  • I thought the Stargazer had that LSD effect when it went to warp?

  • We're looking at pure sci-ci excellence.

  • Super animation! It is amazing that one guy with a computer can make better special effects than Hollywood could when Star Trek first came out. Bravo!

  • I always found the episode "the battle" a little fishy. How does a Ferengi get to be damon of a starship and still have that kind of emotional attachment to his son? You would think he would have been more upset at the loss of the ship and its cargo then his son.

  • No knock on your vid. Stargazer should have kicked butt! No reason to not detect the Ferengi ship sooner and 4 warp nacelles, two impulse decks. Come on! Stargazer should have had power to spare. Then again, it was Picard. Probably having some Earl Grey, Irish version.

  • Propane leak on the bridge, all hands abandon ship!

  • Pretty damn good FX,

  • This ship had to be getting close to being decommissioned prior to this.

  • Awesome clip man, congratulations. If you may speak, the surpeise atacka on Stargazer form Ferengi Ship must be more quicl, more fast, to configure a surprise. The time is little too slow to configure it. Except that, everything is fine

  • 0:01 "THE BATTE OF MAXIA"

    XD

  • hang on was that science vessel U.S.S. BOB?

  • @Combatdude no sorry NCC 808 :P

  • I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the movie era ship designs, especially the Miranda, Constituion refit, and Constellation class, are the best. Great work.

  • Dumpass Ferengi.

  • Is it just me or did people first think the ship at 7:59 was called the NCC-BOB ....i thought BOB is a bit of a weird name for a starship, and then i remembered that a ships registry would end in numbers so its probably NCC-808.

But i think i want the ship to be called BOB anyway Lmfao!!!!

  • @VideoSpaceFX, I am not trying to give you crap. It's just that the manoeuvre wouldn't been cooler if the captain hadn't lost the ship.

  • @djmarkski2000

Yes the damage seemed light even in the episode "The Battle". Maybe it was radiation or something. They stated the ship suffered considerable internal fire damage. Maybe someone left the grill on during the battle? :)

  • I don't really personally know any trekkers/trekkies. :( FML

  • WOW!!! why dont you work at I.L.M.

  • Picard Manoeuvre = abandon ship?

  • @VideoSpaceFX Ok, but the captain still got caught with his pants (shields) down. That's an expensive piece of equipment that the captain lost.

  • @djmarkski2000 The Picard manoeuvre is to do a tiny warp jump inside a star system, the enemy losses sight of you and you blink almost instantly closer to them with a perfect fix on their position to open up with a full on assault. Usually warp drive is only initiated when you have plotted an interstellar course that heads outside of a solar system.

It's basically an iWIN button that runs the risk of you warping into a planet if you get the timings wrong.

  • @SardonicALLY I'm not saying that it's not a cool move, however, in the 23rd or 24th century shouldn't the targeting system be good enough to track the target? Shouldn't it only fool a human and not the targeting computer?

  • @djmarkski2000

Yes there are things about it that don't make sense. At the distance shown here, a jump of say 3km, at the real speed of light the second ship would disappear within 1 / 100 000th of a second! It's probably a good move by way of suprising the enemy.

  • @djmarkski2000 well he IS french, soooo.....

  • @simpsonfan13 lol

  • @djmarkski2000 No his maneuver was coming up on the ferengi vessel at full warp giving the appearance of being in two places at once instantly comfusing the ferengi

  • I think it would've been even cooler if you had actually included clips from the actual episode, when Picard was on the Stargazer "reliving" the battle.

  • To boldy geek where nobody has geeked before...

  • Why do you call it expansion of the Federation? I don't think you are aware in Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek, there were no exploits, the humans had developed a peaceful political system, solved the problems of greed and domination and everybody joined the Federation out of advantages or peace an progress. You are talking it like they were some malevolent empire.and war was inevitable.

  • @mrteemumilto

What you're saying applies to within the Federation, or in particular the society on Earth, life on a far flung colony would probably be a little tougher. If the Federation expands through colonisation of suitable planets or other races joining, why wouldn't other powers consider that threatening, even if it's not. It's not like they were expanding by occupation or annexation.

