  • this is awesome

  • Well whadda you know, their armour ISN'T too strong for blasters. Now who's going to explain that to the families of the dozens of pilots lost during the battle of Hoth? Such a tragedy

  • What about the fucking "bomb-hatch" that jumps off the fucking walker and chases your fucking snow ship, goddammit?

  • I wish they would have posted this on Youtube 30 years ago so I knew what the hell I was supposed to do!

  • A YouTube video that time-traveled to 1982 then came back to now to post it?!

  • UTTER SHIT

  • @tninbredretard uhhh this was 1982...

  • 3:14 Hell yeah... I'm Luke Skywalker.

  • I must tell, this game review on youtube is better then milions of others even this is made in 1982!

  • Holy crap! This guy did a YouTube video back in 1982? LOL

  • They don't look like camels, they look like M.U.L.E.s!

  • I was 10 years old back then, I played this game to death.

  • This may sound stupid but after 25-26 years, thanks to this video, I NOW know how to properly play the game. Walkers changing colors? Go to the back after yellowing the first one, etc?

    I KNEW NONE OF THAT.

  • we've come a long way since this

  • Next on my list.... E fucking T

  • Better graphics than a ps3

  • One of the first movie games! A great job for the VCS 2600!

  • "Which retards..."

  • Might be one of the best Atari 2600 games. But that's not really saying much, they all kinda suck :/

  • damn i wish i knew this strat. when i was 3years old, i just kept killing the first walker.

  • Worst game ever! Well, next to E.T. :DDDD

  • i lol'ed at "now you can do what you please with the others"

  • Those walkers look amazing for Atari.

  • peteco

  • Holy shit O_o ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • "There's no telling how many hits you can stand from a walker, but it is something between three and five." "Any ship may be repaired twice." Weird, those weren't the rules I remember when I played this game. I could withstand a single hit, but could repair myself as frequently as I wanted.

  • lol its chopper attack with different colors! lol.

  • the walkers look a wee bit like camels

  • When your a kid just happy to have the game... Your just shooting the damn things anywhere.. Flying around just to hear that music.. LOL

  • i had the code for this for the spectrum, sadly i never entered it in, they usually never worked, sad, because this looks very good

  • The only trick I knew at the time was to hit the hatch when it was lit.... dang!

  • Where was this video when i played this game!?? .. I never knew about the bomb hatch :<

  • Pretty good game for what it was worth back then!

  • Those walkers are being retarded hahaha get it??

  • I thought you looked like ryan seacrest from your voice..this video made me think otherwise..Mr.Will Ferrel :D

  • the lead walksers look like camels

  • @TheGanstaben

Interesting you should mention that. There's a C64 release that featured camels instead of ATATs. Presumably, they couldn't get the licence for it.

  • I love how they show few pixels and say its a snowspeeder ship what imagination :D

  • I've heard that they are gonna release this for x-box live.

  • I wasted so many hours on this damn game. The web between my thumb and forefinger hurts just watching this now!

  • LOL Much better than Shadows of the empire for n64... NAAAAAAAAAAAAH

  • 3:13

"Oh my God. What a fun game. I could do this allllll day."

  • This I liked.

  • wow...thats game was very nice

  • Comment removed

  • couldn't believe what at 2:34 happened.

    pro skill!

  • I always liked this game. The colors me of like, a late afternoon winter day (being on Hoth & all). I remember getting this game for Xmas in the 80's. I remember it was snowing/blowing & cold outside. Xmas day, late afternoon, the Xmas tree lights were turned on, a ham in the oven, "White Xmas" was playing on the radio, & the fireplace was lit. It was all cozy indoors & I was play this game in the living-room on a 25in Magnavox console TV.

  • @gjc82071 Gold Moments

  • @gjc82071 I can totally relate to what you say, even though I didn't play that game. I have the same kind of childhood memories. Great times, playing outside or playing video games with friends when I was living in Quebec... Ah that's nostalgia !!

