  • everyone please shut the hell up on who's better and just listen to greatness cover greatness

  • Note that he says in the end that he told himself that he would never cover a Jeff Buckley song, as well as saying "It's really easy - you don't push an old lady on the street, you don't cover Jeff Buckley"

  • How about you guys stop fighting? They are both really talented. Listen to what ever version you like better, there isn't really a reason to fight.

  • I think everyone should give john mayer a break. He was just covering a song. Jeff buckley covered songs by the great leonard cohen and nina simone led zeppelin and even some of his fathers songs. now don't get me wrong I love jeff buckley hes my favorite musician and probably the greatest influence anyone has ever had on me. But give john a break. obviously he has great respect for him by the comments he said after the song. He was just paying respect to one of the greatest musicians of all tim

  • @MrEstra5639 Agree! This is no different than any of us playing a Buckley song. We would do so simply because we love Jeff Buckley and his spectacular music. Its not as though we are claiming to be better or disrespecting him. John was simply playing a Buckley song, recognizing how spectacular Buckley was. He did a good job. There is no use in criticizing him. The man has certainly proven himself many times with his own music, why chew him out of a cover?

  • Mayer is a good artist, maybe one of the greatest in nowadays showbiz, but sometimes he goes over. This is one

  • I don't get what everyone is going on about. Of course he can't do this song as well as Jeff, no one can. That doesn't matter, he did a really good job either way, and just the fact that my favorite present artist is paying tribute to my favorite artist of all time makes me happy. Like someone said before me, music isn't a race, just enjoy it.

  • y'know... maybe it really sounds good... no, it really doesn't... I don't know, but the thing is that I'm a real JERK who thinks John Mayer is way too ordinary to make a decent cover of Jeff Buckley XD

  • A valiant. He at least tries to respect the ideal that Jeff was trying to portray. Way better than that Mraz guy trying to cover this and way over singing it like it's some sort of gangsta song.

  • You know it's true, jeff should not be covered just because there's not many out there at all that can even come close. But.... It's nice to know that even now there are those out there that were, like you and i, so touched by his music that they took the time to learn and put forth the effort to pay homage to Jeff. Yes, this is no jeff buckley original but none the less, a nice tribute to one of the best songs ever written...

  • A cover is an homage. Jeff loved Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen but he wanted to honor the original musician by re-expressing the meaning the song had to him and honoring the musician that gave it to him. John covering Buckley isn't an afront to a song, it's an ode to a musician that helped shape the music that he lives and breathes. It's beautiful and will always be Jeff's song. John honored him but it will always be a Jeff Buckley song.

  • Ahahaha you can't sing a song of a man that has 4 octaves vocal range, Jeff is the best, He is never over....

  • This isn't even a cover. It's a tribute for someone I'm positive that John has great respect for. You can hear just from John's voice that he feels the song. It's not meant to be an improvement.

  • Douchebag Covers Legend... News at 6.

  • All the people hating this rendition obviously don't know John Mayer. He often plays tunes that are just in his head at the time. I would be doubtful if he practised this much at all before playing. That is why you can hear a few stops and starts in the guitar because he is having to think of the next chord. It's just a bit of fun.

  • Jeff Buckley is (was) one of a kind, you can't compare him to anyone in anyway, he has at least a 4 octaves vocal range (listen to him singing "Dido's lament" and "dream brother" live in australia 1996, you'll see) and talking about him playing guitar, Jimmy Page himself can't stop talking how gifted and clever he was (Grace being his favorite album). Jeff also has been a huge inspiration for musicians like Thom Yorke, Matthew Bellamy, Brandon Boyd...not to forget how smart & passionate he was

  • @2222titia Agreed, he's one of the best singers to ever exist but whether he's better at guitar is up to debate.

  • @markitymark90 he is.

