@MpowerdAPE I am a firm omnivore but this type of treatment is just beyond cruel and so unethical. These animals are sentient; they can feel pain. If they are to be eaten, then I say do it quickly, and painlessly. Yes, they have to feed us but we also have to give them some sort of respect and not prolong such a process...

There are jewish vegans and vegetarians, but animal slaughter used to be an integral part of judaism. There was no distinction between slaughtering for food though, and ritualistic sacrifice. Animals slaughtered for food were done so as a ritualistic sacrifice, and those sacrificed were used as food. The temple priest was essentially a sochet.

On my grandfather's farm, when we had cows, we would kill them very fast and easy. We just walked up to them, calm and relaxed to not frighten them (a frightened cow can be dangerous) pulled out a .22lr rifle and fired one round into the center of the head. Death would occure almost instantly. I am confused why such dangerous, messy, and painful methods of slaughter would be needed.

I was relating to another person who will continue eating meat. Im not wishing anything bad on them, I just know that meat causes many health issues which go away when we stop eating it. If you eat too much of anything you get diseases and problems and if you only eat one thing you suffer from differences. Go try a diet of only apples if you dont believe me. Things happen in life & you have to step back, consider your options, and change your life or die. I eat all sorts of vegetables, meats, etc and I easily build muscle and work out while still having energy, and I'm in near perfect health. @ComputerGrant Eating meat isnt a problem, just eat organic if it bothers you that much, im a zoologist, and have a degree as an anthropologist, i know one of my colleagues is a vegetarian but they NEVER say that eating meat is a problem, and never forces his ideas down other's throat like a religious loon. they understand we're animals too, and it depends on where you get your meat. life is cruel, animals eat animals. leaf & meat eaters need to leave each other alone and respect.

@drewsneatlife iam a Hindu, there a millions of vegetarian hindus living healthy happy lives. I myself am not a vegetarian as I play sports and find to get the required protein intake for muscle recovery I must eat meat. The proteins found in vegetables dont have a complete amino acid profile to support an active body. I think for the average sedentary person (most people are) a healthy vege diet with milk, eggs and possibly fish provides good amino acid profiles.
@crannage2009 I wonder what the top vegan body builders do for muscle recovery or other sports people like Carl Lewis. If it wasn't for the milk (meat and dairy) industry - the word protein would have no standing whatsoever on this planet.
@ComputerGrant Just off the top of my head, I had a Clif Builder bar with coffee an hour ago. 20 grams of protein and no milk or milk by-products. I can't imagine what you are talking about. Perhaps a little research might be in order. I have lived quite well without milk or any animal flesh, etc., for 25 plus years. But, don't believe me: do an experiment and go vegetarian or vegan. @drewsneatlife Good thought indeed, I am not familiar with the American food industry, so i dont know exactly how to answer that, however i can let you know what i think based on observations in my country, Spain. A large part of Spain's food market system is still based on a medieval market system, we have Plaza's where local farmers set up shops and sell meat and other products literally not far from their origin. its a "poor man's" system, but very beneficial economically.

Eating meat TO US SPANIARDS, is more of a CULTURAL thing, rather than an industry driven one. we've been pasteurizing and eating animals for thousands of years, its traditional here. however, i am aware of the american meat company called "tyson" foods, its HUGE! they distribute to mcdonalds, so perhaps on your end it is industry driven.

I really dont think its usually done this inefficiently, but yeah, growing up on a small farm in Canada we would stick the pigs and bleed them out- easier to control a pig than a cow in its last minutes of dying... of course cows and horses are shot in the head with a big gun. There are jewish vegans and vegetarians, but animal slaughter used to be an integral part of judaism. There was no distinction between slaughtering for food though, and ritualistic sacrifice. Animals slaughtered for food were done so as a ritualistic sacrifice, and those sacrificed were used as food. The temple priest was essentially a sochet.

On my grandfather's farm, when we had cows, we would kill them very fast and easy. We just walked up to them, calm and relaxed to not frighten them (a frightened cow can be dangerous) pulled out a .22lr rifle and fired one round into the center of the head. Death would occure almost instantly. I am confused why such dangerous, messy, and painful methods of slaughter would be needed.

I myself am not a vegetarian as I play sports and find to get the required protein intake for muscle recovery I must eat meat. The proteins found in vegetables dont have a complete amino acid profile to support an active body. I think for the average sedentary person (most people are) a healthy vege diet with milk, eggs and possibly fish provides good amino acid profiles.

A large part of Spain's food market system is still based on a medieval market system, we have Plaza's where local farmers set up shops and sell meat and other products literally not far from their origin. its a "poor man's" system, but very beneficial economically.

modern research shows that when you cut the throat and two major veins supply of blood to brain immediately cuts off and brain goes into comma and the animal feels nothing also whole blood from the body drains out which make the meat clean and becteria free.

I really dont think its usually done this inefficiently, but yeah, growing up on a small farm in Canada we would stick the pigs and bleed them out- easier to control a pig than a cow in its last minutes of dying... of course cows and horses are shot in the head with a big gun. I suppose in the bigger slaughterhouses they're stunned before being bled out. If a govt took a stand and gave them the 'correct' facility and some pay they'd do it 'our way'

Every asshole who does this needs to be made to watch this done to his/her kids, even forced to participate. While this is occurring they should be housed as they have housed the animals they tortured, no water. They will be told from the start that as soon as their last remaining loved one is dead that they will go through the process themselves. @askegg I don't even think that religion is the problem here, just a lack of empathy and animal cruelty. A few years dad was upset when some guys slaughtered an ox in front of the other cattle. This was at my grandma's farm and there were no Muslims involved.
It's just a failure to recognize that animals we think of as lower than ourselves experience fear and pain.

It's not that religion is inherently bad, but religious ideas (such as animals not having "souls") promote ideals that would otherwise be considered evil. Religion is too often used as a shield for acts of cruelty to hide behind.