  • @VideoSpaceFX Because they had overgrown petty domination, selfish, unilateral pretextes in order to gain supreme control. That was one of the fine qualities of TNG. Even Klingons didn't see it as threatening, because the Federation learned to respect their ways, Picard's Klingon skills. Humans aren't in the leading position in an Earth-centric manner, they just happened to be in that position to encourage, liberate and enlighten the other races. You assume the cynical postmodern.

  • @VideoSpaceFX Your idea of ideological domination is not deserved by Gene Roddenberry. I am a fan of Star Trek as is used to be before he died. To empower and to enlighten; the true leader doesn't force his subordinates but helps them to attain better opportunities in a way that is also socially benevolent; the ideal society works as to empower the individuals, so that they would be able to form a treaty and membership with other individuals as individuals. I am fan of the idea

  • This is bad ass! Nice work!

  • Why not just do what they did in star trek enterprise and tow the stargazer into federation space with the distress call coming from the ship itself, they would have been found quicker

  • 5:12 Rapid fire photon torpedo launcher. Ah yeah!

  • The Unknown Vessel was A Ferengi Smuggling Vessel it opened Fire on the U.S.S. Stargazer probably to Disable and Aquire the Vessel for the Ferengi Rules of Aquisition probably Demanded it back then i don't know im just guessing with the rest of them

  • Very nice, indeed! :) Good visuals and sound editing! :)

  • One of the best 3D space model battles that I have seen in a long time.

  • By far one of the best, if not the best animations on star trek out on YouTube, fantastic, we all appreciate your fine work, thanks....

    And please do more ;)

    Adam

  • Nice, this animation with Picards description would have been a great adition to the episode. Thanks for this animation is great and gives new perspective on the battle.

  • One of Bedford Falls' finest ship.

  • Excellent!

  • Who wants a Plastic Kit of the Stargazer please press "Like"!

  • @Lee78072

Federation Models do a 1/1000 resin kit for 80 dollars/60 euros.

  • How do they avoid asteroid damage when traveling at warp speeds? Shields?

  • @AntiIgnorantDimwit Because they're never traveling faster than impulse limits (speed of light limits). Warp drives _warp_ space around the vessel, making 2x distance the equivalent of 1/2 distance, for example. Manuevering shields would work just as well at warp 1 as at warp 27.

  • @megadeathx Actually, AFAIK, how warp drive works was never explicitly explained in any canon media. Scientists have recently discovered that it's possible to accelerate beyond the accepted speed of light by changing the speed of light. They accomplish this by warping time, not space. Without any canon explanation, real science generally falls into place, like how electricity still works the same way.

  • @venusbrain you... are shitting me is that true if so than something like warp drive is a possibility

  • @AntiIgnorantDimwit the deflector emits a field that polarizes the hull, even when the shields r off the hull is slightly polarized...

  • @AntiIgnorantDimwit Asteroids are actually very far apart, so it's not terribly difficult to navigate around them. They also generally don't even enter a star system unless it's their destination, so they can decelerate to manageable speeds. The voids between stars range from about 2,365,132,100,000 KM to 94,605,284,000,000 KM. That's pretty easy to miss.

  • @venusbrain

I think the point is that the design doesn't have a deflector so even miniscule particles of space dust would cause damage at such great speeds. But it's not the only ship that doesn't so maybe the whole hull acts as a deflector, a bit like old mobile phones had an aerial poking out but now it's seamless within the case.

  • 4:59 i love that torpedo

  • Outstanding work -- very cinematic and for the most part, well lit and rendered!! Much enjoyed!!

  • Is it just me but does the Ferenghi ship look a hell of a lot more advanced!

  • Well done!

  • Thumbs up for the video though, it was really cool.

  • the video was cool. i am not going to diss on this man's good work. it's excellent. i'm just going to comment on how in all the years of faster than light travel until picard came along nobody had came up with a strategy that could essentially be called "Giving it the gas". Explanation aside from the dual light images, the maneuver is basically just putting it to the floor and stopping before they fix on you to shoot them. Although detecting gas faster than light as a counter is even more lame.

