Hi, The reason why it sounds like a hambo is because it is played a bit too slow and not springingly enough. You can find a correctly played version here (even think it is the same tune).
A hopsa is a kind of up-beat walz and was often play before breaks as the fast pace allowed the musicians to run the dancers off the floor. In the video you can see some of the dancers cannot keep the pace.
A hopsa is NOT a waltz and is not a hambo. A hopsa is related to polka. It is in 4/4.
