Just got my self a Tenacious and besides a little bit of a stiff opening it's a great knife and I'm looking to get one these as well. gotta feed the addiction!
You're really gonna block me for posting my opinion about your $30 knife? I never knew you were such a Nazi. Congratulations to all the brainwashed sheep that actually bought one.
Hey nutn ...big fan...reviews are great! I am debating about 2 blades for except...I would like to get the Delica 4 ffg but sceptical about how thin it is and if it can withstand any hard use...but a friend has this blade and loves it but says it can rust VERY easily. Any advice?
@MrZachpow I love my Tenacious as well. stayed sharp for a couple months before it needed a touch up! great knife series (ambitious, persistence, tenacious, resilience) esp. for the money.
Been watching your videos for long time now I love the reviews that you do on all the products you own. Watching this video inspired me to get a persistance. Every video you put out has a well balanced review (pros and cons) and you definitely have vast knowledge of metals. Just wanted to say thanks for the wisdom with every video and I'll be watching more. Oh, and you won yourself a subscriber :) thanks again.
@NJMevec2 I cut myself with my Tenacious in a similar fashion less than 1 day after getting it. i reached across the knife w/ my left ring finger to dis engage the lock (I'm left handed) and pushed on the backspine of the blade, thought my finger was clear, but apparently not! great knife though, I love it and recommend it, have 2 videos on it.
Great EDC blade... I have both and carry the persistence due to the smaller size. Surprisingly the persistence was much bigger than I thought. Perfect size EDC. I'll have to check out the smallest of the family, the ambitious...
what kind of communist fairy would think the tenacious is "too big"? I want one with a 4 1/2 blade at 3/8 inch thick, and ill carry the sumbitch everyday in shorts.
@nutnfancy .....Wish I had a sock drawer full of Centofante 3s.....My FAVORITE! So light and ergonomic....such a cool shaped blade. Do you know of a better way to change the clip on a Tenacious. I tried to turn out the "Allen" screws so I could change my clip to the "tip up" position.....stripped all but one of them. They're soft as babyshit, but I still love the knife. Spyderco needs to use stronger hardware or offer only one position for the clip.
I just got this in the mail today, Will NOT regret getting this knife it came in a lil stiff but loosened up fast. Great knife for the money. Highly recomended
I have to slightly disagree with Nutn's POU assessment of the Persistence. It may not serve as WELL in the "tactical/defensive" role as the Tenacious due to its shortned blade length and smaller handle; However, the Persistence can still slice, and I wouldn't rule it down as "purely an EDC blade." The 2 3/4" blade can do work on an attacker, if need be; in a slashing or even BOGA fashion. In the end, a blade is a blade. Just like guns, something is better than nothing--but yes; some are better.
@sizzo666 I'm not a knife expert or anything, but I was spending a long time looking at them and I'd take the persistence. The tenacious is great but I like the smaller blade on the persistence. Not as threatening but still gets the job done.
@Gmaker202 I just got my Tenacious and it too has outstanding in handle blade retention. I tested it b/c of what happened to Nutn and it wouldn't come out no matter how much I shook it. The only way it comes out is if I deploy it.
Hey Nutnfancy, should I get the tenacious or the persistence? I would use it as my primary knife for camping and EDC. I usually cary a Leatherman Juice and am looking for a decent sized, lock blade to cary alongside the Leatherman since it only has the little not locking blade.
hey just got this knife the persistance, love it edc it at work. i think the weight similarity is from the extra metal under the blade , the part that meets the liner lock. 13:32
Got one of these recently based on this review. It lives up to everything you say. Very sharp and quick deployment out of the box (unlike the more expensive Endura 4 FFG I got in the same parcel). I like everything about it except the shiny clip, so I painted it black. Much happier with the look now, and it is not so obvious when being carried. Clip is super tight and may be a pocket shreder, time will tell. Thanks for the review.
I cringed at the children cheering sound. Just saying. :P The Persistence is an excellent blade- a friend of mine has one that he EDC's along with an Endura 4 Wave.
