He is almost never involved in the attacking third because of this. AVB wants a more fluid midfield with high pressing and high defensive line. Mikel is not suited for that playstyle because there will be alot of space in behind him and the defense. You need a pacy DM for that playstyle (Essien/Romeu).

being an 'anchor' - no other team top half team in the league use an anchor midfielder. and mikel doesnt have the quality to be used as anything else. it seems like ever since makele left all the manager's have seen it vital to find a replacement for him, but noone is as good. hopefully Villas-Boas's style of play will be different

@eyesea mikel doesnt have those qualities! he has decent ball control for a professional footballer, excellent 5 yard passing ability and yes i admit his long passig has improved, but never through balls, most of his game plan involved spinning round and passing backwards. yes he's big and strong but so are lots of players. what that video didnt show was that when we lost 1-0 to birmingham, he forgot to mark lee bowyer, when we drew 1-1 with newcastle, his bad pass made alex fuck up.

Mikel is a great passer, a solid defensive unit and a strong player, more capable of holding up the ball that anyone else in professional football. He shouldn't be used at his usual defensive position though. He would make a great deep lying midfielder that spreads the play and makes angled through ball. He was used too much as a garbage (anchor) man in the previous season.

Fantastic player. My favorite one. You must be stupid calling him "not good enough for Chelsea". He isn't just a DMF, he is playing on "regista" position, the same as Andrea Pirlo in A.C. Milan or Xabi Alonso, he creates attack in his position using his "field vision" and great passing skills, very intelligent and interesting player. being an 'anchor' - no other team top half team in the league use an anchor midfielder. and mikel doesnt have the quality to be used as anything else. it seems like ever since makele left all the manager's have seen it vital to find a replacement for him, but noone is as good. hopefully Villas-Boas's style of play will be different

@eyesea mikel doesnt have those qualities! he has decent ball control for a professional footballer, excellent 5 yard passing ability and yes i admit his long passig has improved, but never through balls, most of his game plan involved spinning round and passing backwards. yes he's big and strong but so are lots of players. what that video didnt show was that when we lost 1-0 to birmingham, he forgot to mark lee bowyer, when we drew 1-1 with newcastle, his bad pass made alex fuck up.

@turkurdurrrg Wow you should watch some non-chelsea matches then to see what the rest of professional footballers look like. mikel's control is very good, especially for a mid, he played lots of really good through balls this last season and he uses his strength really well. you just don't wanna give him any credit cuz you wanna see every single pass go forward. probably you hate malouda too and think he had a bad last season when he was better than every single other forward and midfielder 4 us

@eyesea i don't wanna see every pass go forward, sometimes you want possession and control, but everyone knows chelsea's attacking is too slow and unimaginative, and Mikel doesnt help. and yes I do think malouda had a bad season, apart from the first few games, he did very little for us. Drogba was better than malouda once he'd shaken off malaria, David Luiz was a greater attacking threat than malouda (although granted he wasnt very good in defense). oh and Sturridge dicked on everyone at Bolton

@turkurdurrrg malouda was the best attacker. period. and the season before that he was even better. he was the backbone of a side that was decimated by injuries and STILL fought for the league til the last 2 weeks. mikel was our best midfielder besides ramires... i really think that if you have such a fondness for common opinion maybe you should be a common fan and support man u or the arse. cfc is about a way of doing things, not just the trophies

Mikel is a great passer, a solid defensive unit and a strong player, more capable of holding up the ball that anyone else in professional football. He shouldn't be used at his usual defensive position though. He would make a great deep lying midfielder that spreads the play and makes angled through ball. He was used too much as a garbage (anchor) man in the previous season.

He doesn't improve becasue he plays in a wrong position. When he was 17 years old he was one of the top scorers in the Norwegian Premier League and has most assist. He dominated games. And in the u20 world cup in 20 he was the second best player after Messi. The position he played was attacking midfielder!

Fantastic player. My favorite one. You must be stupid calling him "not good enough for Chelsea". He isn't just a DMF, he is playing on "regista" position, the same as Andrea Pirlo in A.C. Milan or Xabi Alonso, he creates attack in his position using his "field vision" and great passing skills, very intelligent and interesting player. He is a good DMF also, very strong and competitive, making fouls when team really needs it stopping counterattacks.

we all saw how poor Chelsea's midfield has become all last month.. no balance.. Carlo has to examine his tactics.. When Chelsea lost to United a few days back, the midfield was clueless.. Carlo now realized how the balance in midfield needs to work.. He now moved Essien to the full back position and slotted Mikel in his place..hmmmmm .Now watch Carlo start playing Mikel again.
