Without them, we could very well still be in the dark ages. I'm considered white, although my grandfather was part Navaho Indian. My father looked a bit Indian, although I do not. Just the same, people catergorize me as being full white. The problem with that is many of us are not full white, yet we get discriminated against.

Thanksgiving has no more meaning to me than Christmas or Easter. I'm thankful for the native people who were willing to help the European settlers. They had no way of knowing what was to come. If more natives had been able to survive the diseases, history would be much different. I am thankful that some survived to fight for their lands and remain to tell us their stories. The treachery of the white man is terrible but nothing compared to the devastation of the plagues the natives faced. That most have been truly awful. I mourn for that loss. Will you?

@omiimii I agree with much of what you say, but please don't classify all whites as being bad. Although they did some bad things, they also have done much good. Without them, we could very well still be in the dark ages. I'm considered white, although my grandfather was part Navaho Indian. My father looked a bit Indian, although I do not. Just the same, people catergorize me as being full white. The problem with that is many of us are not full white, yet we get discriminated against.

@ominimi, I just wanted to add that I had a beautiful necklace my great grandmother made with many glass beads. I cherished it since it was handmade and a part of my Navaho ancestry. I'm also Irish so when my family first emigrated to the U.S, they too were discriminated against. They were Irish and poor, and considered the lowest of the low at that time. I remember the stories my grandparents use to tell me. Very sad too. I feel bad for the Indians, they had so much taken from them.

Celebrate Thanksgiving or don't--your choice. I suggest, however, you don't drink the Dominant-Kulture Kool-Aid that tells you to:
1. Forget telling the truth and "move on".
2. Accept your people's attempted destruction because "you weren't perfect either" (I guess the African -americans deserved slavery because they were from imperfect cultures as well!)
3." Pity" the invaders because they , too, were "being persecuted" (NOT true in many cases!Read history!)

This is a very interesting view that I have never seen before. Native people brought Europeans seeds of Pumpkins and corn and tought them how to grow them in this country right.Also there was a dinner that was shared between the two races.
