  • Last Night you Thought me how to Smoke Pot '', Last Night'',

  • Whatever happened to James Baker? The Victims, the Scientists...what a pedigree. In the late 80s I seem to remember I saw a single from the James Baker Experience called ``Born To Be Punched'', which to my lasting regret I never bought. Haven't seen or heard anything of the man since.

  • @ChicksDigBeige The 'punch' song is on my nzoz1985 channel... simply type James Baker nzoz1985, you'll get it... he's still busy working in bands and whatever... there's a wiki write up on him.

  • thumbs up if Corey Duffel brought u here.

  • Not bad.

  • corey duffel! rules! lml

  • @charlybrawnful

    yee! foundation!

  • band is great and i love that bass guitar!!

  • Pity they didn't use a 44 gallon drum as the bass drum :(

  • no bass drum???!? thats cool

  • @TheSupersour James Baker didn't need one. He made the sound by stomping his foot.

  • Kim and the most excellent James Baker on drums... WTF.... They didnt have live tv in the 70's 80's. it was all lip sinc.. Not a choice of the artists, just the way it was. This is classic Australian roots music. James is the best. xx

  • Who's the other band on the left?

  • @SnotAngle The Aliens... they had just performed their God-awful song 'Follow That Girl' (video can be found on this channel)....

  • @nzoz1980 YEah that songs terrible, what was this a battle or something? Scientists > Aliens

  • @SnotAngle I mean in the movies the Scientists always defeat the stupid Aliens . . .

  • @SnotAngle ha ha ha, Countdown was a terribly tacky show. Some wise guy must have thought it'd be great to put on both bands in that one segment, finding some humour in the band names... whatever... The Aliens had another hit called 'Confrontation', which got them commercial success.... whilst the Scientists were being refused gigs inspite of their appearance on Countdown. Aliens sucked - Scientists were cool, but the latter struggled.. but hmmm... who, on youtube, are getting the most views

  • Classic Punk RocK!!!

  • lip syncing lol

  • @irocz0r they stood no choice with the allmighty but cheaply made 'countdown'

  • muy buena cancion great song

  • How old/young is Kim here?

  • That's Ben Juniper on lead guitar. Hey Ben if you read this, you might remember me from Bilgoman and John Forest tavern.

  • did somebody steal the bass drum ?

  • SO HOT

  • Sounds quite 60's. Nonsurprisingly. Never heard so much punky beatmusic as on Oz radio and Bruce Milne in particular. Ok for a starterspoint. Later on they would blossom in swamplaaaand.

  • Gotta love them Europen teeth

  • @Forbrtishesyesonlyy wtf are you talking about. they're an australian band.

  • @nzoz1980 ahaha oh man how embarrassing

  • lol, it's jack salmons dad.

  • Great, great song.

  • Great Track

  • no way that dudes teeth are real.

  • @antmichb chicklets

  • need the lyrics!

  • the lead singer is soo ugly. good song though

  • @StayFrosty4 it is a good song. it's also a good band. the leadsinger may have seen better days. however, he isn't the ugliest thing fronting band. in fact, i would think of him as looking a little everyday. i wouldn't think his looks would even call for a comment. are american really that superficial?

  • @nzoz1980 Unfortunately many of my fellow americans fit the 'ugly american' stereotype epitomized by StayFrosty4. First heard The Scientists with the 'We Had Love' & 'Swampland' 7"ers when I picked 'em up new at a local record shop. Fantastic band, I still play those records and a couple 12" LP & Ep's I found back then, too. Long live Kim Salmon, long live the Scientists.

  • @heavycheck Agh... sweet... wish I had the clip for Swampland.

  • @nzoz1980 yeah....if anything, doesn't he look like Val Kilmer?

  • @nzoz1980 Yanks are fucked.

Anyways, Ugly Cretins play the best music.

  • @StayFrosty4 He's not ugly! SHut the hell up!

  • give that drummer and kick drum!! Excellent track. They've reformed I see and are playing ATP New York. Unfortunately I live in Auckland so wont be making that one, shame...

  • I loved this band! Thanks for the vid.

  • Saw them.as support to Siuoxsie and the Banshess in Liverpool 1985.

  • Everytime I hear this song, I can't stop thinking of Corey Duffel.

  • @aaroniamescua lol same.... skate for life!