  • @krikrou100 Cool dude! I'm nostalgic + a lover of retro/classic video gaming & movies/film. Since I don't have the technology to build a "time machine", I collect emulators (& have 15 real game consoles) & ROMs/games for/of classic/retro game systems (& movies too). Besides just liking to play them, they kinda "take me back" & enhance the memory/nostalgia. @ times I remember where/when I played'em. It's as close as I can get to the real deal. Your age BTW? You into classic gaming at all?

  • @gjc82071 Hey man! Sorry for delay.. I also get my way to playing with those old and dusty games (My video game culture mostly starts around 1988). And I also think the main purpose of playing them is to get back in the past (a wounderful past where we only remember the great things, enhanced indeed by nostalgia of childhood). The music of the old games are often really great too and take you back there! It's a new kind of box of souvenirs, quite a recent phenomenon IMO... I'm 29 and you?

  • @krikrou100 I am 39, so actually we are a video game "generation" apart (me 2nd gen, you 3rd). You probably grew up with NES & Sega, where as I was raised on Atari 2600 (was actually the 1st kid in school with an Atari) & Intellivision, (& later on Commodore VIC20 & C64), right? Don't get me wrong though, besides the "memories"/nostalgia, I love to actually "play" classic games! So are you into emulation at all? Some retro emulators have Keleria Clinet to play PvP online! Take care! {=o)

  • @gjc82071 i'm jelly, teh communismz was upon us (yeah fuck russia), we didn't get any of this great stuff, only 2 hours of communist propaganda on teh telly :(( Anywayz time haz changed and we are in EU now and Russia is the same piece of shit country as before.

  • @gjc82071 -- I like your description and nostalgia :)

  • @lookbacktime Thx {=o)

So, have you ever played this game? Are you into retro/classic gaming at all?

  • watch carefully: the destroyed missile scores 10 points at 3:38 !

  • that kid seems to have the best time of his life

  • they look camels

  • This is the real life Look Around You.

  • what if you fly to the last one and shoot at his back? i mean, all these walkers only walk to the right, no turning left and shoot you...

  • @flamewaker9 There is a tip/trick where supposedly you shoot, but not kill the last 1 (the more damaged, the slower they walk) & then do the same to the 1st 1. This slows down the whole line of walkers, giving you more time. You then pick off the rest in the middle.

  • @gjc82071 uh yeah.. as the um VIDEO HERE describes... lol

  • @MeIancholyMan Yea, kinda noticed that AFTER I posted the comment. Oh well.

  • This video just made video games boring.

  • what a peice of shit fucking game. i couldn't wait for the 5200 to come and replace this fucking abomination.

  • @penske13 jesus, child...lay off the coffee! It's not that big a deal to get all steamed about.

  • @thekevalin child?!

  • @penske13

A figure of speech, love, not a commentary on maturity. I could just as easily have used "darlin'", or "dear," and have, when the mood struck. Just cause we're all strangers, it doesn't mean we have to be nasty to each other, what?

The point is, while it WAS a really cheesy game (a lot of them were), it gave some of us hours of fun... along witha really flimsy excuse to drink or eat ourselves into a stupor!

Brings back some good memories... and the video gave me a laugh.

  • @thekevalin yea i guess that's true. it was still a suck ass game though. :) of all of the systems out at the time the 2600 was the worst. jmo.

  • Plays similar to Defender (Minus the mutants, & killing all the people forcing an epilepsical eyestrain) but with Imperial Walkers! Ah, the very first clone.

  • haaa ! i had a score of 9997.00 WITH SMART BOMBS ..Watch this vid if you think thats easy..oh about 20 yrs ago..this was.

  • First Star Wars video game.

  • What great graphics for Atari! I would of loved to be alive back when this was released.

  • What if they made one of these videos on Custer's Revenge?

  • is this video for real?

  • :) i remeber this game

  • As a kid, this was 1 of my favorite Atari 2600 games. I remember getting it Xmas morning & playing it all day on the Magnavox 25in console TV in the family room. Anybody ever think about how today, most new release video games are usually $50. Well, in the early 80's they were the same price. $50 (this game was, as was Pacman) Well, with inflationary adjustment, $50 in 1981-2 is more like $ 120 today! That is a lot of $ for a 4k cartridge!

