Hurricane Irene After the Storm 8.31.11 Rodanthe

I was out on the Outer Banks back in the late 80s I believe, when a particularly nasty Nor"easter hit. Top wind gust was 108 mph and part of highway 12 got washed over. A good chunk of the Rodanthe pier fell in and there was alot of damage to houses. Would you remember what year that was exactly and would you have any more info on it that I could possibly read? I can find much on the history of the Rodanthe pier either.