  • @aaroniamescua the drummer also looks like corey duffel lol

  • FINALY SOME CLASSIC PUNK!!!!!!!!!!

  • Weird how that drummer James Baker doesn't use a bass drum!

  • Fantastic stuff! Thanks for posting!!

  • anybody know where i can get the tabs for that song?

  • great upload. the clarity is awesome.

  • The Bass and the drummer look like ramones!

  • study that drummer his name is James Baker. He is instumental in starting up and playing in every really cool band to come out of OZ - the Victims, Hoodoo Gurus, Dubrovniks, James Baker Experience, Scientists, Beasts of Bourbon plus others....legend

  • @raindogred Saw James Baker last night, he now drums for The Painkillers

  • The clasic punk!

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome - pure '60's amped up garage! Is there a definitive 1976-1980 Australian Compilation I can get hold of?

  • Do the Pop: Australian Garage-Rock Sound 1976-87 ... is a good place to start....

  • Cheers mate....I don't suppose you know which label that's on?

  • Shock

  • There is also other compilation CD's to check out:

    1) Tales from the Australian Underground, Vol. 2: 1977-1979 on Feel Presents/Revolver label.

    2) Inner City Sound: Australian Punk and Post-Punk on Laughing Outlaw

Good time for Aussie rock, both in the mainstream and the underground.

  • @MrAnguszero worth getting murder punk volumes 1 and 2

  • awesome song very punk!!!

  • real punk

  • PERTH punk!

  • A punk band using REAL chords :o

  • Does any one know how to play this or know where I can get the tabs for it?!!

  • looks like he has chicklets for teeth

  • ...and shiny white boots....hahahaha

  • lmao!!

  • the drummer looks like johnny ramone

    haha sick song!

  • That's James Baker kiddo. Drummer for The Hoodoo Gurus, and The Beasts of Bourbon. He was doing swamp and grunge way before Seattle "discovered" it...

  • Dubrokniks was James other big band.

  • dang hes using no bass drum

  • He is using a bass drum, it is a clear one!

  • haha no bass drum

    Brilliant.

  • Once owned bassist Ian Sharples bass rigg a nice big 70's number until it blew up and burnt down my cousins house to the ground.Oh well, all in the name of r"n"r i suppose.

  • I remember seeing them on Countdown. As with all decent bands in the so called Countdown era, they only got their 3 mins of fame due to a pop song. Fortunately other radio stations played The Scientists as they evolved with a cult following, and we could all buy their records and see them live without the BS of that idiot Meldrum. Being out of Australia for sometime, I have not followed the band and was pleasantly surprised to see Kim on TV. He is still a very handsome man!

  • this guy is so underated, in Ozz. 30 years performing, give the man some award, please

  • My god, this is good. One of the best Power Pop songs/performances I've ever heard. I would buy this video if it were available.

  • Corey Duffel!!!!! This is a good song!!!!!!

  • corey duffel part in foundation thats life ! XD

  • the singer looks a bit like willem dafoe

  • I thought he looked more like your dad!

  • where can i download it?

  • you might have some luck with Soulseek.

  • It's more power-punk than punk rock actually anyway, that's a great song and a great band!

  • I just noticed that James is playing without a bass drum. I shat bricks!

  • Kim Salmon was really into Brian Jones.

  • God, is this song really nearly 30 years old? I remeber it coming out. :)

Suppose that explains how young Kim Salmon looks. :)

  • australian punk was very good too I think better than english punk

  • haha lip singing!

  • It's difficult to do it any other way.

  • what

  • yes, its lip sync....why did you think they put the young teens up the front of the stage?....cause they didnt want people to know! hehe

  • how could anyone not know? there are no microphones.

  • this is the real punk

  • He's an Aussie punk legend.

  • singer is Kim Salmon, later in Beasts Of Bourbon and Kim Salmon & The Surrealists.

drummer James Baker, later of Hoodoo Gurus and Beasts Of Bourbon. They recorded many albums and still have a growing fan basis.

  • @nzoz1980 Lead guitarist is Ben Juniper, son of the well respected Perth artist Robert Juniper. I remember Ben telling me many moons ago about being in The Scientists and how he appeared on Countdown. Thanks for the upload, I now, finally, get to see the performance.

    Great song and great band.

  • blimey talk about livin under a rock