  • @Fektthis I personally think the maneuver wasn't used before simply because it has been stated that pretty much every race used sensors that would detect such a maneuver and would have their targeting systems track the actual ship instead of the light ghost. The unknown ship they encountered showed signs that their sensor didn't track object moving at warp, so suddenly seeing 2 ships would work. On that note, "detecting gas moving faster than light" was pretty weak.

  • @BFGfreak

Yes the manoeuvre is "slowed down" here to emphasise the effect. It was done even more so in the episode "The Battle". Even at a distance of the moon from the earth the light would catch up after one second, and the ship in the episode appears in two places for ages even though it has moved only about 1km in the warp jump judging from the view.

  • Anyway most ST battles are portrayed for entertainment purposes, I mean ships are always a few hundred metres away from each other when firing which seems odd since we have missiles today that can travel thousands of miles to their target. Maybe it's to prevent an easy target lock or evasion by the target ship?

  • Really nice work. This was really entertaining. Although one thing I must point out is that the Trek novels are not considered cannon, so any details that are not given by the original episode, while great for filling the holes, are actually not true in the context of the series. But I won't let that stop me from enjoying this. Again, good work.

  • @sfs2040

Yes I agree novels are not canon in a strict sense but I can treat them as canon if they don't conflict with anything established in the series or films.

  • @VideoSpaceFX

I agree. It's the best we got.

I just hate it when people use the event from the novels in canonical discussions. Novels cannot apply there.

But in something like this it;s totally fine.

  • paramount should do what george lucas does. Consider everything canon. lol

  • @MrHoppers002

That is ok if you bring in alternate realities, but surely it's a bit confusing.

  • Nicely done! Obviously, the haters are trolls "who can do much better"...or just whine, since they were forced to click your link with a gun pointed to their heads.

  • retarded simple as that

  • @banditt18 Are you speaking from experience, or because you have no other punitively dismissive term in your limited vocabulary?

Try stringing together a cohesive reply (points if you can find a dictionary that has more words than Elmo's ABC's) that will be ignored, jackass.

  • I borrowed a bit of your fine film to make a mash up of Flawless by The Ones, hope that's cool

  • this is unclear it goes on forever. at what time is the menoure utilized?

  • @LiberalsUtopian watch ST: TNG episode 'The Battle' Season 1 to find out. Picard used a short warp jump to make the Stargazer seem to appear in two places at one time, and the enemy fired on the previous version.

  • @LiberalsUtopian

    4:58 is the manoeuvre.

  • @VideoSpaceFX Way to answer the question "Batte" boy

  • which spaceship did the manuvore?

  • At some points it looked exactly like TNG rendering! Great job!

  • Nice on my way to check out your channel.

  • Very well done, this just adds to the episode "the battle" as a die hard star trek fan, i thank you. Now off to see the rest of your videos ^_^

  • sweet animation, another storyline which would have made a good episode even better. nice work.

  • Captain's Log, Supplemental:

We are forced to abandon our starship. May she find her way home without us.

  • It was, in fact an unprovoked attack on Stargazer.

  • very great Job :) any more strange ones missing ?? all the better warp 9.85 0/

  • Nice rendering. Though wasn't the point of the Picard Maneuver that the Stargazer would appear to be in two places at once?

  • @VideoSpaceFX

I see. I missed the Stargazer in the background in that shot.

  • @VideoSpaceFX you should make a video of the nx-class enterprise in batter

  • @littlebigtangelo Battered enterprise? :D

  • @MrDeadInMyPocket Check out 4:55 it's there

  • @MrKellG

Yeah VideoSpaceFX1 pointed that out to me, thanks though. I missed it.

  • @MrDeadInMyPocket it is shown to be in 2 places, look again it's quick

  • The Stargazer was always a neat looking craft. Well done again!

  • Ewww! 7 long weeks in a shuttle, which is basically like a small room, with god knows how many people. Hopefully they can just beam the poop out of you! ;)

  • @Tanru2000

Presumably there is a 24th century toilet onboard...

