Since 07 I've been checking out straight to DVD horror movies and I gotta say there are actually ones that are better than the ones you see in the theater. Some of the limited releases like Midnight meat train are really good. If you're a horror fan you should start looking films other than the theaters. Trick 'r treat Eden lake. There's some good ones out there. Innkeepers by this director is coming this year.

Definitely a throwback to those 70's and 80's joints. All things mentioned in terms of the suspense, the atmosphere, and the pace blend well here. Ti West is truly a student of the horror genre. I recommend The Innkeepers as well.

I love the premise, the vibe, the ambiance of the movie. The production was great, but I can't believe how SLOW the movie was. YES it builds SUSPENSE (believe me) but I was like looking at the time and was like "Where the fuck is the Devil, the killer, a ghost or something?". It gave me chills, and chills it is. The whole movie was about how clumsy & jumpy the girl was. The twist in the end was predictable , hence the title "House of the DEVIL". But ALL in ALL, it was good.

As with any other great horror film, you can just TELL the characters are terrified, and the actors make it SO believeable that you feel just as terrified. This isn't the torture porn you'd expect from the Saw franchise (thank god), this is HORROR. The slow build-up and the suspense is just perfect. Fantastic movie.
