You can make it up with out backwards long jumping, the backwards long jump is a glitch! You can do without.

i dont get why it says that you need 70 stars to open the door that leads to the endless stairs when the door opens anyway. its just to make them unendless. but that doesnt matter anyway when you can just do this

The door opens just because you cant get to the top of the un-ending stairs anyway, at lest not before you got 70 stars...

Well, this IS the N64 version. The N64 is the only system with a Z button that plays SM64 (no, not WiiVC, DS...).

The backwards long jump thing is really hard I can't EVER do it because for some reason every time I do it, a few sec. after Mario starts going fast, he stops and instead he jumps backwards normally. I've been trying this for a month, and it never works XP DX DX DX DX DX DX DX DX XP

Yeah it happened to me too, three times, and on a N64. Actually, if you are jumping at the left of the stairs, you may go through the floor and fall. You'll land in the corner of Wet Dry World's painting.
