It's not the actresses' (HaJiWon & SongHyeKyo), it's the "STORY" S-T-O-R-Y you should be commenting upon .. They are both great actresses (although i like HyeKyo more) and have their own way of delivering the scenes and portraying roles .. It's just that they have to follow within the script and the director's wants on 'what-should-be-portrayed-in-t­he-movie', so stop comparing JiWon and HyeKyo ..

The main reason people "prefer" Ha Ji Won over Song Hye Kyo, is because they watched Secret Garden, and then began to hate on SHK for (at that time) dating Hyun Bin. Many Secret Garden fans have not even watched SHK's movies, but still just assume that HJW is much better in every way.. Seriously.. grow up. If either SHK or HJW couldn't act, then why would they be starred in movies? They are both good actors, so stop comparing.

I cannot agree with many people's opinions. Ha ji won's Hwang Jin Yi focused on talents in arts and love, but Song Hye Kyo's Hwang Jin Yi focused on her one love, personality as a Yang Ban '양반'. Actually, Hwang Jin Yi's poems are only things she left in this world. That is what Song Hye kyo wanted to show. Why are people so negative about her trial?

Obviously the drama is going to be better :P it's not as though you can fit in as much in a movie - background stories, other critical information, emotions, etc. Take Pride and Prejudice, for example, the mini-series was infinitely better than the movie, but that's not to say the movie wasn't well-made at all... hehe anyways, my two cents :) I think they're both great actresses by the way, pero I've started to like SHK more as a role model for myself. Odd, I know.

@knowingmeknowingyouu I think the TV series is a lot better than this movie. Just based on the trailer, I think they made this one more like an action film, instead of "really" portraying the life of Hwang Ji Ni as an exceptional artist and as the most famous and talented kisaeng of her time. Anyway, Ha Ji Won herself bested Song Hye Kyo in many ways. Ji Won is much more talented than any other Korean actresses I've known. Well, this is just my opinion.

i do not know why this movie was underestimated, but I love this one more than the drama. it is very silent but implies so many meanings. and i can see the real Hwang Jin yi rather than her artist's side.

I havent watched the TV series not the movie, but of course the TV series should be better and more detailed.

You cant expect them to cram all of it in in 90 mins. I think people should give Song Hye Kyo credit because she really is a good actress, I have seen her become so much better since Full house 1 in 2004.

very disappointing movie. Visually, it was beautiful, but the story was just, dead. And a big part of the reason HwangJini is so famous is not only because of her beauty but her talent in the arts and that was pretty much nonexistent.

I have to say that Ha JiWon's drama is actually better.

Hmm.. I have to say the most prettiest Korean woman (hwang jin-yi) turned out not quite what i expected. the series yeah she was pretty but this actor in the movie don't make see that hwang jin yi was actually a woman to die for. The records are true, about a man who was of loyalty and couldnt marry hwang jin yi but there arent any serious fighting or else this era of korea would be called the jo-seon dynasty

In Korea, this movie was released june 2006 while the other one starred by haji won was on october 2006. So this movie comes first....

Few historical records of Hwang JinY exist. The TV series was based on a book called 'I, Hwang JinY', while the film was based on the book 'Hwang JinY' by a North Korean author. The TV series highlighted Hwang's life as an artist, while the film focused more on her as an independent woman.

Well that's because the movie Memoirs of Geisha is intended for worldwide market. It happens that the story is into chinese era and they needed a chinese character which Zhang Ziyi was casted. Hwang Jini where Song Hye kyo plays is more of to the korean market that's why the movie speaks of korean.
