When Red used to come out of the normal sets from his program onto a stage, he'd smile and the music would begin and the live audience would start to clap and then Red Buttons would begin the song, sometimes with new, timely, lyrics and you could see he really loved it. He was a sweet ham, who had a very successful career.
NO Money and the Government is spending Trillions, the Banks hord billions and won't lend a dime, Wall Street is broken but "if there is no decline the market will go higher, ". The Depression is doing a rerun: Go out now and buy a GM SUV! STRANGE THINGS ARE HAPPENING! A tribute to Red Buttons, a haunting, timeless song I heard at age 9! IN 1952 it was, INVADERS FROM MARS, GIANT ANTS AND A FORBIDDEN PLANET--HERE WE GO AGAIN..a Trillion Dollars! Thanks Red.
It's sad that Red Buttons would sometimes walk onstage cupping his ear and skipping to the rhythm in his head of this song some 30 and 40 years later when a whole new generation was clueless to the reference. My grandma had a 78 player as well and would let me hear her collection. This was a jewal among many. thanks for the post
My dad had this in his collection and I inherited it but lost it in a fire I'm so glad to hear it again my parents raised me on this type of music and it's just great I once owned both their collections and my own totaling over 2000 vinyl but I lost it all in a fire nad am currently trying to rebuild it all thanks for the memories. dcs46!
It did my heart good to read your comments about this song, and how your dad had the original on vinyl...I too loved this song, and had the old 78rpm of it too; I especially loved looking at the label, seeing that the lyrics were written by Red Buttons, and A.Walker...the A. is for Allan Walker... My dad...who also appeared as a supporting cast member in every episode of "The Red Buttons Show"during it's first two years, a total of 46..of which so far, I've found only ONE on VHS tape (sighs).
Nice piece of nostalgia!

I remember this song was a question on the Art Fleming version of "Jeopardy" one time. The contestant answered, "Sid Caesar." She was wrong.

I have this on a 45 RPM and used to watch his show with my family. Those were the good years.
