, feel, technique. That does it for me as well. Instant subscribe.
Sorry but I never said you played like a "White boy?".. Ok i Regret what i Said ... do you forgive me? I really like how you play, dont get me Wrong, its just that I Love Dynamics and I dont hear any in here.
I was looking forward to his renowned "blocked chords "section of the song, were u able to transcribe that section? any way, I loved, being able to see, exactly Oscar was playing! Oscar Peterson, a man of many styles and tricks!
I don't know if this has been asked already. I can't make out what brand of piano your are playing. Beautiful tone, as well as awesome playing!!!! Could you tell me what it is?
This is excellent. Anyone have any pointers on how a none-jazz player and learn this song? I want to learn how to run up and down the keyboard that fast.
Well played :) I guess well transcribed, but I didn´t check with the original. A lot of stretchy- chords in left hand. C-E is ok, but A-C# is impossible to me unless I make an operation in my left hand :) Hehe.. sounds like I´m crazy. Just a jazz- pianist/teacher/composer :)
Your very VERY good! Now this is no offense, you played that about as close to Oscar Peterson as I have ever heard, but something about OP, I have never heard ANYBODY able to duplicate his style & sound. It's like a person can play the same song exactly the same way as him, note for note, exact tempo, even same piano, but "something"?, is always "missing". It's like a 6th sense?, or maybe a piece of his soul, (the power in his hands too) makes it impossible to duplicate his signature sound.
There is a really cool software named Transcribe that helps you. The best thing about it is the spectral view which shows the frequency spectrum in a selected period of time on top of a keyboard. However you need to be able to make the difference between actual notes and their overtones, and others noises. You can try it for free and there is a really good guide on how to transcribe on their website.
Be warned though: you really need lots of patience.
How many ppl do you see today working this kind of music? Not even half as much as the ppl in the older days. This kind of music may eventually dissapear :| to pop and electronics, sadly
I know its horrible to think but hopefully I will be able to learn this and pass this onto future generations
And the terrible thing is being a pop star doesnt even require that much talent they put so many effects on thier voices its hardly them singing at all
i hope to someday be able to play this too. There goes the time where music was mainly art (with a little bit of business) and not now that it's mostly business with no art whatsoever
very well done mr itmsjim. very well done. sounds exactly like the original. I have the original on this computer and I'm listening to it against yours. you have it pretty well. wow. impressive.
This is a transcription, his goal is to replicate Oscar Peterson's 1953 rendition at Carnegie Hall... so if he added more swing he wouldn't be fulfilling his goal
Unless the difference between his performance and Oscar's was the level of swing. in which case it could be appropriate to add more swing. And that is only if he's trying to completely replicate the actual performance, which is uncommon among musicians, especially professionals. The goal isn't to do absolutely everything the same, but to perform the same version of the some song, and then to put your own stank on it.
but I do agree that you could swing more...put some more emotion behind it.
Very impressive. You have great technique. I can tell you have studied Oscar Peterson's style. Keep up the hard work. Sounds great. and if any chance you could send me a copy of this piece i would greatly appreciate it. thanks
