No doubt some people posses technologies way ahead of whats available to the average user and these "elites" will misuse these as always, however I believe there are more powerful players at work (our future selves, angels whatever) who have other plans.
So don't worry much about the "evening news" it's all going as it should. Just be cool, don't pick up the sword I guess that's the ticket to walk away from this with the best possible outcome.