I know you named alot of good EDC knives in this vid, but I wanted to know what you think the lowest costing, highest quality EDC knife would be. I don't have more than 30 dollars to spend. Also, where could I buy that knife online?
@nutnfancy I think that Nutnfancy already knows about this, but i wanted to know if he knew about the Spyderco Ambitious which i think it is a little version of the Persistence\Tenacious. What does he think about it? ^__^
on your spyderco resilience knife review you said that all or most men should carry at least 2 or 3 knives on them whenever possible im highly considering carryin the whole family of the tenacious (resilience, tenacious, and the persistence.)
Could you make a video about that digital camoflauge Persistence or Tenacious that is the thumbnail of this video? Thanks! If not, can anybody tell me about that type of modification?
My Persistence has proven itself as a decent EDC blade--good but not great. The only thing I really don't care for is the pocket clip: it is wide and shiny and likes to chew up my pockets. Overall, good bang for the buck...
My Centofante 3 and Delica 4 FFG tend to monopolize all my carry time these days, with the CRKT Ripple 1 thrown in on occasion (my Kiwi 3 slip-joint always rides shotgun; makes for a great EDC combo!)
@Nutnfancy, thanks for another great review! I just ordered a Spyderco Tenacious for my EDC. I cannot believe how inexpensive this knife is considering the quality of the knife and the sharpness of its blade.
I recommend you make a video also about the Böker Subcom. It is a very small but high quality knife that can be used as a money clip but it has a very sharp edge and is very useful for a small, compact and easy to carry EDC knife. Very cool one too!
So what's the best way to sharpen this steel? I mean it was razor sharp out of the box now after using it for a bit it has dulled. I've tried the Spyderco sharpener (useless), tried sandpaper, ceramic and a stone. Maybe the Lansky system?
@TheBgcheez Some people love the Lansky, but I have one and I really hate it because the stones got clogged, getting me nowhere after hours of work, and the system is cheap quality. The Sharpmaker is an excellent but incomplete system. You need an extremely coarse stone like a Shapton or extra coarse DMT. In my experience the most important sharpening tool by far is knowledge, so FAQs like from eGullet or Joe Talmadge are required reading.
@TheBgcheez Don't discredit your Sharpmaker. After you regrind your edge on an extremely coarse stone at an angle less than 30 degrees, use your Sharpmaker to finish the edge, and you'll have an awesome blade that push cuts paper like butter.
I bought this knife the other day and absolutely love it. It was sharp right out of the box. I know this because I cut myself with it the very same day. Keep making great videos. Thanks.
I Finally Got mine tenacious today Kinda only because my paramiltary been getting toomuch wear high cost knife WOW this is great i got spyderedge gonna get plain and same in persistence i only buy knifes you review from now on !!!!
This is a awesome knife for the price .. I got mine for about 30 bucks . I took 1000 grit sandpaper and put a mirror finish on the blade .. Looks alot better and its easy to clean ! .. Takes awile but you will be pleased with the result ! Blade seems a little stiff but it gets smooth after yu open it a few hundred times ! get this knife if you dnt wanna spend an arm and a leg on a knife !
hve you had problems with the lockup on your skyline? mine will either wiggle and FLY when i flip it, or will have a tight lockup but i will struggle to open it when tightened with a t10.
had the persistence for 6-8 months, thrashed on it , beat on it with a hammer through 2 pretty thick plastic dowels, broke the tip off , re honed the tip , backed up the relief edge and tightened it up still running like a champ no movement whatsoever . It is still my edc choice and ive had the sog flash II (too much movement ), kershaw skyline ,barrage , blackout and is still my favorite , only downside from china but I dremeled that off lol. thx for the vids awesome reviews.
Is this suitable at all for tactical use? Either way, I'll have to live with it because I went ahead and made the purchase after watching some of your vids!
I just received my Persistence in the mail today (from ebay). It is my first legit knife. I chose this knife exclusively from your video(s). Thanks for the review!
@louis540 I'm in the same boat. I've been watching all these videos ... I think it is time for me to buy a 'real' knife. Oh man the camo one looks so cool (from the other video).