  • @VideoSpaceFX Maybe under the pilot's seat? I just don't recall one in Star Trek 5! :D Although there WAS one in the brig. :)

  • @VideoSpaceFX

"Don't people in the 24th century ever pee?!"

    Zephran Cochrane.

  • @VideoSpaceFX no, for budgetary reasons, starfleet installed airplane toilets from the 1950s in their shuttles... :-D

  • @Tanru2000 That's why there were no bathrooms on enterprise. They have no idea even how to use shit paper in the future!

  • @Tanru2000 What if they use replicator to recycle? (Shudder)

  • Thank you for keeping the dream alive: the Star Trek dream!

  • I don't think Picard had a command for nine years after this. SF looked down on Captains that lost their ships I guess. I think a certain lawyer was responsible too.

  • @Thor13332 It seems unlikely that Picard would go from nine years of no command to a new state of the art Galaxy class ship. Also Picard got a new ship (the Enterprise-E) less than a year after the loss of the Enterprise-D. Sisko got a new Defiant even quicker after losing the old one.

  • @toddsmitts

According to Memory Beta he went through various assignments while considering if starship command was really for him and he also studied Archeology for a time, perhaps meeting Prof Richard Galen there.

  • @toddsmitts Yeah a Defiant is a hell of a lot smaller than a Sovereign class star ship so it wouldn't take as much time fo the Defiant to be made. You think they would go back to the runabout.

  • @LordHannigan the enterprise e was realy the uss hounarable

  • well done and very much worth the watch

  • Kool!! This great to see the story...Great job

  • I'm speechless. VERY good renderings of all the ships and the Maxia Zeta system. You even threw in a score remininscent of the early days of Star Trek The Next Generation. Some crew and bridge scene renderings would've been nice, but I have to agree with another commentator on here; better than anything Paramount ever came up with!

  • your version of the picard-maneuver was good, but i noticed a small mistake:

after the stargaze jumped to warp, the following "picture" should have shown the glowing warp-nacelles and the jump itself, not just a disappearing ship

sorry for mistakes, eng is not my native language

  • As I recall from the episode, either TAsha or Data read off a list of Stargazer's damage, and I remember thinking " They abandoned ship because of THAT?" Haven't seen the ep in years so I dont remember the specifics.

  • very nice, that was awesome. i like how it seemed like the shows, even down to the sound effects. also extremely nice job on the detail of the models.

  • Question...if Starfleet ships have something similar to transponders, how come they never went back and retrieved the Stargazer. Seeing as her supersturture and such were still in good shape...I don't know...Starfleet seems kinda retarded sometimes.

  • @hammerman6842

Well it happens at 8:00. According to the novel The Buried Age, the Stargazer's self-destruct was inoperative and Picard set it on a decaying orbit of a gas giant to destroy the hardware, however Daimon Bok retrieved the ship before it burnt up.

  • @VideoSpaceFX So Bok was able to disable the Transponder and hide the ship for all that time?

  • VERY Impressive!!! You are an incredible VSFX!

  • The part without St legacy I mean.

  • @spock4450

I didn't use any games to make this it was all 3D modelling and post-production software.

  • How did u do this?

  • Nicely made, but the original design of the Stargazer is really ugly. It looked just as it did in the episode; like it was made of spare model kit parts.

But none of these nits are a smear on the visual effects rendered here; they're beautiful.

  • I never knew startrek could be so boring.

  • If the danger was only the uncontrollable fires aboard ship, and the shuttlecraft were fine to stay in. Then what should have been done is to get inside the shuttles (either exit the ship or stay inside), vent all air from Stargazer, and then re-pressurize the ship when the fires are under control.

  • @djargus A fire on a spaceship is a greater danger than a fire in your house (look up Apollo 1). Also, the ships life support system was failing, Meaning the ship would have been incapable of supporting life without the ability to repair it. In light of this, Picards choice to abandone ship and head back to explored Federation space was the correct one.