  • @rmsatheesh88

    prove it

  • @markitymark90 have you ever actually seen jeff play guitar? or even listened? he didn't even need to try all these special effects or to tune down or up, he was mostly in standard tuning and orchestras dont even sound as phenomenal as jeff or as passionate. he was a god among men and while this is a fairly decent cover, just listen to johns guitar somewhere around 4 mins in, hes just strumming aimlessly with no direction. but i'll leave it at that.

  • @markitymark90 also, i'll just leave this here: /watch?v=6EECFyOdRYU

  • @markitymark90 shut up!!

    he is.

  • @2222titia There's no meaningful purpose in comparing a modern, popularly relevant artist to a past one, in order to emphasize - if not to legitimize - that past artist's greatness. That one begat the other is irrelevant. The music should be enough - whether someone says its shite or gold doesn't matter. The music will tell the truth.

  • @ocduff agree... wasn"t comparing. only saying facts.

  • oh yeah.. let's quote John Mayer "I told myself that I will never cover a Jeff Buckley song, but I guess I just did (...) it's really easy, you don't push old ladies down the street, you DON'T COVER JEFF BUCKLEY"

  • Comment removed

  • Decent cover, Mayer just doesn't have the pipes for the vocal acrobatics though... can't hit those full bodied high notes without falsetto.

  • good but no where near the singing ability jeff had nor the guitar alent hes decent but puts his own style into this song he should make it more about jeff he is the one who wrote it dont get me wrong i respect the shit out of mayer but he should try to sing it more like jeff he adds to much of his style

  • i kinda agree with @thejohnnydoughs (except for the childish comment at the end) that its pretty damn obvious that jeff is the better guitarist especially if you know more of jeffs music than only a couple of songs.. also jeff is a more versitil guitarist as he is fluent in jazz, blues, rock, punk, classical, Qawwali, folk, and too many more to list while on the the other hand you have meyer who is a pretty frieking good blues and rock player. jeff buckley for sure brings alot more to the table!

  • John did a great job on that song - woot for JM - he's from this area in CT - below is the best version I have ever heard of this song - I was there live - CoT out of Chicago playing in NYC - song kicks in at 1:55 - what y'all think?

    youtube.com/watch?v=2hsIxFm6VK0

Does John Mayer do a show in Fairfield CT at all - prolly always cool to do something in your hometown, right?

  • Comment removed

  • @Shishimu You can even say John plays John for that matter since he has a unique playstyle, as with every guitarist out there. You people need to shut up because the argument whether buckley or mayer is a better guitarist is pointless. Stop sucking on jeff and john's dick and appreciate the music.

  • Comment removed

  • @Shishimu Every good guitarist has his own style, sure you can hear their influences but their own personality still shine through . You seem offended by my comment, but I wasn't talking to just you, i'm talking about all the fanboys that argue whether someone is "better" and whatnot. Oh, and you're telling me not to moderate the comments in my own video? That's silly.

  • @markitymark90 i am sorry "mighty video uploader", i'll be going then... bye

  • what song was next?!!?! i have to know!

  • @4TheMus1c have you found out what song he played next?

  • @louislouis77777 sadly no

  • It's absolutely ridiculous to say no one should cover Buckley. He isn't the greatest songwriter ever, though I admit he is up there. I suppose it's wrong to cover The Beatles, Bob Dylan, and Jimi Hendrix too?

Get over yourselves. Buckley covered people, too.

  • @vintagesound29 Thank you!

  • @vintagesound29 that's because buckley could cover other people and make it unique to him, and you say buckley wasn't the greatest songwriter, how do you know that to be true, Dylan of course is the bees knees, but he's been in the business for 50 odd years, while jeff was only in it for a few short yrs, and also it's Jeffs voice AND guitar playing that puts him above most, love John major, and even he knows what's what, when it comes to talent!!

  • @hannah4440 Lots of people cover songs and make them their own. Buckley may be better at it than others, but he isn't the only one to accomplish it. Seriously, take him down off that pedestal.

