  • After playing this for marching band, I hate the chorale at 2:56 so much. You have no idea.

  • Jelouse much?

  • Where are the colours of this music in this performance? It's all FORTE... I don't like it!

  • @Gio1928DT Actually FORTISSIMO! get it right!!!

  • Who is the arranger?

  • @1414conor Gustav Holst himself. :)

  • @littleduckyblue 8 min is nothing! I play Rachmaninoff concertos that are over 30 min long. Still a good piece tho. Where can I get it? Lol

  • @1414conor You can purchase it several places online. That's how I got it ;)

  • @1414conor aren't you special? wow... geesh that is like.... SO INCREDIBLE... like.... if i cared, it would be so important to me.... but i don't care :P

  • where can i get the sheet music to this?

  • is it just me, or does the part from 2:56 to 4:50 perfect for lovemaking? this is a great performance. i'm ashamed 2 ask this as a musician, but r those pianos attatched? if so, then that is absolutely epic

  • @MissKeeBaby7 haha, no, the pianos aren't attached, they're just placed together like puzzle pieces. I have seen pianos that are built as dual-pianos, though

  • @AlexSmithMusic oh! well, tht was embarrassing 2 ask. it was a beautiful performance, though. do u kno where i can get the sheet music 4 free online?

  • @MissKeeBaby7 not for free, but you can get it fairly cheap ;)

  • @AlexSmithMusic i actually just want the chorale portion. but, share the luv, man. where can i get it?

  • How did you manage to memorize a 8 minute long peice of music? o.0

  • @Littleduckyblue i don't know, memorization just comes naturally. It's one of the reasons I'm a bad reader. I memorize quickly, so I don't get much practice reading.

  • OMG!! It's incredible, I love the chorale!!

this is the best performance that I have heard!!!

  • you may not play with sheet music, but do you have any? =D *crosses fingers*

  • @nicoleriskt lol, yes, i purchased it online somewhere. it was arranged by Holst himself (I suggest finding that version)

  • haha. funny ending ^.^

  • this is absolutely incredible i'm in awe

  • I LOVE IT!!!!! :)

  • This is exactly what I was looking for, but 10 times better. Epic.

  • this is great dude. keep it up.

  • @mwrj thanks! I wish Schmidt and I could play together again. Hopefully we'll meet again in the future.

  • I like that you have no sheet music in front of you :P

  • @ent2186 i don't read well. I read it once or twice and memorize it so i don't have to have the music in front of me. It sucks, because even if I DO have the sheet music in front of me, it absolutely doesn't help when I get lost. :P

  • @AlexSmithMusic I haven't read sheet music since highschool band haha. i'm like you and play by ear. I didn't even bother trying to go to collage for music cuz... it wouldn't have ended well.

  • This is absolutely amazing! In my school band we're playing the Jupiter Chorale, so curious I looked up The Planets, and honestly this is one of the best performances of Jupiter I've found ^_^

  • @Riu1122 thanks! there aren't very many piano performances of the planets of YouTube (though I haven't searched since I uploaded this one)

  • Wow, this sounds great! I love Holst's music. :D

  • この動画に出会えて本当に良かった! ありがとう!!

  • @Abrizar041 ありがとう! 私は楽しむので幸せである!

    ピアノを弾くか。

  • Wow. I just love this. Maybe I can get the airport to play this in the bathrooms rather than obscure slightly-famous country and pop songs from the 90's.

  • Amazing! I love this song! X3 But Neptune is my favorite movement. :)

  • @Hitsugayafan12 OH ME TOO!! Neptune is so relaxing, and i love the choirs, inspiring. Although, of all the movements, Jupiter translated to piano the best. All others didn't quite work are piano duets. Mars, one of my favorite movements, was just too repetitive on pianos, and pianos can't handle Neptune's sustained chords... oh, man, i love the planets! lol

  • @AlexSmithMusic It really is! X3 Yes, I thought about translating one of the movements to piano, but they really don't work! The only one that would be good for piano would be Uranus or Mercury. (and even then.. xD) I adore Mars, but I agree that that one doesn't work out too well either. Either way, they're all amazing pieces. :) I can listen to them for hours.

  • @Hitsugayafan12 I like to listen to Mars with my noise canceling headphones, and sing really loud with it, sometimes choosing to sing melody, other times harmony, and even obscure instruments in the accompaniment.. by the end of the piece, I am worn out completely... especially with the final DUH DUH DUH DUUUUUUH!!! ... DUH DUH DUUUUUUUH!! ... DUH DUH DUUUUUH DUH DUH DUH DUUUH!!!

    ...

    DUUUUUUUH DUUUUUUUUUUH...

    ...

    DUUUUUUUUUH DUUUUUUUUH DUUUUUUUUUH!!

    ...

    ..

    DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH!!!!

  • @AlexSmithMusic I so heard that in my head as I read it! XD Haha! Yep, gotta love Mars. :)

  • AAAAAWEEEESOME!!!

  • This is Holsts transcription - written for Vally Lasker and Nora Day - his colleaugues at St Pauls School. I think it was re-discovered by John York 15 or so years ago. Accusations of cheating at 1:14? Having listened to The Yorks recording and the bar is so subtle I can't tell if its played as a scale or gliss'. I suspect the orchestral part is a scale and the transcription is a gliss'. I wonder how Vally and Nora would have played it? I don't give a damn - this recording is just great.

  • Wow amazing!

  • god

    the best

  • Great job, guys--fun to play isn't it?

  • it is! I watched yours too. I think ours are the only ones on YouTube! lol

  • I must say, that was one of the best I've seen.

Despite the little bit of cheating you did at 1:14 ;)

  • Just a quick question how were they cheating???????

  • The guy in the hat on the left used a glissando for a part in the score that calls for a scale.

  • I'm the guy on the left, and my score uses a glissando. Do you have Holst's original transcription?

  • Yes I do. And if I'm not mistaken, the first time that pattern comes up, there is an F sharp, the second time calls for a glissando.

  • you're right, it does! I'm a cheater!! lol

I supposed I sacrificed the F sharp for the clean glissando. Good ear

  • you are amazingly good at hearing, I hadnt noticed.

  • What a wonderful performance~!

Piano duo plays the whole orchestra suite with tremendous ensemble~!!

  • just..................simply amazing thats all i can say it was incredible!

  • Increíble interpretación. Felicitaciones.

  • I'm impressed! Not much more I can say other than, FANTASTIC!

  • Beautiful, simply beautiful.

  • 1:40 i see chocobos running around the stage. good work broseph!

  • Brilliant recital!

  • This was cool!

  • Close to perfection, keep practicing, good job Alex and Charles.

from a local resident who appreciates classical music.

  • This was one of the best evenings I've had in a LONG time! You are AMAZING!

  • Awesome! That sounded perfect to me! I mean, I've never heard the song before, so I wouldn't really know. But still, WTG!

  • I wanna see a lightsabor damnit! Get on it!

  • Fan-fucking-tastic! Love it!! LOL...get'em
