Great demo of the versatility of the Melody Maker. The double pickup version has been discontinued, but a few can still be found in the odd store or on Ebay if you look hard enough. The single version is a lovely little instrument anyway - very versatile.
i have this guitar... what do you think about it? and totally awesome playing! for some reason i love the way the guitar plays, the only thing i may do is add some tuners...
Very sweet chime like clean, even on solid state amps. And the overdriven/distorted response is great. Way less hum than a tele or strat. You can even get pinch harmonics out of the p90! Go for it!
Thanks for the comments but I am going to have to re-record this. This version is rushed, timing is terrible and there are too many mistakes. It sounds so much better, slower with finese. It was late when I recorded it and it should not have been posted.
@soopermv Picki and fingerstyle is a real fingerbusting technique. I've tried it but haven't the skill. Gordon Giltrap is an expert at it in the folk style.
Great song! And it being on a Melody Maker is icing on the cake. More proof that anything can be played on any guitar if the guitarist has the chops. Thanks for posting it-- I've added it to my favorites
Thank you - very kind. This piece was written to be played slower and with more finesse. I was frustrated having screwed it up several times, and you can hear that. I plan to do it right. The Mellody Maker is my least expensive electric and one of my all time favorites.
Thank you very much for posting this video, nobody has played anything interesting with the Gibson Melody Maker Reissue on Youtube except you! You have showed us what this guitar can do played by someone with "good hands".
Great! I have the same guitar in burst....I wish they wouldn't have stopped making the two pickup model. I love the pickups. This is on of the nicest videos I've heard.
I just bought a black single pickup MM on ebay. I'm waiting for the UPS truck. Great little guitars.
THX - This is probably the cheapest Gibson you can buy. About $375 I believe - its a Gibson Melody Maker Re-issue and is available at almost any online music store. Neck usually needs a simple adjustment to make it play well.
This MM dual is it too much more expensive than the single coil version?

That sounded more like some sort of hybrid rockabilly than jazz to my ear. It sounds good.

yes two pickups - they are not humbucks - they are single wound. Guitar is quiet on bridge and neck pickup and real strong on both pickups.