Also, Dylan was writing (arguably) his best material in his earliest years. So, that comparison doesn't really hold up. If you want to compare Jeff Buckley at 30 to Dylan at 30, Buckley would be pretty humbled.

Either way, I love Buckley. He's great, but to say he can't be covered is just ridiculous.

  • dude yelling "Buckley!!!", yeah, we know...

  • Sorry, i adore John Mayer (he's kind of an idol for me), but there are songs that are unreachable, and this is one of them.

  • he does have a beautiful voice.

  • @TheJohnnydoughs @duquedupre If you guys can show me displays of better guitar work in Buckley, I'll gladly take back what I've said. I just have so much confidence in Mayer as guitarist, I don't think Buckley has the upper hand in that department.

  • such a crappy rendition and i like john mayer...but almost ruined the song in my opinion

  • When you hear someone of the calibre of John Mayer cover one of Jeff's songs and not even come close to delivering the same emotion and sense of feeling (no disrespect John), it's then you truly realise the gift Jeff Buckley gave us all. It's one thing to be an extremely talented singer/guitarist, but to take music to a place where it actually makes you feel differently about things is truly remarkable.

  • AS her shoes fill up with Waw-ter

    Haha

  • i wanna punch that douche bag that keeps screaming and clapping.. omg.

  • @waffle1683 Same here. He's so fucking annoying. It seems like his jst trying to get recognition that he knows it's a Buckley song. If he reads this I hope he knows he's a douche.

  • Im glad to see that he didnt tried to reach those extremely high notes, it shows that he really is paying tribute rather than imitating Jeff :)

  • beautiful tribute, we all miss Jeff Buckley

  • Im a big fan of john, but honestly even more of a buckley fan. John may not be able to sing quite like jeff (all those crazy flying buckley's!), but he really is a great guitar player. John is influenced by jeff. I think it's great that hes got the stuff to play one of jeff's songs live like this. All my respect to both of them.

  • sorry john keep fucking around and play crapy music dont fuck with jeff music jamie callum version is much better than your pussy voice

  • @MrGoonerforlife mr goonerforlife, you really are going to be a gooner for life with an attitude like that. wanker...

  • @jakeblandjk47 learn first what a gooner is before talking bitch

  • Woah woah woah, this song IS a Jeff Buckley original, no technicalities there. You must be thinking of 'So Real'. John sang this well but what he lacks is feeling. He has feeling in his own songs like "Waiting on the world to change". He should possibly stay away from covers. I was very unimpressed with 'Free Falling'

  • Can somebody let that screaming guy shut the F up?

  • This song has about the most chords I've ever seen in a song. D xx0232 Csus2 x30013 Em 022000 C#m7dim5 x42000 F#aug xx4332 F#aug/E 0x4332 Bm x24432 Dsus4 xx0233 D/A x00232 G6 320030 F# 244322 Em7* xx2433 (for the chorus only) C9 x35533 Fdim xx3101 D/F# 200232 Gm6 310030 A6 x04220 Aadd9/C# x42200 Cmaj7/E 032000 D6 xx0202 Aadd9/B x22200 Aadd9 x02200 Aadd9/F# 202200 Emadd9 022002 Em7 022030 Abdim xx0101

  • good cover but nothing like Jeff <3

  • Decent cover. I don't think there are many who can truly do justice to Jeff's music though.

  • I love the guy yelling Buckley.

  • i hate that guy ...he needs to shut the hell up and enjoy the music.....why scream like an idiot? turrets maybe?

  • @svetsark

  • @rich52080 Maybe because he is glad that he covers Buckley? I know I would be screaming if I was at a concert and the performer started to play a Buckley song. I don't think turrets has anything to do with it. Have you ever consumed alcohol?

  • @Svetsarkirurgen you're probably right about the alcohol..turrets was a joke...i just wonder why people have to ruin, in my opinion, a great cover by screaming like a moron..total disrespect for the live act

  • @rich52080 I wouldn't say it's disrepect - I think I'd have a fit if an artist I liked started one of Jeff's songs, cause it means that Jeff isn't forgotten, as he always seems to be.

