  • The Aborinal story looks really...funky.

  • Awesome, we need more science teachers like you.

  • This is a video that American politicians and members of school boards should watch. Nicely done.

Let's hope that humanity can keep both the Ancient Roman fundamentalists and the Abrahamic "space monster god" fundamentalists, from interfering with school classes (except for those subjects being taught in a reasonable manner where they belong, in the History class).

  • Nicely done! You also have a very nice voice to listen to. I think your students must really enjoy your lessons! Thanks for posting.

  • The fact that anyone would need to 'explain' why teaching assorted stories from numerous cultures, religions and historical periods is not an explanation is frankly beyond me...

Whats next I wonder... the 'scientific' explanation for reproduction... you know with the sex, and pregnancy and birth thing.... and just to even things up teach the alternative 'stork' theory of reproduction?

  • @MumblingMickey Creationism is still being taught in 13 percent of US classrooms. It is deemphasized in an additional 30 percent. We are still educating a large number of people who can't distinguish a myth from a scientific theory.

  • @LilandraX Well that's pretty much madness... but then again since it will have a very bad effect on the US's ability to carry out science and therefore research this century (in a period dubbed the information age) its pretty obvious that Europe and China will benefit greatly from this lunacy.

Not that I'm saying this is my preferential choice in how new jobs and industry should arise in the rest of the world... but since I'll benefit by it I certainly can't feel too bad about it.

  • You'll understand here that I'm not supporting the teaching of crazy assed nonsense to kids... but you do realise the rest of the world is watching this... and most are rubbing their hands with glee...

It takes a lot to try persuade a biomed company to set up a research base... it takes less if the US simply can't produce the researchers.

And hey, I'm in an english speaking well educated nation where thankfully we more or less dumped religion over the last decade (for obvious reasons)

  • Greek and Roman mythology are much more interesting and fun than the mythology of the three monotheistic religions.

  • aron has a great voice.

  • Well done - not only the video, but the way you taught your children.

  • Q) If the universe is only 6000 years old, how did the light from galaxies billions of light years away reach earth so soon?

    *

    A) God is very impatient.

God didn't want to wait for light, so God made light faster than light.

    *

    Hmmm?

You'd think someone who's existed for ever would have more time.

  • @DaddyOD13 God is faster than light so he carried it over here faster to test our faith. Duh.

  • @hybriddefect O rly?

He put dinosaur bones in rock to do the same thing.

Either that, or dinosaurs only lived for a 1000 years or so, ...before the flood ...with Adam & Eve.

It was like "The Flintstones" I think.

  • Nice video, it's a thumbs up from me.

  • MammaRa!!! I love it, well done!

Had no clue until Aron reared up!

  • I've subscribed in anticipation of more nice videos from you. May I make a small criticism? While I understand the need in some videos to have a script handy, you sounded a bit too much like your were just reading that script.

People like AronRa can sound great reading from a script but most of us end up sounding rather stale doing so. I might suggest using a bullet-point script with points you want to adress but a more loose, conversational adressing of those points.

    just a thought =)

  • @stiimuli Thank you. We tried another recording, but Aron said," it sucked worse." He naturally did his voice overs from the start with no problems. I am working on it, and will try different things in the future with with his help. He struggles with patience, but he still helps.

  • Test?

  • what a lovely video :)

  • Subkimor 3. "...every bit of it was taught and left up to the children to pick what they believed (sic) true."

Science is not a democratic process. Only theories that undergo rigorous testing survive that is what is taught in science classrooms. Not what people believe may be true.

  • Subkimor:2. "...both, if not all forms of creationism or evolution should be taught."

There is not enough time in the day to teach the thousands of forms of creationism. Science is vast on its own. No form of creationism has scientific merit or testability.

  • Hahahaha best depiction of Hades ever! Please make more videos, you are wonderful.

  • "Legend" =D

  • Very good to explain this issue to kids. I 'll do the same with mine once He gets older.....I live in TX too...

  • It was like story time, I love old myths...gonna use this vid in my high school bio class if someone asks why I will never teach creationism

  • Great video... would that be Lilandra Neramani, the Majestrix?

  • @TheTexanCanadian Ah! Good job. Even most other comic geeks don't recognize that obscure a reference.

  • Creationism owned by a third grader with proper education. It doesn't get any better than that. Your kids are very lucky indeed, good job guys!

  • awesome job

  • Nice

  • Well done.

  • I like it ^_^

  • There is no way this is a grown woman with 2 kids narrated this video, the voice sounds too much like that of a 6 year old child.

  • @AlucardNoir Theres no way a grown person wrote this statement. People are different and I think she has a beautiful voice.

  • @ttgator2003 LOL, sorry if I offended your good lady mate, actually now that you mention it, we did have a teacher with this kind oh high childish voice while I was in high school, but that was some time ago, and since most of my pears now smoke - I might have gotten used to women's voices being an octave lower then what would be considered normal. Again, sorry if I offended.

  • 4.25 don't mess with Tim Curry.

  • If Kore is based on Ereshkigal, then Kore is the original ruler of the Underworld, and not Hades. Hades would be similar to Nergal, who in time took over the underworld from Ereshkigal, when it attacked her with the help of the other gods.

