Nice Vid very helpful as I dont have a printed manual for my Dl4 only the download version which is very limited! Do you have any info on a better manual? Thanx Again!
@clementkee Apparently an excerpt from "Working for a nuclear free city" but I can't verify or deny that claim without finding that song first. :) Anyhow, it was just an original idea to emphasize the dotted 8th note delay qualities... I had no real planned song for this portion of the video. Perhaps I should have!
this is very informative. thank you for sharing your knowledge. In my DL4, I'm just using the dynamic, reverse and tube echo.... that's it. no more, no less...
@williambradford12 It has gradually become weaker... I'm a bassist and piano player by trade so maybe my sense of rhythm is a bit more dynamic than most. I don't claim to be that good with my "internal metronome" but thank you very much!
that's a lot of work to get a dotted 8th, haha. On your delay, there should be a dotted 8th setting.. at least there is on the DD-5s, where you just tap quarters, and you will get a dotted 8th. I've never had to tap that awkwardly. but if it gets the job done, then it's alright, haha.
@1616starbuck It does indeed get the job done. I'm pretty out of practice with it so the more often you do live tapping for it the better, and I'm sure there's a whole host of other ways to tap it in with an easier tap style like you said. I am envious of the Nova Delays and the setting on the DD-5s for dotted 8th, but this makes it at least somewhat more impressive looking when you're able to tap in dotted 8ths using your own brain power. A lot of ppl find dotted 8th delay cheesy... oh well
i heard the Line6 DL4 break down easy... is this true? reason i ask is because i'm trying to decide what delay pedal to buy. i think the Lin6 DL4 sounds great but i'm a little confused because of the bad reviews on it's a reliability.
@slashnpraise BOSS DD-5 is probably the best delay pedal, just to let you know. Almost every guitarist who has a feddish for delay has at least one on their board. i would look into it.
@wellsleyplace@wellsleyplace haha, thats always an obstacle. I'm sure you could find one on ebay for a hundred bucks if you look for long enough.
All i'm playing with is a pod xt live , which i bought used for 250.00. It has a good dotted 8th. when i get more money i'm sure i will get some analog pedals, but what i have gets the job done, and i don't see a big need to spend loads of $ just to play for my worship team :P. I will post a video response showing you how i tap .8ths later tonight
@slashnpraise If you punish it, the thing will break. Keep it quarantined from rough usage, keep it industrial-strength-velcro'd into your pedal board, don't stomp the heck out of it... anything with moving parts and knobs can break, if you treat it with respect it will last just as long as any other pedal. I got the warranty b/c I am always afraid my gear might fail and I need to have this pedal!
@ianmcgeachy Rhythmic option has a TON of good use, not just for dotted 8th even, but triplet repeats and oddball combinations you'd be surprised. Get an expression pedal and you can save two different settings per A/B/C position. Granted in the same effects type category but it gives you more room to tweak and more room to change various elements like mix and repeats for example
@dayone54 I don't have an fb4, I only own the DL4 for all my delay needs. I'm sorry, keep looking for other people's tutorials i'm sure even line6 has their own tutorial... it looks like a sweet pedalboard!
Dl4 is a horrible pedal for a live setting . u cant rely on it for crap with dot 8thh etc. its all about the BOSS Gigga delay dd-20.l Plus Its Cheaper and 10X Better
@RussianCivilian What does that mean? This set me back $300 and works like a charm, if it works for me thats all that matters, and see below obviously its worked for a couple ppl... >:]
hmm. i don't use a DL4, but to make life even easyer for you, why don't u just set the rhytmic delay on dottet 8th?? on that manual page you showed, at the end of that 8th note line is a dot, if ou set you pot to point there you can tap quarter notes and get a dotted 8th delay...
at least thats what i saw other people do with their Dl4's
actually i've tried doing that, but its more of a dotted triplet, it doesn't get that U2 / "the Edge" pulsing repeat. Nova delay and older Boss delay's have a true "slap-back / dotted 8th" setting. Once you get used to doing the taps on 1 and 4 it comes quite naturally.
tapping on all 4 beats would give you 16th note delay repeats... so if you tapped four quarter notes out they would repeat as 16th notes (i.e. super fast, 3x faster than what you tapped)... whatever you tap out is repeated as 16th notes, so by tapping out on beats 1 and 4 and playing quarter notes your repeats will match your first quarter note then will repeat a 16th note before the next quarter note giving you that dotted 8th rhythmic delay... its much harder to put in words what it does. haha
great tutorial dude, it really helped me to make a good delay instead of... noise, do you think this delay is better than the memory man with hazarai? both have pretty much the same options but I understand that this one has an analog delay option, right? thanks for the video, take care
the line 6 has 16 delay modelers that are like infinitely tweakable. I know a lot of my friends who are much better at electric guitar than I am find the Nova Delay pedal to be even easier to use, you can actually get a digital readout of the beats per minute and it has a setting dedicated to slap-repeats or dotted 8th. I'd recommend that pedal if you're looking for endless tweakability. I have not had much experience with the memory man.
my good friend has the Nova, it has a slap-echo delay mode, which is basically what i'm doing in this video, so it might be easier to tap that in on the fly. I like the DL4, with the expression pedal you can have 6 save settings and its just nice and big and bulky and green
I recommend the nova delay for precision, and the DL4 for more quick live stuff. I find dotted 8th relatively easy to tap in now, if you want it to be spot-on precise the nova delay has a setting for slap-repeat / dotted 8ths and also has a ton of other presets... its also one that i would like to get my hands and feet on sometime soon!
I just bought the Nova Delay yesterday and would like it to sound like the DL4 dotted 8th video you have here. can you give me the settings on the Nova so I can get that great U2/ Hillsong sound? Thanks so much: )
Awsome! Where did u get that setup guide showed on ur video?!?!
