@jikolee The gas was used but its not lethal if the hostage/person is "set" properly. the hostages were lied down by doctors which caused them to suffocate..You cant wear a ghillie suit inside a building or in pure urban territory...You cant save everyone in a mass hostage crisis...If you heard the stories of the hostages in Beslan you will know how the spetsnaz value their objectives very much..they didnt have much time to prepare since the chechens were starting to abuse and kill hostages
I read a forum on how the examination for the crimson beret is done...They run very long kilometers, uphill ,downhill,through obstacles, environments and sometimes with gunfire and explosives around them..the person trying out should also remember moves, tactics at some courses...and your rifle should fire perfectly at one point....In the end you have to fight with 4 people one is a krapoviy beret holder...very hard training indeed

Russia has two spetsnaz groups - Alpha (Alfa) and Vympel. Thats it! Vitjaz, Rus' etc are special forces, which are compared to USMC or rangers, but not to green berets or seals.

While Lend-Lease was helpful to say that it determined the outcome on the Eastern Front is incorrect. We would have still won, our looses would simply be greater. We turned the Germans back at Moscow before Lend-Lease had any sizable impact on our fighting ability. We beat the Germans at Stalingrad before allied bombing had any impact on German military industrial complex. It was our victory.
As for fighting the Soviets in 1945, you would have to be a madman to do that, by 1945 we were the greatest military on the face of the earth and would have reduced allied presence in Europe to nothing in matter of a few short years. USSR wasn't just "big help", the allies were "helping" USSR was fighting, victory over the Nazies was our victory, the actions of the Western allies were just a sideshow.

In Africa and Italy you fought against only several hundred thousand Germans, things changed a bit in 1944 than you invaded Normandy but the thing is that by than Soviet Union has already determined the outcome of this war, it was only a matter of time, German army was retreating in the East, they got beaten at Stalingrad and Kursk.
D-Day didn't change a thing. We killed 4 to 7 million Germans, compared to your 1.3 million. I can recommend you a couple of books by American authors if you'd like, history is something you need to know.
We fought the Germans for 4 years, on a 1000 kilometer wide front, there was a lot more to our victory than just going into Germany. We destroyed the armies of German puppets in Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, etc. we killed altogether about 200 thousand Italians, they had to withdraw from the Eastern front after the battle of Stalingrad.
Well we liberated France, along with the English. The casualties of stalingrad, and the rest of the eastern front was heavy on both the nazis, and soviet. 7 million germans, and i have heard that it was like 10-15 million russians. your grandfather was probably a good soldier. He got lucky. and what are some of those books?

The official German number is currently a little over 5 million (4 died on the Eastern Front, 1 on the Western) but they're still counting their dead bodies, according to some data the number could be as big as 7 million just for the Eastern Front, 4 million graves of German soldiers were found just on the territory of modern day Russia not including the rest of Eastern and central Europe.

Each country has its own "specialty" in the S.Forces. Russia has predominately Forest and snow trained trrops, as that is their land. Harsh land =harsher men to conquer it. The SAS are eaily the best in building entry, the germans have the best mountain troops, and the americans have te best all-round troops. Despite this, a victory vs another force depends on individual talents, tied with teamwork, and a little bit of luck. a talented civilian can take out a specop force with surprise and luck.

Alpha Group are very good!!! But It is delusional to think they are above the Special Air Service, I think your lack knowledge on special operations is very clear to see! The worldwide spec ops community has already declared the most capable is the SAS, Alpha are good, so are Delta, Sayeret 13, Seal Team 6, they are all top level!!!

@jikolee The gas was used but its not lethal if the hostage/person is "set" properly. the hostages were lied down by doctors which caused them to suffocate..You cant wear a ghillie suit inside a building or in pure urban territory...You cant save everyone in a mass hostage crisis...If you heard the stories of the hostages in Beslan you will know how the spetsnaz value their objectives very much..they didnt have much time to prepare since the chechens were starting to abuse and kill hostages

I read a forum on how the examination for the crimson beret is done...They run very long kilometers, uphill ,downhill,through obstacles, environments and sometimes with gunfire and explosives around them..the person trying out should also remember moves, tactics at some courses...and your rifle should fire perfectly at one point....In the end you have to fight with 4 people one is a krapoviy beret holder...very hard training indeed

I hadn't heard of Vityaz until I started playing airsoft lol. People know all branches of Russian spec ops as "spetsnaz" and when they're mentioned it's like "yeah they do some kung-fu shit on public exhibitions and then get the hostages killed in real situations"

Ohh really? Then tell me where exactly it says that Spetsnaz are ineffective? Try. Where am I getting my info from? Reputation is not something that's given out freely in the military forces, their training is said to be the most grueling out there, and a large portion of what i know of them comes from American and Russian military documentaries and shows. A bit beter then airsoft wouldn't you say? I'm boring you? I couldn't give less of a shit if i tried.

Russia has two spetsnaz groups - Alpha (Alfa) and Vympel. Thats it! Vitjaz, Rus' etc are special forces, which are compared to USMC or rangers, but not to green berets or seals.