  • Glad to hear a cover of Jeff Buckley song(s).

  • LOL at the screamer "BUCKLEY! YEEAAAH!!" hahahahaha

  • This is cover is unique in it's own sense. It's a cover, that's what you are suppose to do. It sounded fine to me. Alot of you argue that John can't sing this no where near like Jeff could, but isn't that the point? It's Jeff's song, no one could. John may not have the dynamic vocal range of him, but I'm pretty sure that he is much more adequate on the guitar than Buckley. Each has their own talent. It's not to race, it's music, it's to relate. He shares the emotions that Jeff had for the song.

  • @ItsCall911 Hi five!

  • @ItsCall911 I agree with you on almost every point. I love the fact that artists respect or admire another enough to pay tribute and dropping comments about how he doesn't sound like Buckley is stupid. But you need to review history a bit before commenting on something like skills with a guitar. Guys like Jimmy Page absolutely marveled at the way Buckley could play, and he was frequently compared to guys like Hendrix. Watch some of Buckleys concert vids and you will see it.

  • @Roman8341 See, I heard he was a good guitar player but I couldn't find any vids of him playing guitar extensively. Can you send me some good links?

  • @ItsCall911 He's amazing, trust me.

    watch?v=UdD3stTOBzs&feature=related

  • @ItsCall911 I mean, it's not technically Jeff's song, either.

  • @ItsCall911 they're both awesome. lets just leave it there.

  • @ItsCall911 they're both awesome. lets just leave it there. but jeff has so much more passion and uses amazing chord structure.

  • @ThePhotomusic Well that's a matter of opinion, they both are passionate and great at what they do. It's hard comparing music entities.

  • @ItsCall911 actually Buckleys Guitar Skills were World Class!!! just saying . i think its a surprising cover . im glad to hear it

  • @ItsCall911 I agree with most of your comment, your right about what you say, if it wasnt for just one point: Don't say that John's is more adequate than Jeff on the guitar. They shouldn't be compared this way, but since you did so at least don't say wrong things: Jeff was an outstanding guitar player, one of the best. :)

  • @ItsCall911 Much more adequate on the guitar than Jeff?? Lol.. John Mayer is good but to say that he is better on the guitar than Buckley?? You sir must not know music at all.. Good cover though...

  • @TheJohnnydoughs That's strictly subjective, no need for the insult.

  • @markitymark90

Well wether you like John of Jeff more is subjetive, but technically there's a difference - John is a better guitarist by far :) But most people tend to try and avoid that statement because it's somehow wrong to say? People the man plays several styles, he's great at finger picking, he's mastered the Jeff Beck technique, he can play all of SRV's song, those things alone says alot. But he is creative too. Calling Mayer bad is like saying air isn't all that good for you

  • @oliverandm John's a better guitarist in the sense of blues and guitar solos. I'd argue that Jeff was better schooled and had a better grasp on unique chords and voicings.

  • @weratestuff

Probably true, but still i see John playing with those he praised for a reason. They all admire him for his skills and age. I mean he can do quite more than we've heard on the his albums alone! Not that i disagree with you in any way, as a guitarist myself i see Buckley's chord progressions very interresting (for this song at least), but i'm only 17 and just discovered (what a crime!? :P) Buckley, so can't say all that much in this forthcoming discussion, i admire both though :)

  • @TheJohnnydoughs technically john mayer is much better than Jeff Buckley he may not be a better song writer but dont go around telling people that they know nothing about music when clearly you know nothing!

  • @TheJohnnydoughs I agree that Mayer is awesome, but his style lean more towards blues. Jeff showed a completely different style, han his music was something of its own. Another thing...it´s impossible to say Mayer is more accurate based on a Jeff cover. How Jeff did it was how it was supposed to be. One thing for sure though. John will never be the vocalist Jeff was, again, something of it´s own. Bu tI have to say...I love them both for what they have given- and continue to give me musically.

