  • Pce out guys ima be a doctor. 10 Years later... You a doctor yet? nope......

  • Harvard Medical:)

  • wow a lot of sturding...

  • what if i like science but not math??????

  • @soloud384 science is math.

  • IS THERE A SUCH THING AS A SCIENCE GPA THAT MED SCHOOLS LOOK AT? AND DO MED SCHOOLS PAY ATTENTION TO PREP CLASSES LIKE PRE-CALC?

  • the general population is blind.... it doesn't understand that more money has to be invested on health and less on useless TVplasma and football... but they don't realize until they get sick or there's an emergency

  • um. can you write that down?

  • hey i want to become a doctor who visits patient who sleep at the hospital everyday, i didnt know what kind of doctor is that because im 15 years old i want to become a doctor i need help.. what courses should i take plus is it hard to become a doctor because i need to know alots of disease and the cure to the disease it looks kinda hard but i really want to be a doctor....! someone can reply to this message? thanks alot for reading my comment

  • 17 years. wut.

  • I want to be a Geneologist, how many year of residency do I need for that specialty?

  • To anyone who still think doctors are overpaid, I say talk to me after you carry 11 (or more if you specialize) years of student loans.

  • his cool

  • LETS DO THISSS!!!!!!!! HIGH FIVE

  • Maybe this is the reason why so many medical practitioners can't practice their profession. This is the reason why the lack of doctors, nurses, etc.. that supposed to be building up their own clinics already, and helping out the community. Average physicians are not driven by money, they are hard working and ready to help the people. The only thing that stopping them is the over-riding laws that fails to see. The same thing that happens in many developing countries!

  • Is that how career works now? Spending all your 20s to finish what career that you are longing for. That is pure rubbish! Let us see, you did all those 11 years. Now, you're paying back all those loaned money either from your parents or the bank. But, you have to think. That is not like 50K grand of debts, and Im sure that is just an average in medical fields. Im not trying to shove it, I'd like to pursue a medical profession. But there is something wrong in our society, that's all I can say!

  • @AznGurl747 "...being smart is lack of time?" What is that. If you didn't notice. I was saying, that there's a problem for medical practitioners particularly to those people wanted to be a physician. I sincerely believe, they are driven not by money but for being philantrophy as a doctor/nurse that love their job. As I said, it will take 11 years to finish. But after that, its rewarding! But not that many doctors/nurses will eventually go through because of failed policies and intrusion!

  • so much work to be one...trust me

  • This is also modest. Some physicians have 20 years formal training. Depends on specialty.

  • I know math is important for this, but its the only thing I'm not too great at in school, but I'm very good at health and science, along with things like that. How worried should i be about this?

  • You shouldn't be. As long as you take BC calculus or the equivalent in college before your 4 years are over, you should be good to go.

  • ok thank you! :)

  • u want to study for 11years just to get yourself high?????????

  • i want to be a doctor, i am only 15. this is something i really want to do.

  • in the same boat over here dude

  • @Krooked339 Im 15 too =) In the future i want go to Harvard Medical School =)

  • lol. good luck with that

  • @r0naldinh0666 thank you. If you really want it, it's not hard to do it :D

  • you should be doing really good in high school to become one to have a strong foundation to be one. Im going to be a Junior this fall.. And im determined to become a doctor.. It's going to be a lot of work. but as long as i believe in myself, i can do this!

  • @AznGurl747 I sort of disagree on that. Being a doctor doesn't mean you devote your entire life towards education, its actually quite the opposite. To get into medical school, you have to be a well rounded applicant, some one with experience in life and not only education. Joining clubs, doing activities and experiencing different aspects of life other than education go a long way. Most of my premed colleagues are popular, have girlfriends and still maintain a ~3.8 GPA. It's all about priorities

  • if you did this, i can gaurantee you will be turned in.

  • okay im getting alot of heat for my pevious comment, obviously i am joking people, wow. gain a sence of humor.

  • people take comments way too seriously

  • if your going to become a doctor, this is something that every morning when you wake up that is all you can think about.

  • i dont are how long it takes i will be come a surgeon

  • I wanna get into medical school, I just hope the 3.75 GPA or higher!, like he mentioned.

  • 11 years of study?

    whoa...!

  • i'm not sure i can do it:(

  • if you think like that then you cant if you think or even better know you can you will

  • Ok how do you become a spinal surgeon? What education do you need?

  • same as above with a 7 year neurosurgery residency or a 5 year orthopedic residency with a fellowship (3 years I think) in spinal surgery

  • Hmm, what is residency anyways?

  • That's you specialty training. So you decide you want to be a doctor, you go to medical school. When you decide what kind of doctor, you go into a residency, which is just a fancy word for graduate medical education, in that area. Residencies vary in length from 3 to 7 years depending on what you want to do (most are either 4 or 5) and will in most cases need to be followed up by a fellowship (subspecialty training anywhere from 1-4 years).

  • Wow, how many freaking years of training is that? like 59,993,858,282 years? geesh why they hell you want to be a doctor anyways? cause that is just too many years.

  • lol i can be painful, but it's worth it in the end to do something you love. btw fellowship is optional, just highly recommended, especially for the competitive jobs; unless you want to subspecialize in something like spinal surgery wher it would be required. But yeah, it's a long commitment. "Young doctor" is an oxy moron lol

  • Lol good luck, just hope by the time you get done you don't have any gray hairs and are not over 60 years old lol.

  • lol no you are like by your 30's when you come out of your residency or younger than 30.

  • :-)

I'm going to be close to Medicare age by the time I get done, but given that I am starting at 49, this is not such a startling thing.

