The plot of this movie reminds me of that episode of the simpsons Treehouse of Horror where Snake's hair gets transplanted onto Homer's scalp, and the Snake version of Homer kills everyone who helped get him sent to prison, eventually leading to Bart.
Both Conrad Veigh (pronounced "fight") and my grandmother were good friends both on and off stage. Even though my grandmother never had an opportunity to flee Nazi Germany, they were able to correspond with each other when she did arrive with my mother in America in 1949. Sometimes, I have a vain wish that she would have resumed her acting career when she did arrive.
There were two versions of this movie made. One is in German and the other in Russian. Thank you again for posting this video.
That is impressive! Так здорово, наверно,когда кто-то из родственников близко знаком с одним из тех людей, которые впоследствии стали легендами... Вы не знаете, где можно найти русскую версию этого фильма?
Just ordered this! So excited to see it! I had never heard of it until I got an email from Amazon recommending it to me. Hahaha. Dude, Cesare is the best character ever.
My maternal grandsmother's stage name was Alexandra Sorina. Her real name was Alexandra Czikevich. She starred with Conrad Veight in this film. She also starred with Lionel Barrymore in other silent films. She and Lionel didn't get along and so they would call each other names as the film was shot, but the audience never knew.
Alexandra died in 1973 from lung cancer and she is buried alongside her sister Anna at the Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery in Marin County, California. Thank you for posting.
That's indeed odd! Here in the States, most of the sound films of Laurel and Hardy (Dick und Doof) are not available although this team originated here.
That's also weird! Laurel and Hardy are very popular here in Germany, and most of their movies are available on DVD! God alone knows what goes on inside the heads of the studio bosses, some true gems are kept from us while so much trash is released.
his hands are innocent !!! lol

Veidt has amazing hands. Why are Germans blessed with such beautiful hands? lol
And thanks for posting this! I think I'm convinced to see the movie now. :)

Those hands are wily. I wouldn't say they're beautiful, though..

@mills211 I cannot really say that I meet a lot of people in Germany with the looks of Conrad Veidt!! ;-)

Kino and the Murnau Stiftung have been a godsend to the aficionados of the German silent film!

Funny enough, NONE of these films are available in Germany! I guess there is no market for them.
