I think true addicts would really benefit from this. Problem is, they're probably playing COD or WoW right now, not watching this video on YouTube. Why waste precious video gaming time? *sarcasm*
I used to be an addict, but jesus christ video games do nothing but piss me off anymore. They completely suck nowadays and they're just not worth the money.
5) Find something else fun besides games that is fun.

The only people who get addicted to games are people with addictive personalities. I'm playing WoW right now, and play every day. However, I'm 15, it's summer, and I'm in the country so I don't live by friends. If I get the chance to hang out with my friends or gf, I'd get off and go do that. I'm also texting my gf atm and am making plans to go hang out tomorrow, but I still play a few hours a day. I don't view myself as an addict because I simply don't have anything else to do around here. :P

I wake up at 5:30AM from dreams of tactics and violence. I weave through traffic skillfully on my way to Jersey City right before traffic picks up. I play some Pre-market for 2 hours until 9:30. Then I log in to Rediplus and play my favorite game until 4:00pm, plus some After-hours. Then my new friend calls, inviting me to join her in a fun RPG named Jessica; I am pretty far in this particular game. It has been only 3 dates, but I am already getting close to the final boss. To be continued...
I play video games alot and im mostly bored. I need an adventure like i go outside and i know it all so its boring. but when i go on vacation i love going around and exploring, in the winter at my house i go outside with friends. I have lots of friends. I play video games to get a laugh not cuz im depressed or what ever but because im bored like i said. Am i addicted?
1) Get a Job : Find the inner strength to get off your ass
2) Make Friends : Go out and party, develope social skills
3) Get Laid : Trust me my man, you won't be thinking about video games after that
If somehow, you're too much of a b-tch to do that ^
At very least no gaming during daytime, go outside, read, study, do something constructive that relates to your future goals. When nightime comes play for an hour or two, thats it.
@MMA3013 You know actually I tried that and in fact I didn't play at all today. I worked on my artistic skills, wen't outside. and you know what, haven't even played yet. hope I can continue. Oh and about getting laid that's not a priority. But yeah I am suprised how I stumbled upon this after today, very coincidental.
.. nobody wants to stop playing video games in general we just wana know how we slow down and focus on school more without having the craving to go play a game
i know now i have addiction problem, it's mental. It's good to play games until and unless u get addicted.
Don't ask I used to play 18 hours a day since I had nothing to do. But I was worried today if I am addicted to gaming since my mind and body got excited thinking about gaming even at work wanting to play well fifa10.
Now I certainly need to stop it. Sadly, I have to say bye bye to my PS3 but it will be hard I guess.
easy...get some friends, go out to events etc like eating, arcade, shops, town or his house and chill. watch movies etc, and forget about your xbox, if it's nice weather today....go.
Video games are gay, I dont care if you live a 10 hour drive from your next neighbor or town. They're dumb, get a job, get laid and expierience different things in life.
I find getting a job helps alot with VG addiction. personally I only get maybe 1-2 hrs of gametime a day if I'm lucky, but I still might have a gaming binge during the weekend every so often. If you limit your game-time, I find the games are much more enjoyable :)
my sure was selling my xbox getting a wii and a brand new guitar ;) im now grade 5 guitarist, working as a lifegaurd and ive gone from playing over 30 hours a week to around 2 - 5 hours a week
@yohnazo you can start at any age, the only benefit of starting at earlier age is to get a head start on when your hands are full developed, so starting when your 18 is not a bad thing, i have 3 students (my friend takes over after they get to an intermediate level which is around grade 2 to 3 but hes a grade 7) and one of them is 14, i say it doesnt matter if they arent able to pull off certain chords because there hands arent strong enough, its all about how much time a day you play
It's good to hear you can still start learning at a later age and not be too effected, I might learn after uni, then again I might have the time there. Learning would be a great hobby whilst away, and it'd be fun to learn so many songs :)
@yohnazo in all fairness any time is a good time to start its a hobby that you will only do if you want to do it, not that you have to do it which is what gaming is, you can start right now and if you have half an hour just jam to a couple of songs