Not like anyone cares, but it's funny how over time the Goddesses seem to keep getting demoted.

  • Beatuifullly done LilandraX. You are a pleasure to listen to. Subbed.

  • My granny use tell me the story where Dinosaurs and Dragons were racing to the heavens to get a spot. The Dino fell while racing and that's why they are dead and Dragons are in the Eastern horoscope. I thought to myself "very cool story".

  • ooh what movie is that

  • @FreeeeS The movie is called "Legend" starring Tom Cruise. Early 1980's I think.

  • This is a really good way to look at the "controversy" good work!

  • An excellent post. Good to know that some kids are sharp enough to figure it out at such an early age.

  • Great collection of images, and a well told story.

  • nice story, u rock!

  • A third grader is smart enough to figure out why creationism shouldn't be taught, but someone like Rick Perry isn't..

Well, I guess we now know what grade he didn't make it to.

  • nice first time out.

  • Can we just clone you and make you be the mom of every elementary school kid in Texas?

Those poor kids don't know any better, and a lot of them either have parents who believe that nonsense, or don't know enough to correct it.

Education is for teaching children HOW to think, not for indoctrination.

  • What do ancient Greek stories have to do with Intelligent Design?

Clearly Zeus, Hades, and Persephone are all made up characters in fictional Greek stories that never really happened. Not at all like good Christian facts about talking snakes, a man coming from clay, a women coming from a rib, and only producing two male offspring yet somehow are the ancestors of all humans...

...it just makes so much more sense, people. :P

  • Great video! Thank you Mr + Mrs AronRa.

  • Congratulations!

  • Excellent first video. Co grat

  • I have always loved this Greek myth, and think upon it every year as the seasons change. The idea of humanity being dependent on a hostage exchanged between a Godess and God is a fascinating narrative.

Yet as powerful as I find this story, and as much as it haunts my thoughts, I never felt compelled to pretend it true, or convince others that such a thing would be good to believe.

  • Cool photo of the tree divided into like the 4 seasons.

    And super cool video.

Found myself totally forgetting what I was ( multi-tasking ) doing.

  • brilliant

  • The difference is this is a GOOD story & actually makes some kind of sense.

  • real good first try. i look forward to what comes next

  • I do have one question Miss AronRa (heh), why did you use the name Chloe? It was Persephone.

  • @OkamsRazer ...meaning it was always Persephone, no name change. Or was I mistaken on this point?

  • @OkamsRazer Persephone may predate the Greeks. However she may have been borrowed into the culture and grafted onto Kore the goddess of spring. Kore becomes Persephone after marrying Hades. There is more to the symbolism there in the relationship between death and renewal.

  • @LilandraX

Did you know that David Deutsch used that same Greek myth as his example of what makes good and bad explanations:

    watch?v=VuP3NhDu6Hk

  • Well this was good however the way Hades was portrayed on this video was very Christianised... Trying to make it an analogy for the Judaic myth of the devil. Which is okay for English people I guess, they are not too familiar with the way Greek think. Greeks and Hellenistic people never had such marked good vs. evil conflict with their Gods. Hades being the bad guy is as much truth as saying that Zeus was the bad guy.

  • @luciferiexcelsil umm actually I think they chose this because it was a scene of temptation via food of a young girl, the whole premise of the story was a seasonal shift due to magical causes and of course because Darkness (a la Tim Curry) was totally boss in Legend. :)

  • @OkamsRazer Well to be honest can't understand too well the American accent, my output was towards the scene rather than what she was saying.

  • @luciferiexcelsil,

Other than making a specific point to associate Hades with things underworldly (for ostensibly good reasons, like him being god of the underworld or something..), I'm not so sure that his bad-guy-ness was ever mentioned nor strictly implied by the content of this video. In addition, was there any really opportunity to make this clear from the events of the story without specifically saying, "oh yeah, hades isn't a devil-like guy?"

  • @luciferiexcelsil That's not entirely true. Typhon was pretty much evil and his conflict with Zeus could be seen as good vs evil. It's not as clear cut as Satan vs Jesus or other examples from the Abraham myths but its pretty close.

  • I have no idea why this made me laugh so much, It might have something to do with the fact a young child is more intelligent than a large portion of adults in so called developed/civilized countries or it might be that Greek mythology is so much more awesome than any story in the bible.

  • Great Vid :)

  • Damn, those greeks were pretty creative.

  • good vid... :)

  • You sound like the coolest parents...

  • thanks for sharing the knowledge :-)

  • Rah, rah, rah, to....well, Mrs. Ra ;) .

I think you did a very good job teaching your children in a diplomatic fashion .

  • Good beginning ma'am.

Lookin' forward more vids from ya.

  • Awesome...

  • Why can't we all just start celebrating Hearth's Warming Eve? Sounds like a good idea to me.

  • "We are all animals my lady!" Tin Curry plays the best monsters ever.

  • good start, hope you make more

  • My wife finally wanted to try her hand at making a video.

  • @AronRa sounds like a delightful person

  • @AronRa I remember your wife telling this story when we met. It's simply awesome. :)

  • @AronRa I saw that C0nc0rance favorited this so I checked it out. The voice of Hades was oddly familiar and then I saw your comment. ;)

  • @AronRa great job do a few more!
