The front element/lens/glass is usually designed to be the hardest part of any lens. With regards to Canon, they require a fee (usually 1/8-1/4 of the price of the lens) to replace the front element. Not too shabby considering you don't need to buy a whole new lens. ;)

For example, the 24-70mm f/2.8L of Canon costs 'bout $300 to repair the front element. The lens costs $1,280 brand-new.

actually it's not the lens that breaks but rather the glass cover on the camera. If the lens broke, you'd not be able to see through the hole in the shot at the end.. Must say though, he hardly reacted when that hit the camera though....lol

Apparently it didn't crack the lens, they have a protective glass covering the lens but it will cost $20,000 to replace.
