After watching this, I SOOOO want to give them some haircuts, LOL! But, I just LOVE them! This song has always been uplifting and made me so happy :) Tx Osmonds!!
Wow thanks for sharing this Lyn. Merrill is absolutely gorgeous here! He has the greatest voice. Have you heard, "The Anchor Holds"? His gospel album is wonderful.
Are you SURE this was on the D&M Show? Because if it was, it was a clip they must've showed from an earlier performance, as I'm pretty sure it was filmed before 1976. Plus the stage setting is all wrong. Anyway, it was wonderful to see just the same. Thanks for sharing it. :o)
Brilliant, brillant song. But then in my opinion, everytrhing the Osmonds did was brilliant. How could anyone say they were talentless? The had it in spades.
@imzadiana Last track on The Plan album, if you aint got this album you just should get it, shows they were not just teeny bop fodder for pre pubescent girlies
The brothers alone had more #1's & top 40's in the USA then lets say Elton John & others in the 70's & alot was hard Rock but they are never played on radio as some groups & singers who had only 1 #1 hit.
The whole song is about returning back to Heavenly Father (From the Osmonds "The Plan"). They say "Don't take it too easy," because you have to fight to return home and not take it easy.
Yep. Have Hold Her Tight as txt msg. and Lazy River is my ringtone. Even my 21yr old son reckons they should kept to their rock music !!!! Talent will always shine through. And boy they had enuff talent.......thanks for the posting...
With hindsight, I really think the older boys should have squashed the Donny hype when it began. They were so awesome and the kinda got lost and The Osmonds disappered under. And this from a committed DonnysGirl. Gotta love The Osmonds.
agreed 'glcfordco' it is such a shame that all that talent went to waste playing second fiddle to Donny and Marie - they deserved better. And you know they just would have made great rock stars and their rock music would have been AWESOME - Crazy Horses and Hold Her Tight are just great examples of what could have been.
I totally agree! I too favored Donny back then but I realize now what D&M did to the brothers! I think they have come full circle now and the whole family is receiving the praise they all should have back then when that happened!!
Yeah, but the family had the motto, as long as it was an Osmond out in the front, it didn't matter, so they went with it. Their manager pushed it too. Plus by the time the TV offer came for the D&M show, most of the guys were married and wanted to stick close to home and raise their children and be with their wives, so it was a calculated decision.
Yes I have decided IF the older Bros had "wanted" it as much as Donny they should have carried on writing etc. Donny has proved He WANTED to carry on and did...it wasnt ALL an easy ride for Him, was it. But He kept going and won through YAY....
Yea, i agree- if they really wanted to, they would have pursued it. they've accomplished pretty much whatever they wanted to, even at unbelieveable odds.
@glcfordco I totally agree, as much as I love all of the osmonds, donny, marie and jimmy sole the limelight. from the older bros....I think merrill was underated as a singer and donny was overated, sorry donny fans
@pattyken1 as much as I think Merrill and The Osmonds as a group do not get the credit they deserve I have never thought Donny was over rated.....infact as a Donny fan I still feel He gets flak for no other reason than for being Donny ! I love The Osmonds, I LOVE Merrills voice.....I LOVE Donny..............
@pattyken1 Thanks.....and I do wish The Brothers had carried on writing and performing whilst D&M were off doing their show in the 70s..... THAT would have been awesome!
@glcfordco yeah I wish they had,I always liked there music, but Im just realizing now (30plus years later) lol....how good they really were and still of course :)
@glcfordco I agree. I am a big Donny fan but with all the Donny crazy going on the brothers side got put on the back burner. I even heard Donny say that the worst thing that could of happened to them was the Donny and Marie show. Unfortunately when you are signed with a record company the company calls most of the shots. They really wanted to do songs like Crazy Horse, Hold Her Tight, etc. They are so very talented. Love them all.
@titansful the daft thing is Donny is the first to admit as a 16/17yr old BOY He wanted to record stuff like Hold Her Tight etc, but as you said, the record company pull the strings.... they gave Him the romantic ballads they knew WE wanted to hear Him sing.
Oh spilt milk....we will always HAVE those songs... The Osmonds do have a place in the hisotry books of the pop world...no one can take that away.
@glcfordco As the years go bye, there will be more credit given to the talent of The Osmond Brothers. Rolling Stones regularly puts out books on the history of Rock, and they do mention the Osmonds and their place in music. They write that the Brothers were better than given credit for. Very nice to see. I was at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this past weekend, and hopefuly some day there will at least be mention of The Brothers. They are certainly deserving!!!
@glcfordco Not saying I disagree, but just wondering exactly HOW they were supposed to do that? The family motto thing was "any Osmond on top, as long as it's an Osmond." And if the movie was accurate (that Jimmy helped produce, if that gives any credibility), it was decided by their father to do the Donny & Marie show, and the children weren't portrayed as being all that keen to do it. I do wonder why the older boys couldn't have gone their own way with their band, to do more serious stuff.
Also, the record companies knew they were going to rake in tons off of all the little Donny screamers, so of course they were going to crank out as much of that as they could. I always thought that the Osmond Brothers had tremendous talent as a rock and roll band. They proved on many of their songs that they could flat out rock. Shame they weren't given more rein to go for it. The dichotomy of Donny&Marie, WE loved it, but it didn't help their reputation as serious musicians. :-(
@Cheryl1166 I really do think we ALL agree on that point. As much as I was a "little Donny screamer" (and still love Him)..... I do think the manager did not stretch either The Osmonds as a band or guide the young teenage Donny into an adult career....Donny did that Himself later
@glcfordco (fellow Donny screamer, lol) I'm really glad that Donny was able to turn things around for himself, considering what he was up against. I'm so glad he came out standing after the smoke cleared, from what he went through emotionally for awhile, also. I'm glad that the Osmonds are all still around, not just as part of the nostalgia circuit, but after all these years they are still out there actively performing and putting out new material! It's wonderful! :-)
@Cheryl1166 yes it is.....I was lucky enough to go to Vegas this year and see The D&M Show.its fantastic ! I have friends going to out in Oct to see The Osmonds and D&M.....
I have ppl teasing me about 'living in the 70s' but NO..... I still think The Osmonds are GREAT.......
I really love this video because it has a good beat to it and the guys are dressed really nice, always have noticed that they wore a lot of white , I really like the jumpsuits they had on in The Down by the Lazy River video.
Merrill could take me 'home' anyday.Ahhh Those tight white trousers, the naughty thoughts are here again, need another hose down turn the water on g/f lol.

The Osmonds alway seem to have so much fun when performing. Those big cheesy smiles and happy stomping just makes you want to join in with the fun. I know I do that sometimes the music is so loud I miss the door bell or phone (happened a few times now)oops.
