  • last time i saw this guy was at a local event when he was feuding with Luscious Kenny Valiant Jimmy was mad thin but he could still go

  • Awesome. Much love for The Boogie Man. Hail Jimmy Valiant.

  • I used to watch him and his brother Vs Bruiser & Crusher at Indianapolis back in the 70's. What a great time !

  • Greatest song ever! Thanks!

  • man, Jimmy was just (and still is) ten kinds of awesome. his wrestling school is worth the drive for folks living in Northern Virginia and the D.C. area. he's a real nice guy.

  • You can really tell that he loved what he was doing out there, Daddy... Anybody who uses the term "daddy" when cutting a promo has gotta be cooler than shit.

  • he's a little funky TOO, not "Jew". geez.

  • Is he singing he's a "Little Funky Jew"?? Thats AWESOME.

  • I was just gonna post the same thing...are we hearing that right?? Aren't jews forbidden from being tattooed???

  • So?

  • Only if he were an Orthodox Jew, which he's clearly not. Conservative and Reform Jews would probably leave it a matter of personal choice, and Secular Jews wouldn't bat an eye.

Really, even these groups are still too generic. Think of it like the different Protestant faiths (Baptist, Methodist, etc.) and all their subdivisions, if that helps.

I think we're missing what's important here though, and that's that Jimmy Valiant is outstandingly entertaining.

  • Without question, he was a tremendous entertainer. Just caught me offguard to hear him proclaim his religion in song...don't recall ever hearing him call himself a "little funky jew" during an interview. Definitely not Orthodox...although I've seen a couple Orthodox who smoke (YUCK!).

But yes, pretty much all religions have followers who take the parts they want to believe in & ditch the rest, sometimes just keeping it personal & other times creating a whole new off-shoot religion.

  • @DaveInOCNJ I actially think he's saying "a little funky too." But then again, I could be wrong.

  • I know that clip was made at the Memphis International Airport! Rollin into Mempho TWA!

  • Hey! That's ME! Right over his right shoulder at :40! I've been trying to find that video! That was one of the most fun days EVER! Do you know where I can find the video that clip came from? :)

  • I wish I could help, but I don't know. I don't even remember how I found this video anymore, to be honest. You might be able to find something with Google searches for Jimmy Valiant or for Memphis wrestling, but I'm just guessing. Good luck.

  • @2unearth Jimmy has a DVD he sells with the full videos shot at the Memphis airport email him at boogie@usit.net

  • although i like the desoto cc, I hated they moved memphis wrestling from the colisseum.

  • I saw Handsome Jimmy Valiant yesterday in Barboursville, WV with New Ohio Wrestling. It was an honor to be in the presence of a true legend. Thanks for sharing this video!

  • woooooooo

  • I remember hustling my little pennys together to just go see midsouth wrestling on monday nights(midsouth colisuem memphis 10)good memories.

  • One of the true greats.

  • my dad went and seen him when he was a kid and iv seen him before and man he looks old!!!! now i mean no offense or nothing

  • jimmy you will always be the man jack!greetings from greenwood s.c.

  • There are actually two versions of this tune. I am the bassist on the recordings. Not sure about what label the Handsome Jimmy version is on but the one that actually received regional top thirty air time is on Freetone Records (Estell Axton/Stax) with Jimmy Hart singing. The band is called The Gentrys. The old Larry Raspberry band that promoter Jimmy Hart ended up holding the name on. Thanks for the memories of listening to that again.

  • A little funky Jew?

  • Handsome Jimmy is what pro wrestling is and was always about. I'm glad I got to see him at the mid south coliseum throughout the late 70's to the mid 80's...Noone can compare.

    My all time favorite!

  • Yep! I loved his feud with Paul Jones way back when I was a kid. Every week I couldn't wait for Valiant to come out there with that baseball bat, or stick, or whatever it was, with Paul Jones' name written on it! LOL That was good stuff! I don't remember him being called "Handsome" Jimmy Valiant, I just remember him being Jimmy "Boogie Woogie Man" Valiant.. (Here comes the boy from New York City) I guess he used different gimmicks in different territories. One of the greats!

  • Ah, his ax handle, lovingly referred to his "Old Lady." He was Boogie Woogie over in the Carolinas and Georgia (which was on TBS, where he feuded with Paul Jones, of course), and then Handsome Jimmy back in Memphis.

  • Memphis wresling icon...they dont make like this anymore!!!

  • that was awesome!

  • FUCKEM UP HANSOM

  • man he was fucking awsome beyond the words he had soul brother and still does . thank you jimmy your the best a fan could have i really mean that .

  • I remember meeting in the guy at a indy sow as a kid and remember him hugging me & bringing me in the ring. I had a blast trying run of the ropes only to learn that the ropes were stiff and hurt like hell.

  • a true showman of the sport thank yoy jimmy and by the way your song is awsome

  • Jimmy Valient's Moveset:

Punch, Punch, Punch, Punch, Punch, Punch, Punch, Punch, Punch, Punch, Punch, Punch,

Punch, Punch, Punch, Punch, elbow drop, pin.

  • solda lotta tickets

  • Give me this moveset over a chump like Cena any day of the week.

  • whoa mercy Daddy!

  • I still own the 45! Thanks for posting!

  • Who was that on the couch with Cory Maclin and Jerry Lawler?

  • Lawler's girlfriend.

  • i bought this on a 45 at the richmond coliseum when i was like 9 lol,,,he was a crazy fker,,,i used to love watching him kick the great kabukis ass

  • WOW, whos the babe in red? Valiant the lucky dog, always!

  • JV is still the man. He was uber popular in Memphis & the old NWA Crockett Promotions.

  • They should have more guys like Jimmy Valiant in wrestling today.

  • I thought he said "raped by gypsies" whew. It makes it MUCH better now.

  • This whole thing is basically incredible. Thank you for posting it.

  • Man, I wish I'd been raised by gypsies!

  • Oh hell that was awesome!

  • Not to take anything away from JV but, Jerry Lawler and Bill Dundee were the 2 that made Memphis, Nashville, Louisville, and Evansville. The 1 and 2 spot is forever taken. JV is the #3 spot in my eyes though.

  • even though i am deaf, always enjoy Boogie Woogie Mans actions, and when he tagged with Luicous Johnny.. always love watch the actions

  • In the 70's, Jimmy was a great heel. In the 80's, a better face!

  • Yes,yes, yes ! I was hoping somebody would put this on. Handsome Jimmy had a great fued with Lawler back in the day, and was just about as popular with the Memphis fans. Probably the closest to Lawler(nobody got over The King) in terms of popularity, I would put him ahead of Austin Idol. King Lawler was always #1 in Mempho but JV was a very close #2 for a while.

  • i grew up watching them on channel 5 with dave brown doing the annoucing, lol
