  • This man was my great grandfather. I knew who he was but he didn't know I existed. He sounds happy and true and that's probably why he lived to be 92.

  • So how are you related,I mean through which child? Bascom lived just up the road from where my Father grew up and he was close friends with my Dad, his Father and Uncles. Bascom is the one who taught my Dad to fiddle and his son Lamar taught him the guitar if I'm not mistaken. My Dad played for Bascom at his dances for quite some time until he became a Minister later.

  • Thanks for your comment. Bascom's daughter Nelle was my paternal grandmother. I happened to be living in Asheville in the early nineties and Nellie as I called her took me to the holler in turkey creek where I met several family members, her sisters I believe.