  • @TheJohnnydoughs Actually I would agree, JM is much better on guitar. Although they are two different styles, Jeff was more of a vocalist singer songwriter and composed different arrangements with his band. John mayer knows his singing isn't that great but not even clapton or bbking can deny that he plays great blues guitar and is a virtuoso on the instrument.

  • @TheJohnnydoughs john mayer is one of the best guitarist in the world so yeah i would say he's better than most people...

  • @TheJohnnydoughs

He is quite a lot better than most guitarists out there now and then. I'm gonna say something that i know people will be against, but every decent guitarist should be well aware of this or else you are just denying for the sake of it, but Mayer knows tons of SRV songs (that's one thing alone) Hendrix, Clapton, Buckley, DMB, and so on and so forth, he plays pop, rock, i've heard him shred.. hear Covered in Rain, that's almost 10 years old, imagine his skills now... He is GOOD

  • @ItsCall911 Jeff Buckley made his name as a session guitarist before anyone even knew about his voice. I'm pretty sure he was more than "adequate" on the guitar.

Just enjoy Mayer's performance for what it is; a tribute to a musician who he would probably agree was more talented than he is.

  • @Lethkhar2000 Show me a better guitar performance than basic rhythm from Buckley. Plain and simple.

  • Comment removed

  • @ItsCall911 Here's one example of Jeff's guitar playing ability. Check out /watch?v=735JfZnxDjg starting at 2:30

  • @ItsCall911 I definitely agree with you that covers can be what ever the artist wants them to be.... But to say that Mayer is better guitarist than Buckley is way off... Buckley's electric blues style was way overlooked because how outrageous his vocals were.

  • @duquedupre Believe me, I've tried to search for a video of Buckely playing guitar extensively, I've yet to see him play anything besides basic rhythm guitar.

  • @ItsCall911 dude... jeff started as a guitarist and played for many, many years... know your stuff.

  • @OceanAndSilence I already know that, I read up on him. But it boggles me that no one has showed me proof that he can play guitar more extensively than just some basic rhythm work and very seldom soloing, not saying he is a bad guitarist. Back up your stuff.

  • @ItsCall911 uh... footage is rare, especially now that he's passed. I would think that the word of all the great guitarists raving about his playing would be enough though; watch some of his doc's.

  • @OceanAndSilence No audio recordings??? And which guitar greats? And you gotta remember there's a lot of people who like to talk about a famous person as if they knew him or her so well, take Jimi Hendrix for example. I'm trying to being logical, I'm not trying to bash Buckley, I like him.

  • @ItsCall911 I can't post links here! if you really want to know, you would find out yourself, just like I did.

  • "YEAAAAH"

  • toshay man,totally agree.

  • jeff did not repackage his fathers music. their styles were so off

  • Ha!

  • He likes JEFF BUCKLEY, so gotta like him somewhat, so keep to the JEFF BUCKLEY covers going, lets just GET BUCKLEY OUT THERE, SOMEHOW!!!

  • Hermosa canción, hermoso artista♥

  • You just punched a one-way ticket to Hell, Mayer!

  • this is awful. its like he forgot how to sing, and i know (and usually appreciate) that he can sing. but this is sad. hang head and cry.

  • Just thinking the other day that Buckley was the guy that Mayer desperately wanted to be. Both have massive talent, but Buckley was on a completely different plane. His range and the way he transitioned and maintained it are unparalleled. Buckley's emotional connection to his music could make a grown-ass man cry, as well.

  • John you're my favourite artist but you failed on this one. You don't have to emulate the notes, melody or whatever but you need to emulate the feeling and very few put the feeling that Buckley puts into music. You went too far from your shore

  • decent cover. I really like it. he makes it his own and pays tribute to Buckley. Nothing tops Buckley though, obviously (if it must be a contest)..