Great review! The persistence appears to be a tougher knife to me? I just ordered one on e-bay...$27. I guess thats a good deal, gotta say I really like the full flat grind. Even though the blade is not that long, the width of it would make a nice sized hole in a bad guy for sure.
The Perserverance is made out of beer and wax and is lighter-but dont hold an edge good. Can yall tell It is Friday and im drinking. All joking aside I just ordered a Tenacious.WILL report back in a couple of months about edge retention.I use em don't abuse em-yeee haaaa!
@nutnfancy just an update, got a Tenacious back a couple months ago, Spyderco has fixed the in handle retention, or atleast on the one that i purchased
just bought this knife in europe - Old Man Store in Amsterdam - an absolute knife haven in a knife phobic european culture with not many knife stores. Had to shell out 60euros (! equivalent to 72 dollars or 48pounds sterling) and then came home and found it on a UK website for 33pounds delivered (!!!) but i dont feel bad for the privilege of the service the guy gave me and the chance to try about 20 blades int he shop! great review nutn - thanks for your hard work
Oh do i love the quality of the video. Doesnt go all mushy even at close-ups.
ps. should i go for Persistence or RAT-1? Weight isn't big deal for me. Reason being that i always worry that i lose something in my pockets and that extra weight tells me that its there : )
Loved this Review. I've just ordered from Amazon for $26.95 with free shipping. Can't wait. I suspect this will be my everything knife: Duty, Hiking, Fishing, etc...
Just signing in for a bit of feedback for the Persistence I bought a few months ago. The liner lock is still holding great, and the pivot doesn't have any play either.
I have a question though, seeing that I use it for cutting up food as well, do you have any recommendations for non-toxic lubricating oils? For the moment I'm using cooking oil, but it gums up after a week or so of use, and I have to clean it and re-oil it rather often.
Got my Persistence today. It definitely live up to big brothers reputation. All I really need is a small lanyard to give my hand more grip. Excellent review. Keep em coming.
I use to be like, Spyderco naah. Well picked up a Persistence as a lefty friendly EDC replacing my Kershaw Whirlwind (not lefty), making that Kershaw my work knife. Sorry Kershaw , nice assisted open but you just wouldn't go in my left pocket for EDC. I did put a zip tie through the thumb hole in the Spyderco for from the pocket deployment. This sucker is sharp and fast and so so thin. It melts away in the pocket.
I bought a tenacious from YCS on friday may 7th and it came in the mail on the 10th! Only 1 business day later (Friday to Monday). My tenacious has absolutely NO problems with blade retention, so make sure you relay that to Nutnfancy, Veri.
I bought the Tenacious a few weeks ago after watching your review. There doesn't seem to be any problem with the blade retention. I like how solid the blade lock up is. Its a great knife and I highly recommend it.
I have to say the Persistence has become my EDC. This is the perfect size knife to handle about any task. I have 6 Sypderco's and I seem to carry this more than anything so I ordered a couple more today for future use.
I picked up a tenacious a little over a week ago. It seems like they did strengthen the handle retention. I can't see the blade on mine falling out accidentally.
Received both the Tenacious & Persistence from yourcornerstore today and need to say that this online dealer is 100% a great place to get your knives. I have no idea how they did it but the knives were order and received so fast I was simply blown away. The knives are worth what you pay for them though. The cost of the G10 scales alone cost $24 dollars online so your really only paying 7 bucks plus postage. Good backyard EDC knives and nothing more!
@3rogueS where did you buy the new bushings at? Can you message me or post a response as I have both these Spyderco Tenacious & Persistence and would like to do the same.
I picked up one of each from YCS based on this video. They are both excellent knives for the money.
In-handle retention on my Tenacious is a bit weak as well. Nothing too bad, but enough to notice.
There are other subtle differences that suggest the Persistence may be a better knife. The machining is a bit more exact, the G10 appears to be slightly higher quality, & the tang extends further into the handle. So if you can only afford one, the Persistence definitely has it's benefits.
CHECK EBAY... I get a lot of nice knives there. Some are blems, but trust me, the blems/seconds are practically like NEW. Maybe a tiny tiny tiny spec can be found
Lol, I love your enthusiasm on the Centofante!

