@metriodbuster117 All you really need to know is that in the previous game (armageddon), Shao Khan (guy with the cow skull , cheapest bastard in the game) has over taken earthrealm (earth) and all the forces of light have been defeated. Only Raiden, the god of thunder and the protector of earthrealm remains and he fights Shao Khan 1v1 ( as decipted in the opening cutscene) but he is defeated and so in a last effort to save earthrealm, he sends a message to himself in the past.