  • Sorry John great cover but Jeff was still well above you with his soulful voice

  • I really like John Mayer's music. Having said that: this is not even close to Jeff Buckley's version. John mayer should stick to john mayer and let buckley be buckley!

  • Well he absolutely butchered this. Please stop covering Jeff Buckley.

  • Another nice cover of one of Jeff's best. love them for what they are. Nice covers. Mayer makes his own excellent music.

  • fuck you u faggot ass bitch

  • I wish i was there at this performance so i could SLAP the idiot in the crowd that keeps screaming and shouting

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • pure shite version... twat

  • Not too bad. I'm not a huge John Mayer fan, but I think he has the lazy insightful voicing to carry this. It's not a rock ballad, or a political protest set to music, and he sings it in his own way.

  • this is pretty good but obviosuly nothing can beat the priginal of anysong so theres no point and arguing guys

  • @dcdude171 I think there are covers that sometimes reach, and sometimes surpass the original. Bob Dylan himself said that Hendrix's "Watchtower" was better. I'm not sure if I agree. I love covers from good artists. It's cool to hear a good artist put their own twist on a great song. Not arguing, just interjecting.

  • You got the chords, rhythm and melody all wrong. You're stepping on sacred ground here pal. Try covering someone more akin to your own voice-you might get label interest...good luck.

  • @mattkimb1 do you know what you're talking about?

  • @markitymark90 His voice is all over the place and the emotions sound fake-like some X-factor contestant. You can hear he doesn't really have the range. But fair play, everyone should have a go. Like I said before, good luck to him

  • @mattkimb1 it's nothing to do with chords, rythm, OR melody.

  • @markitymark90 Sorry mate, I just live winding people up on youtube! I really don't mind who covers who, whether its J-lo covering Whitney Houston on Madonna sampling Abba. As far as I can see, there's nothing original coming out the music industry toady. Everything seems to be a repackagng of the heyday of pop music in the 60's and 70's. Even Buckley was repackaging his dad, Tim, for the 90's. I guess we live in less inspiring times.

  • @mattkimb1 I hear ya man.

  • Comment removed

  • @mattkimb1

Every artist, musician or otherwise, is simply a product of there surroundings. This includes the art they are exposed to, and that they choose to expose themselves to. Every generation, every genre, and every musician is a reflection of that past in their own spirit. Music has been doubling back on itself since the beginning and that is how it moves forward. It's constantly building on itself... and that is where innovation originates. Love it all for what it is...

  • @mattkimb1 I don't

  • @mattkimb1 i totally disagree with the less inspirational part. people do covers because they are songs they love. artists have always been inspired/learned from other artists. it's always been that way, you just notice it moreso now because well it's now, and when you thing 'back then' you won't notice it as much or even care that much. I'm just saying i think artists nowadays have more inspiration for more moving music than any other time in history. there's just a lot of crap around too. =]

  • @mattkimb1 I think you totally misunderstood the concept of covering people. It's not using other people's words because you can't come up with your own: it's paying a hommage to the artists and the music before you.

  • @mattkimb1 Jeff took exactly no musical influence from his father. If you honestly think he just modernized what Tim Buckley was doing, then you must be extremely unfamiliar with one of the two artists (or entirely clueless about music in general). The only thing that they had in common was their vocal range.

  • @mattkimb1Excuse me? The LAST thing Buckley wanted was to be compared to his father. Their voice may have been similar but Jeff BARELY knew the man who was his father. They were completely different people. Their music was completely different. And tragically, people are ALWAYS comparing him to his father, even in his death.

  • @mattkimb1 there is nothing wrong with that. buckley wrote beautiful new songs for the world. everybody is like someone else. i dont think you can really ever do something musically that someone else has never tried. its just who gets famous first. but i get what your saying, and most of the time i feel the same way you do.

  • Why are you guys arguing? Just shut the fuck up, listen and enjoy, or get get the fuck off the page. There are plenty of other videos you can watch.