  • @pacetti07 But they had plenty of time to exit the ship in shuttlecraft. Unless all the engineers are dead, then they could have exited Stargazer and vented the air. After the fires were out, they could have gone back in using pressure suits and repaired the life support (if it was failing, the only thing we were sure of that was was the fire suppression system was down). It would have been alot safer to limp home in Stargazer than defenseless shuttlecraft.

  • @djargus Picard didn't just have to base his deicision on an engineering standpoint, but also a tacticale one. They didn't know if the attacking ship was alone, or part of a larger fleet. Also, the ship was unable to fight (as you pointed out) without extensive repairs. Picard decieded that it would be best to save the crew instead of staying with the ship, and maybe getting the crew captured or killed if more attackers showed up.

  • Absolutely marvelous!

  • Picard was surprised for an inferior enemy, he showed absolute incompetence for the Starship captain position. Even he was best as a diplomatic than an acting commander of a starship. Under my command he was fired inmediatly for lost a ship under favourable conditions.

  • You folks managed to make a ship that I considered hideous in TNG look pretty good. Well done! I still think 4 nacelles is pointless though, and that applies to all ships with 4 nacelles, including those in the new 2009 movie.

  • bloody ferengi's XD

    this was awesome btw :)

  • this sucked

  • seing the "StarGazer" She looked like she was survivable. As a former Navy engineer, I would not have abandonded my ship. Forom the looks of her, she could have been brought home. =Stefan=

  • @chengloki

Yes, to be honest I was thinking the same thing making this. But I had to allow for the fact that in the episode were the Stargazer is re-discovered she looked fine on the outside and also I couldn't do serious, deep damage to the ship model at this time.

  • @VideoSpaceFX There's a model of the "Star Gazer"??? I missed that. Besides, remember that Bok had restored the Star Gazer. Not any profit in that. You should see my model of the Alpha. It was a pain working the fiber optics, But worth it. I can control the light pattern with the " light box". (Oh, if you wan't to work with fiber optics, wear latex gloves). I found out the hard way. LOL. (Damn, did that itch)!!! =Stefan=

  • @VideoSpaceFX Though if they did have catastrophic fire that couldn't be stopped safe bet would be abandon the ship in hopes that the wreck would be salvaged later (well it was...).

  • @chengloki I guess immediate salvagability depends on what was going on in the interior. If there was a massive radiation leak, they'd be forced to abandon ship regardless of the state of the hull. And since they were outside Federation territory, it would take a long time before a rescue ship arrives.

So the choice would be stay alongside the ship in defenseless shuttles and escape pods in an area with hostiles, or return without the ship.

The real fail was not setting the self destruct.

  • @winningHerring I tip my hat to you.I did not think of that. I was just looking at the physical appearance. Good call. =Stefan=

  • @chengloki Well, in the storyline of the show, there was a fire on the bridge, and they had to abandon ship. Presumably there was severe internal damage. Also, ships in Trek are, well, stupidly designed. Beautiful, but stupid. The bridge up on the top of the hull for all to see, the reliance on the single computer core, among other things. It doesn't take much damage to meutralize one of those.

  • @QuiteWellAdjusted I have to agree with you on the design of Star Fleet vessels. Especially the capital ships. The primary hull only was equipped with impulse drive, but had explosive bolts to seperate from the 2ndary hull in times of emergency. It was supposed to be a life boat. In a drastic situation, here's the "life boat", with command staff , WITH OUT WARP DRIVE!! The Dreadnought class had alleviated this problem. (Ref orig Star fleet Tech Man). =Stefan=

  • @chengloki I doubt you were an engineer on the USS Stargazer, so there may have been an internal problem that corrected itself.

  • @chengloki okay fair enough but one little thing, on your ship, your in the ocean on earth where theres air. in space however, there is no air and with life support failing, how would you breathe?

  • @dambust232 They must have had emergency hard suits equipped with rebreathers. Engineers could have sealed up compartments, and brought life support back up. It would have been uncomfortable, but survivable. Then the drive could be be repaired. The ship could have been brought home. Next question??? =Stefan=

  • @chengloki okay but how many did you have for your ship? on a ship like the stargazer there would be around a crew complement of 400. emergency suits (if they had them) would be in a limited number so the other 300 would do what? hold theyre breath? plus the ship was in emeny space and the captain had the option of saving the crew or saving the ship. which would you put as more important?