11 Im in school and I play 7 hours a day typically yes I know its sad but I have quit World of Warcraft because I was starting to become very obese and I started having chest pains one night and I said holy shit this game has taken over my mind o.o so I cancelled my subscription and it felt soooo good to not be playing that game all the time lol.
I i'm addicted i'm 16 but I still do my responsabilities like walking my dog, playing with my dog, I'm trying to start washing my own clothes and cook and I make sure I can help around the house.yet I play alot of video games like sonic, yugioh, mario, digimon.I asked my brother to teach me how to play guitar.I need to reduce or even stop because I want to be in a stable relationship with a girl and I can't do that if I'm playing so much.
@circutracer150 When did you start, I am not asking this to be obnoxious and I am sorry if it sounds like that. I just wan't to be hit in the head about when my responsibilties should have started.
@circutracer150 Well here's the truth I have being hovering more and in fact I do my chores without asking, I thought to myself at my age I should get a job But i was told to by my mother to wait until I get my full education. I've been reading up on rules of the road. A don't worry if I feel like an omelet, I make it myself.
@SonicDarkart Get a job NOW while you have no bills, and can actually start building some savings. Plus, having work history NOW, will seriously boost your credit rating the moment you hit 18. There is NO downside to working now. The experience will greatly benefit you.
I don't play all of the time but I can't stop thinking about games. See, I'm in another state and I'm away from my system. I've taken a big liking to to it (my PS3) and I cannot stop thinking about it. It's causing me some stress. I've only got a week left in this other state, but could someone give me some advice on how to cure my stress, should I say, not an addiction, for the next week? My favorite games are basically action, mainly COD and Adventure. Please help!
@CaptainCromequaz I suggest you start on a hobby, could be anything...From playing board games, exercise, blogging, reading on the subject you like the most, watching movies,..etc...Just find something challenging, and commit to it, in a way that you want to become better on it, not includiing video games. It helps alot. Trust me.....
Remove all friends on xbox live Especially the ones you talk to the most, youll see how fast you break your addiction, xbox is really boring without friends
The best way to beat any addiction that you have no control over is to cut it out completely. But if you do have some control in your daily life then do things in moderation
i love video games. been playing since I was 3. Punch out, Dunk Hunter, Rad Racer, Friday the 13th for Nintendo is what started it all. I will never stop gaming. I can admit, I'm in love with them. I have every single system. I play over 15 hours a day when ever I get a chance. and just because your friends talk about video games doesn't mean their shitty friends. Plus they also come out with bigger and better games. I wouldn't want to do anything else anyways.
This guy is completely missing th issue behind video game, or immersion, addiction. Th real world sux for most teens. Life has no difficulty setting. And depressing teens is easier than selling Uranium to Iran. People escape th real world because its hard or tedious. Real world achievements r far more difficult than linear structured video games. Thes addicts dont realize, and don't want to see, that video games are made easy for instant gratification of your ego. Simply, they gave up on life.
im a 18 year old addict ive done nothing with my life it started when i was in 4th grade and lost all of my best freinds. its like a way of life and ive quit before but whats hard is the depression and not having anything to do with your self or your free time makes it worse because i also have anxiety i dont have a job because of it. im addicted again but i cant seem to get off games and stick to it.
I'd rather play games than watch stupid re-runs on TV. I am 30, been playing for as long as I can remember and I never wanna quit, games are too much fun to give up.
I'm 15, I live as in the middle of nowhere which very few people have actually heard of, the closest town to me is shit, most of my friends live 20-40 minute drive from me. I have very little to do where I live and throughout my life I've tried being nice to people but it's always thrown back in my face to the extent that id don't know whether i'm annoying someone when i'm talking to them or whether what i'll say will have an undesired side affect.
LOL you live in the country right? Why not do what most country people do. Ride a motor bike, ride horses, go paddock bashing in an old car, hell read and book, learn to play a musical instrument, blow shit up or go hunting. There are loads of things you can do. It is just that video games have destroyed your imagination and creativity to think outside the box.
I love video games too but you only live on this planet once, you dont want to waste it all playing games.
