  • my 98 integra does the same thing go to my videos and itll show you what mine is doing after it warms up it drops to 1000 rpm but if u rev it itll go back up to about 2000 rpm then go back down

  • Mines doing the same thing. It's more than likely the idle air control valve. Try cleaning it out. If that doesnt work, it needs replaced.

  • weird mine did this a little while after i adjusted the base idle (i have a 1990 btw) and i just adjusted it again and it stopped, i think on mine the screw comes loose from vibrations and doesnt know whats going on but after adjusting it goes back to normal. good to see im not the only one who had this issue but lol

  • My '89 integra has the same problem. The RPM oscillation when warm. Please help me. what part has to be replaced? what means EACV? THANKS A LOT.

  • adjust your chole

  • Just locate the Fast Idle Control Valve - check the service manual for the location (FICV) unscrew the cap and then with a coin screw the plastic part all the way down........

  • haha cool good to know! i think i need to fix mine too

  • look dude if u havent figured it out yet and still need help its the idle control sensor check the back of you trottle body theres a plug unhook it ,it wont hurt the car cuz i hav a 95 tacoma and a 95 prelude and both went bad so i unhook it and havent had a problem since hope it helps

  • My friend has a 1988 Honda Accord and it does the same thing and he hasnt found the problem yet.

  • iac valve or you have air in your coolant system bleed it out

  • idol cotrol valve. definatily.

  • try cleaning the IACV ( Idle Air Control Valve) it should cure the problem, but not sure.

  • Mine does that when i first start it up. It runs at about 2500rpm for maybe 30 seconds then does that revving up and down from 1500 to 2000 for maybe a minute. When it warms up its ok. I feel like a right asshole if i end up next to someone at the lights when its going on! :P

  • It was prob the Manifold Absolute pressure sensor (MAP)

  • its the mass air flow or the throttle position sensor....my car does the same thing....i added a spacer on it then it started doin that but chances or its that

  • whats a spacer i have a 90 ls integra and i add a muffler from a prelude and now it idleing by itself

  • a spacer is atteched to the throttle body and the intake manifold...just increases the air flow somewhat by adding length to the throttle body hince more air flow on to it

  • thanks for replying

catnipfever22 so do you what this promlem is cause i have the idetical proble from 1500 to 2000 it up and down up and down it last a while when its finsh it the needle stays low not on the 1 but the line below am thinking of get a new engine how much for an ls 1990

  • The Integra's ALIVE!

Can't you hear it breathing in and out?!

  • Mine did that. it ran out of coolant and as soon as i put some in it stopped. dunno if its the same as you but you could try that. was pretty stupid of me not to keep the coolant up but i was pretty new to cars back then.

  • u either put mad cams in it or you took off the emissions stuff. or mine did that because i have a 5 speed stick and tried puttin an intake on from an automatic

  • lol, its got toda cams in it!!! haha nawwt, jsut playin.. to be honest, i got no idea wat that is. good luck with it though, ive always wanned to own a first gen integra...

  • i think the problem is that u own a 88 integra! get a DC2

  • take off the fitv, open it and clean it then put it back on. it should fix the problem/

  • my 90 teg has the exact problem! u get it fixed you?

  • lol the car is 21 years old... who cares. my 88 RS idles at like 600-650 when warmed up and sounds like an old chevy with a cam. gets 35 mpg and is fun as hell, so I could care less!

  • dont fuck around with the cams because u might think its the timing but its not.. just dont mess with the cams!!

  • 100% tps clean it or replace it

  • change ur Idle Air Control Valve. Also, did u chip ur ECU? ECU can cause it to jump like that too. Clean the IACV with Carb/Choke cleaner..

  • 0o0 yeah that idle man.. my 96 integra has that same problem, but it only does it once in a while...have u fixed it?

  • hop out of the car with it running...if it makes a "hissing" sound...its more then likely just a vacuum leak...not a big deal...but annoying

  • the reason why its idling like that is because you have air in the raditor system you would need to warm the car up and lossen the plug near or under your intake mainfold and when you loosen it it will be spitting you'll have to make it not spit in away

  • Comment removed

  • looks like your IAC died. if you unplug it, and the idles drop, its working just fine...if not....wellll that should fix it

  • my buddies 91 accord does the same thing

  • it's actually called fast idle valve(FIV) and when the plastic nut inside the FIV comes unscrewed you get the bouncy idle problem. you need to open it and re-assemble it and that fixes it.

    locations:

88-91 prelude-back of the intake manifold

    92-01 prelude-under the throttel body

    94-01 integra-under the throttle body

they all have 2 little coolant hoses attached to them. other hondas/acura are similiar in location.

