this is about the only REAL british aircraft that outdoes all the others, even in america, and I am glad to see it fly. The likes of this plane are not found anywhere in the world.
Fantastic to see the RAF's last truly BIG HITTER flying again!! What a beautiful looking machine the Vulcan is with that delta wing. Now somebody in the UK PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE restore a Mosquito to airworthy condition!! Thanks for posting!
In whoose opinion?? Yours? So you must be right then? The Mosquito is actually MORE interesting because of it's service record. Constructed predominantly from wood, extremely fast, handled like a fighter, it performed EVERY key role from tactical bomber, fighter bomber, nightfighter, anti-shipping, photo recon etc etc. No other aircraft in WW2 comes close to the Mosquito, it was a multi-role aircraft par excellence. Not as interesting? I beg to differ as many others probably would.
If the mozzie was so interesting then why has it not been returned to airworthy state? Because the VULCAN IS BETTER! It defended us against the russians. It handles like a fighter jet. It took part in the 2nd longest bombing raid. "Black Buck". No other aircraft of all time come as close as the vulan. The howl it makes on takeoff is amazing and people love the vulcan. Its the people's aircraft. Type Vulcan to the sky into internet. Long live Avro Vulcan XH558.
There WAS an airworthy Mosquito-it crashed at Barton airfield during a display circa 1996/7. Apparently there is a project in New Zealand to make another Mozzie airworthy. Ironically, the Mosquito was far more accurate on it's bombing missions than the Vulcan was. The Vulcan raid on Stanley airfield actually did minimal damage to the runway-it only scored a couple of hits. If you want to know about accuracy, go & research the Amiens Prison raid in 1944, or the Phllips Radio factory in Holland.
i agree the wooden wonder is one of the few aircraft that was a jack of all trades and master of them all, so many were jack of all trades and master of none. how can we not have an airworthy example of such an important aircraft, its great to have a Vulcan flying but so many more need to have the same treatment. the EE Lightning for one.
Whatever-opinions are like arseholes-everyone has one. If that is what you think then fine, but don't bother me with YOUR opinion, which is entirely subjective, and based I suspect predominantly on ignorance. Cheerio! :)
I cant decide which is my favourite bomber, The lancaster or the vulcan, Maybe i will choose both, The lancaster is my favourite piston engine bomber and the vulcan my favourite jet engine bomber,
great stuff... cheers ;-)... quite a steep climb... I remember seeing her at BAE Woodford I think it was 1991... she took to the air and seemed to climb nearly vertically... ahhh happy days ;-D
Does anyone know if Britain will ever build a big bomber again. I no the answer but i can't accept it, if you've heard anything different tell me please.
Bombers are expensive, risky, and outdated, and it's much cheaper - and less costly in lives (for the firer), too - to just launch cruise missiles instead. Same thing, doesn't endanger personnel so much.
Correction: My vid was taken at Duxford, went to Farnborough too you see, had a tour around the A380! How the hell does it get off the ground, its HUGE!!!
Brilliant! I remember, when a small girl, seeing the Vulcan flying near my mum and dad's house. I was transfixed THEN and have been dying to see it again! Not managed to see it at at airshow this year unfortunately but next year I definitely will! I bet it's SOOO loud!!! Great camera work by the way! Check out my vid at Farnborough this year, inferior quality compared to yours! Luv, Gill (a female aviation fan and not a lesbian!)
The sound of what I know as the 'Vulcan Howl' just after her wheels started to roll, brought goose-bumps to my skin and the hair on the back of my neck stood on end. I have missed this plane so damn much ;-)
i think the vulcan is one of the few striking things we see in the sky... theres the F22, F117, B2, and B1 along with it, but definitely the vulcan is my favvvv
Hi... Did anyone take filming of XH855 in the sky on thursday... she was playing in the air & showing off all that she can do... Shes so impressive! thanks....
An amazing site. The roar of those engines, has made me well up...Fantastic achievement to all involved..An E/E Lightning in flight is now needed...Congratulations....
I live near Waddington and it was just fabulous to see this magnificent plane back home with us! I remember them from when i was a kid when they were a common site over my house! Great video, nice to see where she's lived for all these years!
CONGRATULATIONS Vulcan To The Sky!! I knew it would be just a matter of time before XH558 would be back in her element again. Lets hope we can keep people donating to VTST to help keep her up there! Im going to RIAT at Fairford this year so i'll be seeing her there.Just imagine how many vids there are gonna be of this beautiful plane added to this site. Theyre gonna be added thick and fast. Thank you to everyone who has donated to VTST to help get her up into the sky. again. Where she Belongs
I'm going to see her at RIAT and Farnborough hopefully, well done to all that made it possible. Lets hope they'll do something simular with Concorde one day now that the "Vulcan To The Skies" team have showed that with a lot of patience, determination and hard work, it can be done. Good work guys.
just superb wish i could see her today but an 8 hour round trip is a bit much, will have to wait til farnbrough in a couple of weeks. Can't wait to see a Vulcan in the flesh, at last.
It flys of the ground then blows up. That would be so win.

Almost certainly not for the next 30 years or so.

It's sad really, I mean think of the exploits of Bomber command in WW2.

they lost over 50,000 brave crew, surely UAV tech and guided cruise missiles are the way to go.

I remember when a young child in the long summer months we had, laying in the back garden looking up at the clouds, there would be about 6 or 7 of us,
we would try to make shapes out of the clouds, faces, monsters etc,
every time we did this we would always see a vulcan way up high pass over heading towards scampton, such memories,,,
proud to be british!