@shakybones007 I'm not really a country person which is where that's a bit of a struggle, i'm going to get back into reading seeing as i'm done with school now and all the things like musical instruments and horses cost more in the long term to do and my family isn't particulaly the best off. So you know. I have started working out lately and am getting quite boeed with video games so i'm improving xD.
@PauloPelle14 Dude i live in the middle of nowhere at the same age and there is a lot stuff to do, besides xbox. shooting archerey atving swimming biking playing catch there is a ton of shit to do
@PauloPelle14 Everything will eventually will turn to your favor. Always have a hope on the good things you do and try not to retaliate against people because things are more complicated than it seems. Find something that you like to do, and study that in the future. If you like the game industry, study that and work on what you love. Just find the perfect thing you like to do, and go for it.
This kindof problem is big. The main thing I agree on, is that overdoing it can be bad. But you got to inform the public on this, most Video Game Companies have hours crazier than the player themself. Most Game Developers have a series of health problems while on the job. The problem being is that one, they don't pace themselves, two, have to do a lot at one time, and three, the engines that most of these development companies are using are complete piss poor hogwash.
and, if got friends, you got a work, a girl, and you STILL play 5 or 6 hour a day (but not everyday)... i'm asking, is that a problem? the problem is what i'm reading under this guy, things like "why you need friends if you got games?", "games are better than friends", etc. DUDES, you can have both things, and even more. Just put your own limits.
@1stdegre I think you are thinking of wired controllers. Believe me...I only have wireless and I tried once, there is no way they could connect. Wired works though according to a manual I read.
All this is true, i used to play for like 48 hours every time with little breaks for: food, water, telephone or something interesting on tv. I lost 6 months of my life playin wow at this rate, stopped for like 2 years i played my guitar again, goin to the movies, date and now i have no money, and i needed a rest from a relationship and here i am again playing 30,40hours and then sleep for a day... it's likle meth sideffects: forget thingz, mix up words, stupid dreams... this is not my life! HELP
Whether it's video games or narcotics, addiction occurs when there's no other immediate alternative to make the brain feel good enough. Games could be considered drugs b/c they affect the balance of rewarding feel-good chemicals in the brain. If you're addicted, it's because you don't have any replacement substitutes to make you feel just as good. Games/ drugs are compensatory behaviors. They fill & create voids in the chemical brain. Find new rewarding activities or get so busy you forget.
There is a lot more to do besides gaming..., for example.. go down at the gym, try finding a gf that you can spend your time with or hook up with some male friends and have only men night or w.e, trust a lot of stuff to do besides gaming. Gaming is waste of time, it is only damn pixels :) I hope you can see the point.
I think most people are okay. The only time it becomes a problem is when it starts to negatively impact your life. I play video games a LOT but I've never lost a job/girl/skipped school or anything like that just for video games. I've noticed that video game addiction usually is the symptom of a bigger problem. A lack of social skills forces a lot of people indoors and the most convenient indoor activities are related to electronics. For some I think the real issue is a lack of social skills.
My name is Thelittlebag, and i'm a game addicted. I play around 4 hours a day, with no stops... no relations lost, i just met some guys and girls in the online game that later i found out that they were from my school... xD
17, School, about 48-50 hours a week. I've not lost a relationship but I've gained a few in the past from it. I also work for a couple video game websites, writing reviews and such.
im a 12 year old boy in 7th grade and i play games for about 35 hours a week and i have had 4 girlfriends in the first semester and none of the relationships ended because of the fact i play video games and i don't play games because i'm addicted i play them to relieve stress from school
and ye I'm going back to wow, but I have a plan for not getting addicted and it's named parental control. I set it max 8 hours a day and I have set up 15-60 minutes long breaks every 1-3 hours :P
not going to be to addicted when I get breaks when I need and get loged out automaticly :)
my first of 5 tips is stop buying what that keeps you playing (if it costs to play it).
I was addicted lol, but I quit the most addicting game ever made for 8 months now and still counting. I guess I will never get as addicted as my mate ever again (he used 4 years to quit)
i don't know how to talk with girls

