are they good with kids, and are they non shedding dogs, plz reply back cause i had to sell my golden retriever since we live in the city and my mom said i need to get a small and non shedding dog and she suggested one of these.

@skyblue2567 they do rarely shed but they have many skin problems. my westie has dry skin and dandruff. she loves children and is very non-aggressive. she loves chasing squirrels though lol.

yes, about every month or so is fine. good luck and hope you do pick a westie!! :)

if you groom at home, you don't need to take them to the groomers often. I do a quick comb-through everyday to detangle her. I trim her hair at home too. She only goes to a professional groomer once every few months.

And yes, they can have really bad allergies! The breed is notorious for allergy problems, itchy skin, sensitive stomachs.

skyblue, they definitely shed, just less than a golden would. They are ONLY good with children if you socialize them to be, never leave a child and dog unattended. They'll easily injure each other. They're also very energetic, persistent. I have one! She's 3 yo, from a rescue club; she's my daily alarm, hiking buddy, hot water bottle! But, be careful, LOTS of westies lose their homes bc they're a lot to handle, more dog than their owners expected. Whatever you do, don't buy one from a pet store!

lol thx for telling me im 12 so i want another dog of my own cause i had to sell my goldens, and now i can get a small dog this march, either a teacup pomeranian or a westie (i think ill get a westie ^.^ thanks so much for the info)

@skyblue2567. Great dogs, as pets or working terriers. Excellent little hunters. Some can have skin problems but this is not something is have seen much of. Please do not get a westie if you intend leaving it in the house all day. They may be small dogs but are very hardy and need lots of big walks. They r not lazy dogs and need regular exercise. Great temperaments .
