The mating season is winter. In Japan, in my igu's case, it starts around November and ends in around May. They mate in colder season and babies born in hot season in their native lands. If you are worried about male iguana's crazy behavior, you should not keep them anyway. If you can enjoy it, you can keep them.
How long does this period last? Im very concern about adult male iguana aggressiveness that stops me from getting one...especially when they are in heat.