This is a awesome knife for the price .. I got mine for about 30 bucks . I took 1000 grit sandpaper and put a mirror finish on the blade .. Looks alot better and its easy to clean ! .. Takes awile but you will be pleased with the result ! Blade seems a little stiff but it gets smooth after yu open it a few hundred times ! get this knife if you dnt wanna spend an arm and a leg on a knife !

hve you had problems with the lockup on your skyline? mine will either wiggle and FLY when i flip it, or will have a tight lockup but i will struggle to open it when tightened with a t10.
silentsniper441 1 year ago
had the persistence for 6-8 months, thrashed on it , beat on it with a hammer through 2 pretty thick plastic dowels, broke the tip off , re honed the tip , backed up the relief edge and tightened it up still running like a champ no movement whatsoever . It is still my edc choice and ive had the sog flash II (too much movement ), kershaw skyline ,barrage , blackout and is still my favorite , only downside from china but I dremeled that off lol. thx for the vids awesome reviews.

Hey nutnfancy,
I just received my Persistence in the mail today (from ebay). It is my first legit knife. I chose this knife exclusively from your video(s). Thanks for the review!

@louis540 I'm in the same boat. I've been watching all these videos ... I think it is time for me to buy a 'real' knife. Oh man the camo one looks so cool (from the other video).

Both my Tenacious and my Persistence have great retention. And i bought my Tenacious when it came out..
I actually did a test where I held both in one hand, and swung my arm hard. And they opened at equal force, which was pretty hard.
So you were just unlucky with the retention on yours, dude.

Great review! The persistence appears to be a tougher knife to me? I just ordered one on e-bay...$27. I guess thats a good deal, gotta say I really like the full flat grind. Even though the blade is not that long, the width of it would make a nice sized hole in a bad guy for sure.
McW00000 1 year ago
The Perserverance is made out of beer and wax and is lighter-but dont hold an edge good. Can yall tell It is Friday and im drinking. All joking aside I just ordered a Tenacious.WILL report back in a couple of months about edge retention.I use em don't abuse em-yeee haaaa!

just bought this knife in europe - Old Man Store in Amsterdam - an absolute knife haven in a knife phobic european culture with not many knife stores.

Keep up the great reviews! Cheers, Sami

I got the persistence, is there some sort of technique to get the blade to deploy that quick?

Very helpful review of that Persistence. YCS has 215 in stock at < $30 right now. I'm thinking about it...

I bought the Tenacious a few weeks ago after watching your review. There doesn't seem to be any problem with the blade retention. I like how solid the blade lock up is. Its a great knife and I highly recommend it.
andrewl1986 2 years ago
I have to say the Persistence has become my EDC. This is the perfect size knife to handle about any task. I have 6 Sypderco's and I seem to carry this more than anything so I ordered a couple more today for future use.

@TheBgcheez It's an amazing feeling to find something you love so much that you fear discontinuation! (that's why marriage was invented)

Good backyard EDC knives and nothing more!

well i replaced the bushings in my crap persistence, now onto the crap Tenacious.
3rogueS 2 years ago
@3rogueS where did you buy the new bushings at? Can you message me or post a response as I have both these Spyderco Tenacious & Persistence and would like to do the same.
TheBgcheez 2 years ago
I picked up one of each from YCS based on this video. They are both excellent knives for the money.
In-handle retention on my Tenacious is a bit weak as well. Nothing too bad, but enough to notice.
There are other subtle differences that suggest the Persistence may be a better knife. The machining is a bit more exact, the G10 appears to be slightly higher quality, & the tang extends further into the handle. So if you can only afford one, the Persistence definitely has it's benefits.
BubbaGannoosh 2 years ago 4
Handle retention, 'bluntruth4u' shows how to fix that prob. watch?v=SOjwG98ftpk, @ 8:45. Yes you should use better materials, but this is the trick.
And i wish the Tenacious' tang went further into the handle, it's odd that the shorter Persistence has a more stout tang.
3rogueS 2 years ago
garbage knife, not worth $30 bucks. go with the Rat 1 for $30.
Persistence and Tenacious, what a BIG let down.