  • who is this guy so i can look him up now days

  • HOLY SHIT!!!! This is GREAT! This is so life like!!! Man things changed...

  • This would actually be pretty fun to play, even in today's gaming world.

  • @Blarghurface check for the emulators and roms!

  • This information would have been nice to have known 25 years ago. Now I need to set up the old Atari so I can beat this damn game once and for all.

  • Exactly. They didn't exactly give you the important info when you played it as a kid.

  • @vpdisco had this game... played it forever... never figured it out.

  • @vpdisco hahah yes Childhood Redemption!

  • I still have this game collecting dust somewhere. What I dont think people know is if you go nuts and shoot a walker alot while its exploding, youll hear it continue exploding. When you stop shooting the walker will still be alive but a bright yellow color.

  • i used to own this game. the engine and controls of the game felt quite reminiscent to that of defender..also for the 2600.

  • holy crap what a waste of time, just shoot the blinking dot, the hell with shoting them 40-some-odd times

  • great video, though it woulda been more helpful 25 years ago!

  • Can't you just get behind the walkers? That would seem easier.

  • @vandalaylatex6969 You can shot from behind them but they can still shoot you. Its easier to hit the weak spot though since the head gets in the way in the front ones.

  • greedo never shoots in the REAL new hope

  • Cool how it plays the Star Wars theme! :)

  • I loved this game as a kid.

  • damn a turbo would make it simple

  • damn first time I see this, it's so simple as amazing. I wanna play

  • i play at simillar (maybe Chineese copy) console..same design as Atari and same games

  • Some very important tips.

  • Man, that's a very good slow motion. It must have been played back from a pro-grade VTR, not some crappy consumer equipment

  • He looks like Martin Short.

  • Great series, thanks for posting. That guy really needs a hair-cut though...

  • No way. This guy must have graduated from the Billy Dee Williams school of smoothness. All he needs with that Atari console is some Colt 45. It works every time.

  • shit :D

  • good ol' VHS tapes and game magazines, back in the days before the internet, youtube walkthroughs, and GameFaqs, before online game and optical disc formats. what a time to be alive

  • @brtshstel Yeah I wish I was born around that time.

  • @brtshstel Yea, what you say if definitely true, but 1 good thing, actually, probably the best thing about gaming/the internet is, "Emulation"!!! Thanks to emulators, I have EVERY "Atari" (2600, 5200, 7800, PC's, etc, "EVERY") console & PC, & ALL the games/software for them! I also have literally every other "classic"/retro console/PC, & all the software/games (50,000+ titles). I could never have afforded to buy them all back in the day. Now, I can actually play them ALL! So cool/much fun!

  • @brtshstel I would agree with you, but I wasn't even born even close to that era. ;_;

  • lol "retards"

  • What year is this from?

  • 1982, looks like.

  • Best Star Wars game to date.

90% of the other games are total shit.

  • but in that 10% of not-shit games is the Rogue Squadron series.

  • See, I don't get that...

ALLOT of people swear by the series, and I just never got the series.

I guess it's a very arcadey title (which I don't mean to sound like a bad thing) in a time when I was really into old school DOS games.

    My picks for the 10%:

    -Dark Forces 1 & 2 (Jedi Knight).

    -Tie Fighter

    -X Wing

    -The SNES Series

  • I think it's a great series, solid controls, well designed and with minimal glitches and bugs. It had enough complexity that it couldn't be beaten in one sitting and had replay value, but it was simple enough to pick up and play (much like any atari game).

It was one of those games with good game play in a time where everyone else tried to make it look good (graphically) without regards to playability. Its a 90s problem (starting with the PlayStation and Saturn era) that grows even as we speak.

  • OK, don't get it the wrong way, but this game seems pretty repetitive. I'm not one of those: "OMG, dis gaem SUXXoRZ, it haves bad grafikzz!!1two". I wouldn't call myself 'retro' gamer, but I appreciate old games. But... this game just seems like you're doing the same stuff over and over again - shoot at the walker 48, then repeat, repeat again, one more time, kill the last walker, and... everything repeats from the beginning. Fun at first, but gets repetitive quickly. Not a bad game, though!

