  • Around 40 rpm at that wind. How much wind is there and how much power can it be expected to produce?

  • lit up at night it would look very futureistic

  • Much as I love VAWTs, there's just no denying that HAWTs have higher efficiency numbers.

  • Very nice, but will it blend?

  • love it :)

  • Should be called 'Kid Blender'

  • I'm building one immediately.

  • @.@

  • Don't you think these work on the ground, do you? This is only demonstrating, that it works in low speed wind. I think once there could be everywhere this kind of turbine.

Designers, come on, make it available for everyone!

  • I don't get modern art, jk awesome turbine btw....

  • Serious risk to both humans and animals.. Remove it at once!

  • I think you don't need to test it any more, works great

  • Love the design but my house doesnt run on electricity. It runs on will power.

  • What advantage does this design have over other VAWTs?

  • how nuch to own one of these units?please describe unit and price

  • Where I could get the prices for the qr5 products? The one I would think to by is precisely as in the video7. Thanks.

  • I love this thing so much…... not as a VAWT, but as kinetic structure. I am sure you could sell more for decorating Town centres than for generating power in Rural areas, The Town and City people have power anyway. They want e-tainment. How much is one for my village? rmmnet

  • I will make one like that with the old lawnmower blade :D

  • Kinda hypnotic. Wanting one one my house >.<

  • Who cares if it makes electricity? It looks so elegant. Zhen hao!

  • You guys should raise it up off the ground, not only will you get the breeze from up higher, but no children would die either!

  • How would you like to be thrown in to one of those?

  • would it get a higher RPM if the fins were bigger?

  • I think it's great that you have decided that. Feel free to contact me if you have more questions on how to build your own wind turbine.

  • How much does it cost to build one of these?

  • What I like about the vertical axis wind turbine is that it catches the wind that can be blowing from any direction and no one ever knows where the wind is coming from. Although seems that some times half way thru the spin the blades has to pass thru a stall situation.

  • Nice. What is the power?

  • Standing by a fire can be dangerous as well as crossing the road or driving a car. Roundabouts in kids play grounds are dagerous as well .Each year in the uk alone 100 people die from tripping over their own underwear.

  • This design has been around for a very long time.

These things can spinviolently fast on windy days, it would cause a hazard to someone standing by it on the ground..

Although this does say it's a test..

  • My suggestion would then be... DON'T stand NEAR it! What ever happened to personal responsibility? I say: Put them in every playground across America!

  • HUAUHAUHAHU

Yep will be so cool see this sharp blades in the parks.

    UAHUSUAHSHU

This one is much close to the ground will not gain much speed, but if put this a little higher you will have a potato Cutter... LOL

anyone know if this is good cuting potatos?

  • thank you. living in fear is death. lifes only fun when there is risk and really, 95% of the time, theres no real risk if you focus on what youre doing. nothing great is done with the motto, " better not do it cuz something bad may happen"

  • if thats not dangerous i don't know what is

  • The Spiraling Partially Negative Offset Blades seem to capture the wind with more authority and use its pushing force to the utmost,

An Excellent Design and Fascinating to Observe !

  • It´s driving me crazy... When you unfucos your eyes it looks like 3 sperm cells swimming.

  • excellent desing,Please email me the blade design thanks.good job

  • I like the design. Please email me the blade design as Im building my VAWT.

Well done on the design, it does look really cool.

  • It slices and dices...LOL

  • The problem I can see with vertical turbines is the wind resistance on the returning blade robs energy from the blades being pushed.

  • No if it's aerodynamically designed to lessen resistance on the returning blade and increase it on the leaving blade.

  • DNA! =D

  • By 'efficient' I'm assuming you mean (electricity out) / (wind energy in).

Since wind is free, it's irrelevant, except that it is loosely tied to 'Cost efficiency', that's what really matters. Vertical axis turbines may be cheaper, and easier to maintain, if you want more power, just make it bigger. I've invented a vawt, actually, can't show you yet though, your mind is too small.

  • Wind blows horizontal, to date the most efficient wind turbines are the horizontal type designs NOT the vertical or (helix type)shown here. Horiz. turbines have the most sweep area per blade diameter, thus creating the maximum torque at low wind speeds or highter. Helix or vertical wind turbines are the least efficient, in reguards to torque or useable power output!!All of these other vertical turbine designs look nice (for show) but are impractical for any kind of sufficient power generation.

  • i would have thought that the vertical design has more sweep area. if you look at it from the front it has a rectangle area exposed to the wind whereas with a horizontal wind turbine you have a circle facing the flow. this would mean that the vertical version has the potential to extract more energy.

i agree it looks really cool!

  • just beautiful. It looks like a moving piece of art. Great design and good job man.

  • neutrino22 (2 months ago)

If I placed a plutonium cylinder in the pole and sat down beneath it would I be transported to another dimension?

(No, but if you stick a plutonium cylinder UP your asshole, you can fly!)

  • and you get cancer :P

  • LIFE will give you cancer

  • these can actually work in any orientation, horizontal or vertical. They also work with water current if modified appropriately.

  • ehm.. fergawdsache ... are you so lazy that you want to put razors on the edge to cut grass? i mean its like 20 minutes to cut the grass..

  • Wow you must be an inventor.. i would try to get patent on that one !!! :)

  • Can these turbines be side mounted and used to cut grass ?

  • You are retarded....

  • ha i thought it was funny...

  • It's the other way arround I think. People storing their lawnmowers outside accedentally placed it on a dynamo of some sort... Good idea though, making machines with several purposes.

  • i like that design

  • They should get more of these around the world

  • I want to buy this wind turbine. Please email me.

  • I like it!!

  • I'm a big fan of this design. Check out the work we have done with regular wind turbines. I have been involved in many crank up towers above 100', and we did one vertical wind turbine that does around 5.0kW (a lot).

Installing these wind turbines was fun and challenging. --Thanks, Joe

  • app state is HOT HOT HOT!

  • interesting stuff

  • thank you...