  • i like John Mayer, but he's no Jeff Buckley.

  • pointless! there are some artist and song that can not be covered! simple as that!

  • While I'm ok with muscians paying tribute to the music that has influenced them, and for that I give Mayer a nod.....he is right when he says don't ever cover Jeff Buckley songs lol

  • for once the loudest fan is a guy.

  • what's the purpose of this cover? It ads nothing to the song.. why doesn't he add anything? jeff buckley did it better 15 years ago...

  • i think it's some kind of tribute to Jeff.. I like that he kept the song in it's original state.

  • jeff buckley.. who knows what he would have done ..?amazing artist

  • can you say butcher?

  • yo im lovin that guy that keeps screamin "BUCKLEY!!" lol damn straight man jeff was the shit. nd john mayer definitely made a nice tribute to jeff with this

  • I love Jeff Buckley, and I don't MIND John Mayer... I was not a great fan of this version in particular, though I am sorry to say. There is just nowhere near enough soul.

  • As the huge Jeff Buckley fan I am, and not really liking John Mayer at all, I can still admire this homage to Jeff's great music. Sure, John misses the power that Jeff brought to this song, but nobody is ever going to match that. Mayer still brings his own fire to this song a little bit, and his heart is in the right place trying to do it. At times he seems to close to authentic, but he stills falls short of Jeff giving you his whole heart and soul.

  • nice way to put it man

  • The guy yelling "Buckley" and clapping would have have been me! haha

  • MAGIC IS REAL

  • "BUCKLEYY!!!"

    haha,

john you did an awesome job :D

jeff will live on through musicians like you dude :)

and his awesome fans, like me haha =]

  • Omg! I love john, but I love Jeff the most, he´s my favourite singer, his voice is just so unique...great job John, I admire you're brave enough to sing a song of such an incredible artist like Jeff...

  • John Mayer is a very very good guitarist and has a great eye for chords and stuff, i'm sure he must have been inspired by Buckley. This is pretty good but jeff's voice is hard to beat, but Mayer wasn't trying to 'beat' Jeff but pay tribute to him, so more power to him he did it well!

  • john mayer is a great,great,great,great musician!!

    but jeff buckley is unbelievable

  • So true, not one of my favorite JB songs however the vocals are purely amazing

  • John Mayer yes is very good, but c'mon let's really be honest he's not even close skill wise to SRV's guitar ability, JB's singing ability. I've seen all three when I saw SRV it was the greatest blues electric guitar performace I ever saw that was 84 in Dallas. JB in Austin in 95. Mayer doesn't compare he just doesn't his guitar work isn't original, SRV's was, and original or not everything about JB was almost to beautiful to behold, he sang opera for god's sake. Listen to Dido's lament.

  • lmao don't compare him to the greats but in this day and age this is the closest we'll get to a "guitar god"

  • @markitymark90

Are you kidding? Listen to Machete by Buckethead.

  • first of all buckethead is a different genre and not as popular as john to be a "guitar god"

  • Popularity means nothing. Buckethead is the greatest living guitarist there is. He doesn't even fit into a specific genre. He's extremely eclectic. You should listen to his album, ;Colma.' It's arguably as serene as Grace.

  • Indeed he is a great guitarist but popularity is a major factor in being a so called "guitar god" look at jimi hendrix, jimmy page, and van halen for example, they were very popular during their time. Now look at buckethead in the 21st century, just a handful of people know him, look at john mayer he brought blues back to a mass audience, no musician has ever done it.

  • Hey dude how bout Stevie Ray Vaughn, I saw him in 84 let me tell you John Mayer in his wildest dreams couldn't play blues like SRV not in his wildest dreams Mayer to caught up in bangin every celebrity and bragging about it, instead of concentrating on playing, period.

  • lmao so what, stevie ray vaughan is a freakin legend, his skill is unmatchable so why try?