Comparing Spetsnaz to US forces is silly, we actually put boots on the ground & make a difference.The only threat to me and my brothers is our own government. While Lend-Lease was helpful to say that it determined the outcome on the Eastern Front is incorrect. We would have still won, our looses would simply be greater. We turned the Germans back at Moscow before Lend-Lease had any sizable impact on our fighting ability. We beat the Germans at Stalingrad before allied bombing had any impact on German military industrial complex. It was our victory.

As for fighting the Soviets in 1945, you would have to be a madman to do that, by 1945 we were the greatest military on the face of the earth and would have reduced allied presence in Europe to nothing in matter of a few short years. USSR wasn't just "big help", the allies were "helping" USSR was fighting, victory over the Nazies was our victory, the actions of the Western allies were just a sideshow.

I will repeat, in 1941 the German forces suffered a defeat at the battle of Moscow before Lend-Lease had any measurable impact on Soviet fighting capability. The war was won in Stalingrad then the whole German 6th army was surrounded by Soviet forces and surrendered. The fact that 80% of all Germans killed died on the Eastern Front, the fact that vast majority of German armor was destroyed on the Eastern Front and the fact that it was the Red Army that captured Berlin makes it a Soviet victory.

Eh, okay, not to judge but you don't know your history. US troops have never went into Russia or anywhere near the Eastern Front during WW2. In Africa and Italy you fought against only several hundred thousand Germans, things changed a bit in 1944 than you invaded Normandy but the thing is that by than Soviet Union has already determined the outcome of this war, it was only a matter of time, German army was retreating in the East, they got beaten at Stalingrad and Kursk.

We fought the Germans for 4 years, on a 1000 kilometer wide front, there was a lot more to our victory than just going into Germany. We destroyed the armies of German puppets in Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, etc. we killed altogether about 200 thousand Italians, they had to withdraw from the Eastern front after the battle of Stalingrad.

8.2 million Soviet soldiers died officially. The official German number is currently a little over 5 million (4 died on the Eastern Front, 1 on the Western) but they're still counting their dead bodies, according to some data the number could be as big as 7 million just for the Eastern Front, 4 million graves of German soldiers were found just on the territory of modern day Russia not including the rest of Eastern and central Europe.

The soviet army was stretched thin with the sudden attack. The soviets helped us alot in Berlin. But i don't think they would have had the army to go in to Europe, and africa.

i understand why you like the soviet army. you had a member of your family in it. trust me i know. my father went to vietnam as infantry, and my brother went to iraq, and afghanistan as a ranger. of course i like the U.S army. Again, a subject I know very little about. :) I can't even name a war that the Norwegians were invovled in much less speculate on the conditions of their troops. Unless of course were talking medeival history, then I could give you some answers. Though if I remember right, they do have some good weapon systems.

Each country has its own "specialty" in the S.Forces. Russia has predominately Forest and snow trained trrops, as that is their land. Harsh land =harsher men to conquer it. The SAS are eaily the best in building entry, the germans have the best mountain troops, and the americans have te best all-round troops. Despite this, a victory vs another force depends on individual talents, tied with teamwork, and a little bit of luck. a talented civilian can take out a specop force with surprise and luck.

being a student of Military history I'm pretty sure you don't want me to get going on the French, remember, history is written by the victors.
As for the school attack, I'm pretty sure the blame can't rest solely on the units that went in, they weren't masterminding the plan, just he tool to do the job, however badly that turned out. Every military force has its bad day. America had it in Vietnam.

the politics were what messed up the Vietnam war, and are what is meesing up our current operations. As for the body count....tat was greatly in the vietnamese favor. We lost that war for a very good reason. And if you think they were scared to fight, then you have a very long way to go in understanding others

they just go out to fight other peoples wars. although desert storm was a neccesary conflict Sudame Insane was a real threat to everybody. But america in WWII did some ass kicking but canada was there doing pretty much everything on the American/Canadian front the germans were scared shitless of us we took the hardest beach at D-Day by OURSELVES when you guys needed support from the british and vice versa.

i agree. we needed support from the Canadians in WWII. All of the allied nations were a big help. I hate to admit it, but so was the USSR. But Canada has to get more involved in things. They should join Afhghanistan if they havent already. Honestly i think America, and the Iraqi army should be the only ones in Iraq because it's our war.

we are in the afghan war i know somebody that just came back from behind enemy lines and having RPGs and AKs shot at his unit all day and almost all night he held his captain in his arms until he died of a gun shot wound he rcived earlier the guy still has nightmares.

The only reason I didn't include Canada is because I know next to nothing about their Special Operations groups. And didn't want to make an idiot of myself conjecturing about things I don't know about. What I do know is that Canada's bulk military force is one of the best in quick reaction/strike force tactics, but don't have the manpower to get into a knock-down, drag-out fight. They are surgical, not bullheaded like the bulk of the US military.....happy? I even insulted myself for you.

Alpha Group are very good!!! But It is delusional to think they are above the Special Air Service, I think your lack knowledge on special operations is very clear to see! The worldwide spec ops community has already declared the most capable is the SAS, Alpha are good, so are Delta, Sayeret 13, Seal Team 6, they are all top level!!!

And how is the US going to Iraq, especially when that country was in violation of UN resolutions, different from Russians going into Chechnya?

The US Violated the laws while going in Irak...don't you remember Bush saying to the UN that if they weren't with the US they were the enemy? They didn't declared war officially.