I am going into primary care one way or another, but I will get there, and then I will not retire unless I get too old to practice well.

  • think about it youll be in school for a long time that knowledge is worth more than any amount of money

  • Comment removed

  • @Omegax9000 i expect you would learn alot more if you didnt go, saying that i am going to study to become a doctor so.... what the hell :)

  • So do you have to pay to go into residency too?

  • no, we are paid on average 40,000 -50,000 a year; on the high end of that in high cost of living areas like New York City or the low end (sometimes even less) in rural areas depending on the hospital (there is no regulation that says how much we must be paid).

  • Oh my gosh! That's a lot than i expected! I better start saving up!

  • How can anyone afford to pay for all that education.

  • Residencies spend their salaries on food and paying off debt.

  • many parents (if they have the money) pay for their kids education.

  • Loans. But doctors make a crap load of money 150k at the least, so you can pay it off easy.

  • true after residency, but not during. I am a resident and right now I make $49,000/yr while sitting on >$170K in debt. In about 6 years I will make enough to afford the monthly payments. And even though uncle sam is who I owe most of the money too, I get no allowances in my federal taxes for having this debt. So the $35000 I bring home is still calculated as $49k when figuring out my income based repayment.

  • lol.

Borrow it in loans, then make money as an attending and pay it off just like any other loan.

  • @ViacomFailsAtLife a support system, financial aid, scholarships, etc

  • @ViacomFailsAtLife Working on mcDonalds !

  • lol in usa there is the MCAT admissions test and MCAS admissions process, in the UK its the UKCAT admissions test and UCAS admissions process :P

  • no a doctor makes a commitment to help people, they are supposed to give medical attention to anyone with or without money. By the time i become an md my kid will be 20.

  • every doctor gives it their all in their profession. if no doctor did they wouldn't be a doctor

  • i understand, well for the person who is in the career knows how hard it is, of curse is hard to see trama all the time, and they might become so helpful- i have a friend who is studying for it, he is in the 5 th years- is this moment he cannt get a job- or help voluntary- i maintanances -, is very hard- to long - you get old, and enjoy your money when you get 55 years old.. right now i m enjoying my money,,... so im cool.. sorry doctor..

  • ok, let help people- no considered like that, most of the doctor has to charge money first, before get ur help, because - they have to pay thier bills, and get a job in one hospital for be a doctor, cannt have it, you most be someone who clean the bathroom first, everything just to make you harder, that why some of the doctors are leaving the country - why is that? well they want to become experinced, here in our country is to badlest experience we can get - well that all. . we love doctors

  • It seems so risky. I looked at the high school classes, and they require an 80 or above. If your a senior and you get a 79 in a med class, not only do you not graduate without all credits but you have no chance at any other jobs. Not to mention the 3.5 average you have to maintain. Even then, there is less then a 30% chance of getting in. And then you waste your 20's in med school to find your self on average of $20,000 in debt. All to save multiple lives...I think it's worth it.

  • here comes the insane Conspiracy people right on Que. I too think it sucks how only a few people can be a Doctor..but then agian i wouldnt want jus anyone to Fix me. I wouldnt want Pedro who can barely speak english and jus got here to be giving Life altering treatments :S..sorry if you feel otherwise

  • =S I was thinking about furture jobs yesterday, Man 11 years? i would be wasting most of my 20's. I was thinking maybe a degree in universitiy and about a year in med school

  • but what if you apply to a med school and then you dont get in? what can u do?

  • I think you can try other medical professions that require less rigorous qualifications, but they're still very competitive to get into!

  • Dang dude too long by the time i become a doc i will probbley be4 like 50 or something years old

  • thanks for advicing me on how to become doctor,it is very helpful.

  • I agree with you but I also want to mention that after 8 year(after step2) you already have your title as being a doctor. So during residency you are already a doctor and getting paid the only difference is that you are supervised by an attending doctor. In NYC a resident makes about (40k-70k), I don't know about other areas...after residency 150k-ish or more. After residency you take USMLE step 3, passing step 3 gives you a license to practice independently or apply to jobs at any hospitals.

  • Ridiculous and inefficient. How on earth is anyone able to pull this off? It is little wonder that we are consistently short on doctors. How is one to afford becoming a doctor? Only the rich elite?

  • thts toooo long, if i become a docter, ill get of of training by the time i'm 40!!!!!!!! but the money is great

  • they just trying to scam your money- for thousand years, also for ou to be old and think how hard it is to be a doctor, they are doing for ou, beacause they want money for thier rest of thier life- so ou go with them - spending money- think about this, sickeness always be here - they just trying for you to look good studying, good boy, suffer.. they wont never tell you how you will make money, and feel confident, you most be old - tobe trusted..

  • im planning to be an orthopedic surgeon [:

  • i want to go surgical

  • I am going to become a doctor.

  • its not actually that bad, u complete a bachelor's degree which is 4 years, then your first 2 years in med school are in-class type of studies, but the second half you're at the hospital already. after you finish 4 years of medical school you can gladly add an "M.D." at the end of your name :P cuz ur a doctor :P the rest is stright forward, u specialize in a particular area. ;)

  • oops didn't read this before I posted above...you already mentioned it :D

  • DDDDAAAAAAAAMNNNNNN!!!!! All that to become a doctor?! I gotta start actually trying. I need some motivation.

(Im a sophomore in high school by the way.)

  • Thankyou for putting this here : )

    After the first 8

    year's, does anyone

    take's for a specialty

    in emergency medicine?

    Thankyou in advance : )

    xoxo

  • I believe emergency medicine is a 3 year residency.

  • Thank you, that is extremely helpfull : )

    ~

    Peace : )