  • Sweet, I have this game via an emulator and I couldn't figure out how to play this (I shot the walker but didn't understand the whole color thing).

    Cool video.

  • I need this game becuase it looks cool

  • wish I wou ld've know about slowing the walkers down. too little to late now :(

  • I like how serious this guy is.

  • hey i remember the walkers would launch a smart bomb that would chase your ship around. The video didn't show that.

  • I had this game.

  • sweet graphics (i'm not kidding)

  • do you live in a cave?

  • maybe...

i am talking about the atari graphics

  • okay, I've never played the atari so i would'nt know

  • Wow... it's amazing how much technology has progressed after only about 25 years. We went from this to The Force Unleashed. Incredible. "You can IMAGINE you're Luke Skywalker". No one has to imagine anymore...

  • You just cant appreciate classic computers can you? The 70s-80s is considered the golden age on computers because there was so much diversity! Now today everything is so generic. Big companies like Sony Microsoft and Apple have created what most (who know nothing about computers) consider a standard. With this new standard, there is less room for progression.

    ATARI 4 LIFE!

  • I disagree, one thing I hate about console gaming is that I have to buy all the systems to play all the games. If the number of consoles is more then 3, there's a problem.

  • or stop

  • Gawd I used to love this game.

  • was there ever an ending to this game? Or was it just based on who got the most point?

  • its so realistic

  • Thanks for posting!

  • 00:19 if u listen carfully just before the game comes on u can hear someone saying something, probably the camera man haha -_-

  • Guy looks like the singer from the Pet Shop Boys lol!

  • I was thinking Josh Myers.. The dude that replaced Topher Grace on That 70's Show.

  • This is actually a great strategy video--They very carefully explain all the different game mechanics and how you can exploit them. With examples in slow motion, too!

  • What`s this man`s name??

  • am sure geting this game when it comes out for sale

  • he says it at 0:18

  • You know a game is gonna be good when you "Can immagine you're Luke Skywalker". LOL. You think people will be making fun of OUR state of the art video games in 20 years?

  • i'm amazed we all used to think this was state of the art and fun.

    holy shit.

  • is this the fastest game ? it's one of thebest for a system that had as much ram as a calculator watch.

  • Wow... I remember when I used to think this game was so "realistic." XD It was my favorite game on the Atari, and yes, I believed I was Luke Skywalker.

  • if you listen carefully after the dude stops talking, you can hear a crew member saying "Cut" just barely.

  • yeah i can hear him say stop

  • So when does this game come out!?

  • in 2034 i think

  • Hey faggot, get your ass out of here. The only thing worse than a bald guy with glasses is a whiny baby without a brain. If you had READ my comment, you would see I didn't praise this game. I don't think any of us here are serious about this game. But when you assume that a game is bad because of it's graphics and sound, thats when you need to take your commens and shove them up your ***. They didn't have the technology we do, what do you expect? GTFO you 12 year bastard.

  • your gonna need 4 highend SLI video cards specially linked together to play this beast.

  • "The player who can imagine himself or herself as Luke Skywalker...." You're gonna need a lot of imagining for this game! lolz... j/k I ♥ Atari games.

    ;D

  • woo! go the 8 bit spacey laser sound! (4 bit?)

  • 4 bit dude, 4 bit

  • Wow, this video is 26 years old. I remember this tutorial series from when I was in highschool.

  • not like mgs4 but still good lol

  • Ah, the memories. I spent so-o-o much time playing this game back when it was first release. I feel so f**king old saying that. :(

  • I like the way this is presented. Modern game enthusiasts are often embarrassingly passionate about their hobby, treating good games as if they had descended from Heaven in a giant clam, and ravaging bad games like unfunny insult comics (ever read an issue of Game Informer?). This guy has a healthy appreciation for his hobby, and treats it simply as that: a hobby.

  • here here!!

  • wow awesome game

  • i reakky wanna get an atari 2600 and that game!