  • Wow, that's a revelation after many years. my 88' Prelude Si (which I don't have anymore) did that back then when it was cold outside.

  • my 88 integra did the same in cold weather sometimes.

  • could be your tps sensor as well. most likely the iacv

  • Clean out your IACV on the back of your intake manifold, its 2 12mm bolts. If you look into the 2nd hole there is a small worm gear, spray into that with carb/break cleaner, then blow it out and allow it to dry. You may have to do this several times, but you will eventually see the little gear get clean. It will probably fix your problem, other wise you have a vaccum leak.

  • map sebsor thats wat ive always heard maybe mine does that when its warming up theb goes away

  • the d15 of my crx was doing that .... water pump or air leak !!! for my d15 it was water pump !

  • yeah american car dont do that ! american car BROKE before do that ! *&%? you CAVALIER loverzzzzz

  • Didn't know that. But it was built, not engineered in the US.

  • lol u have a air leak...

  • Wow that would drive me nuts. American cars don't do that. LOL

  • yeah, they just break down on the side of the road :/

  • my integra used to do that with out giving it any throttle at all

  • my car just started doin this whats wrong

  • looks like im not the only one..... vacuum leak.

  • loll, my old 93 Honda Accord does the samething when idle, wonder wtf it is.

  • Below the throttle body, There is a piece that has rad. hoses going into it. Take it off when the car is cold. On the back take off the two screws, dont LOSE! and tighten the white plug till it gets snug. Replace and dont over tighten the bolts that hold it to the car, 12mm I thinks. It is wax from what ive heard, when it warms it lowers the warming idle. But tightening will over ride and stop the bad idle. This comes from 3 years exp. on a 2nd gen. Many web site forums discuss this. GLHF

  • hey, question. I have a 95 ls, and its misfiring only after the engine has warmed up and i give her over 1/4 throttle. Ive allready changed the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, coil, and fuel filter. any ideas on what could be causing a misfire?

  • this happened on my 2ndgen integra cause of a radiator hose leak, i replaced it, and the idle and overheating, stopped.

  • man my gsr do the same fuck n it pisses me off like very hard

  • LMFAO what commander said to snoopy omg haha, nice one snoopy :P

  • normal if its cold but if not could be idle control valve

  • ...most probably caused by rampods....typical honda's.... trust me turn the idle screw down, and drive around, if its too low, adjsut a touch higher, etc....

  • HOW THE FUCK CAN IT BE A TRANNY AND ENGINE SNOOPY...YOU DUMB FUCKING IDIOT... JUST THINKABOUT WHAT YOU WROTE YOU LOST CUNT! try turning down the idling screw that is positioned on the throttle body.... that will fix the problem....you probably have too much air flowing through the throttle body.....

  • ouch!!! you need a new transmission and engine...(-.-)

  • I think this is happening cuz there is water in the intake hose or the air box

  • I had a neighbor with a Probe that did that. Such a POS it was!

  • Replacing the EACV fixed the problem. I replaced it over 4 months ago, and the problem has not reoccurred. Thanks for all the attempts to help, but I actually already understood the cause of the problem, and very clearly explained it in a comment 6 months ago.

  • its not to do with the throttle there smart one!

  • thats what happened to my friends 96 integra, " supersized " every thing, except the cans or cams, something like that, any way, it just stalls. so yea, all tho, the sound gets really nice aroun 4 thosand rpm, sound great!! sucks for you tho, good luck!

  • I just replaced the thermostat in mine and the problem went away. Not sure if it was related though.

  • common problem check fast idle thermo valve , ecu , idle air control valve , the most possible 1 is fast idle thermo valve tho ... haynes manual ! .. good luck

  • check out our website for first gen integra's

    g1teg-org

  • its your timing its way off or check you tps it might not be working

  • shit... my friend had the same problem with his car. Is this common problem with Honda's Engine?

  • It does seem to be a fairly common problem. The solution to the problem is generally either 1) replace the EICV (electronic idle control valve) or 2) repair a vacuum leak (vacuum leaks can occur in many places, including maladjusted throttle cable, broken vacuum hose, various gaskets).

  • electronic idle control valve = idle air control valve(iac)??????????????

  • The problem is that too much air is being allowed into the engine. On most cars, it would just cause the idle to stay high. However, with the gen1 Integra engines, if the throttle is closed and the engine is warmed up, the injectors stop opening if the RPM is above 1200 rpm. This is because the ECU thinks you are decelerating and shuts off the injectors to save fuel. When the RPMs drop back down, the injectors kick in again and the idle rises again, and the oscillations continue. Neat, eh?