This was my plan to quit gaming:
1) Work on your education.
2) exercise
3) Get a job.
4) Make some non-gamer friends.
5) Find something else fun besides games that is fun.
6) realize that a lot of "good" gamers who spend a lot of time playing are actually nerdy, pathetic losers
after that you'll never want to play games again because you'll realize what a pathetic waste of time gaming is and you'll actually feel good about yourself...i should know...i used to be a gaming addict

I have lots of friends. I play video games to get a laugh not cuz im depressed or what ever but because im bored like i said. Am i addicted?
hitler205 1 year ago
Best advice for video game addiction would be..

But yeah I am suprised how I stumbled upon this after today, very coincidental.

i know now i have addiction problem, it's mental.

People are so stupid!
If a chessmaster plays chess for hours an hours a day he is just training.
If a gamer plays games for hours an hours he has a problem?
Man this whole ''game addiction'' is bullshit.
you can get ''adicted'' to anything aslong as you like it to a point.
So, no games are not bad its the people that cant get a hold of themselfs are bad.

Thanks a lot for letting me know. I probably won't start until 18, which might be a bit late to start, but i'll have too look it up ^^
I guess it's always worth a try if I can :)
yohnazo 1 year ago
@yohnazo you can start at any age, the only benefit of starting at earlier age is to get a head start on when your hands are full developed, so starting when your 18 is not a bad thing, i have 3 students (my friend takes over after they get to an intermediate level which is around grade 2 to 3 but hes a grade 7) and one of them is 14, i say it doesnt matter if they arent able to pull off certain chords because there hands arent strong enough, its all about how much time a day you play
SolarPoweredCheese 1 year ago
@SolarPoweredCheese
It's good to hear you can still start learning at a later age and not be too effected, I might learn after uni, then again I might have the time there. Learning would be a great hobby whilst away, and it'd be fun to learn so many songs :)
yohnazo 1 year ago
@yohnazo in all fairness any time is a good time to start its a hobby that you will only do if you want to do it, not that you have to do it which is what gaming is, you can start right now and if you have half an hour just jam to a couple of songs
SolarPoweredCheese 1 year ago
@SolarPoweredCheese
If I get the money I might pick a guitar up just for when i'm free :)
I can imagine before i've learnt anything just putting on a song and playing randomly and seeing what everyone else in the house thinks :P

SonicDarkart 1 year ago
@SonicDarkart 0_0 you are just now starting to do that stuff? AT 16?!
Kid, I will share some advice my father gave to me, that has helped me throughout my life, to be a self reliant member of society.
You do the hard things yourself because you have to, and because as a man, no one will do them for you.
i.e You do what you must because you have to. Do not depend on others to do it for you.

@circutracer150 When did you start, I am not asking this to be obnoxious and I am sorry if it sounds like that. I just wan't to be hit in the head about when my responsibilties should have started.
SonicDarkart 5 months ago
@SonicDarkart I started daily chores when I was 6, and have held a job since I was 15 (school work permit).
The sooner you start doing that kind of stuff yourself everyday, and making it a part of your routine, the better.
Besides, being that responsible instantly prohibits anyone from bitching at you about playing video games. ^_^
circutracer150 5 months ago
@circutracer150 Well here's the truth I have being hovering more and in fact I do my chores without asking, I thought to myself at my age I should get a job But i was told to by my mother to wait until I get my full education. I've been reading up on rules of the road. A don't worry if I feel like an omelet, I make it myself.

@SonicDarkart Get a job NOW while you have no bills, and can actually start building some savings. Plus, having work history NOW, will seriously boost your credit rating the moment you hit 18. There is NO downside to working now. The experience will greatly benefit you.

i love video games. been playing since I was 3.

When I am not eating, sleeping, etc I am playing a video game! (Pokemon)
At my Training Job, the people don't give me things to do so I have nothing else to do but play games.
While I make my dinner I play a video game.
Before I go to sleep, I play a video game.
HOWEVER! I do not have a problem because I can stop when I want to.
I chart stopping points five to ten minuets ahead. If I extend the time it stops within a 30 minute basis. So there.

You can see how I'm addicted to Xbox xD.

@PauloPelle14
I love video games too but you only live on this planet once, you dont want to waste it all playing games.
shakybones007 1 year ago
@shakybones007 I'm not really a country person which is where that's a bit of a struggle, i'm going to get back into reading seeing as i'm done with school now and all the things like musical instruments and horses cost more in the long term to do and my family isn't particulaly the best off. So you know. I have started working out lately and am getting quite boeed with video games so i'm improving xD.