  • @dambust232 Every ship that I have been on had a survival suit for each man aboard. Would Star Fleet be any different?? As for saving the ship, without the ship, survival is NILL!! Some may survive, but the majority would not. You're best chance is to keep your ship alive. I've been there. And we did it!!!=Stefan=

  • It was really a pleasure to watch this video. Thanks for your great work! And the music of the early TNG-Era is awesome. :) 5*

  • Outstanding job.

  • About the only gripes I have is the lack of Picard and Stargazer crew, and that there's no oral dialogue. Other than that...

Holy shit. You definitely made something worth watching. You brought the Battle of Maxia to life, VideoSpaceFX. Well done. Have you ever considered doing the Battle of Wolf 359?

  • @ZGMFX28ANuLiberty Thanks. Of course live action scenes would have been amazing, if only i could! As for Wolf 359 I made some videos you can see on my channel.

  • @VideoSpaceFX I saw them...God, man! You need to finish it! It looked awesome! And this comes from a man who has spent 1/32 of his life obsessing over Wolf 359: ships, personnel, possible methods of destruction xD

  • Dude this is epic!!!!! I am subbing and fav'ing. Then off to watch another of ure vids. BTW what software do u use?

  • @VocalIntuition 3DS Max for 3D stuff and various others

  • What class starship is the Zhao? I don't think I've ever seen a configuration like that.

  • @Xonx68 Oberth class - Schmidt variant deisgned by Xfozzboute. He has made about 6 different variants of the Oberth.

  • "NCC-BOB"?

  • @Xonx68

    No "NCC-808"

  • Actually this depiction showcases Picard at his finest, sitting around taking hits and not doing anything about it. I wonder how many times he hailed and said, "We come in peace" and my favorite, "We surrender."

  • GRATE !!!!MORE

  • Something I just thought about after seeing "The Battle" a dozen times since 1987. Why didn't Picard set the auto-destruct before leaving the Stargazer? The ship eventually fell into the hands of what could be considered a "hostile power" which is exactly why the auto-destruct is there.

  • @jtkirkfan2002 That's true, perhaps it was off-line. I believe there is a novel that deals with these events and it says the ship was put onto a course where it would have burn't up in a gas giant after the battle had taken place.

  • Another great video!

  • To many establishing shots...

  • I was about to complain that in the counterattack you didn't have the Stargazer fire torpedoes, and then suddenly PEWPEWPEWPEWPEW!!!

  • I just saw the episode "The battle" and I love how some of the details are in here! Like how Picard says the Ferengi ship was hiding on the moon, the Stargazer using six torpedoes to wreck the Ferengi, and the shuttles being used as escape pods( "We limped through space for weeks in shuttlecraft" according to Picard). Also, this is the first star trek video I've seen on youtube with appropriate music! Excellent job, A like from me, and I'm suscribing to you!

  • Nicely done and it makes me really happy to see my Zhao being used in an animation as good as this. I'm really surprised at how good it did turn out being so low-poly. I keep thinking or doing those ships again in much more accurate and higher poly versions.

  • This is a blender animation??!! IT LOOKS SO COOL!

  • This looks Fantastic! Just like it was in a Movie!

  • GREAT vid, I'd give you five stars, but... ah well, a single "like"'s got to do XD One little thing though: Even though it looks absolutely cool - a Constellation class ship would never be able to fire torpedoes at such an enormous rate. Well... maybe if they had Scotty aboard tinkering with the launchers... :-P

  • nice looks great

  • I'm sure someone else mentioned it earlier....but where's the Picard maneuver? Nevertheless....probably the sexiest SFX I've seen done. The battle of Narendra III was outstanding.

  • @KakashiBallZ

Thanks. Actually no-one has mentioned it because at 4:54 we have... the Picard Manoeuvre.
