Wrong dumbass..Classic blunder that proves you're an idiot..
The Spanish invented the concentration camps in the Cuban uprising..They called them "reconcentrados" and killed thousands through deliberate neglect..
The camps in Boer WERE NOT Death camps..They werent invented until Nazi Germany...The reason people died in them was because of poor administration...They couldn't feed them all..
@spudnick3490 they wern't death camps? then how do you explain the countless murders of thousands of innocent women and children? the British actually stated that one of their objectives was to wipe out all the Boers. If the deaths were because of "poor administration", then why did they execute countless innocent women and children there? why did the British officers put CHUNKS OF GLASS in the food of the prisoners? i think those things are done to purposely murder people. Fucking British scum.
They weren't death camps retard. They were concentration camps. Concentration camps were given a bad name by the Nazis. They are actually a good thing so that woman and children could be kept away from the war.
Where exactly does it say they executed women and childrend? Load of bullshit..And the British never stated it was to wipe of the Boers.
This is rich coming from a Canadian. Considering you wiped out the Natives just like the USA.
@spudnick3490 Sorry sick british prick, read the books!! You don't know anything about it. Come to Pretoria and we will explain it to you...................
@spudnick3490 you must obviously be a brit and your attempting to defend your honor as one by denying what was actaully PROVEN. Every country did their fair share of sins, who are you to claim otherwise?
"Every country did their fair share of sins, who are you to claim otherwise?" Where did I say Britain didn't commit bad things? No where. What I did say is that nearly every bad thing said about the British Empire is greatly exaggerated and sometimes even made up.
Everyone forgets about the atrocities commited by France or Spain.
Like France in Algeria, Kongo and Vietnam or Spain in South America. No one EVER mentions these.
Are you an idiot? The nazi's didn't use death camps in the slightest that it soviet propaganda, the british were intentionally murdering boer women and children to get the boer to surrender.
"The nazi's didn't use death camps in the slightest that it soviet propaganda"
I'm sorry what? Are you saying that the 6 million Jews that were killed were made up by Soviet propaganda? Are you fucking retarded?
"the british were intentionally murdering boer women and children to get the boer to surrender." No you are wrong. The British were burning Boer farms to starve the armies. The women and children in the farms were given a place to live in concentration camps.
the boer people have my support! Britain seems to think they can do as they please without consequences. Freedom to ireland and freedom to every other country affected by the cancerous british politics!
@seanymo Freedom from what exactly ? Freedom from British money, investment, protection, working class-people, Dartington glass, West Ham United, welfare benefits, jobs, the BBC, the right to free speech, the right to demonstrate, the right to vote ?
@clydewell freedom from british rule. The ability to lead your own people without the influence of a foreign country. To be able to ensure the well being of the people of your country without a foreign government only looking out for its own. "Protection" lol have you seen the state of the so called "northern ireland police force" they are continuously failing the public every single day. "The right to free speach? sinn fein were banned from the media by the british government.
@clydewell the right to demonstrate, republican demonstrations were consistantly attacked by R.U.C. personnel. The civil rights association was attacked by the british army and resulted in many dead and injured "bloody sunday". And even today demonstrations are banned and attacked by police. The right to vote? Irish catholics were not allowed to vote for a period and more recenty votes were gerrymandered so the british unionist government would remain in power.
@seanymo Bollocks, when the British Army first went in the Catholics welcomed them but the IRA didn't want that.and threatened anyone who gave the soldiers as much as a glance. One mother was taken from her home and murdered for going to the aid of a young soldier.
You had less freedom under those murdering bastards than any British government.
Sinn Fein were just a mouthpiece for the terrorists
As for protecting who will protect the opposition ? McGuiness, Adams Huh and pigs might fly.
@clydewell yes the british army were welcomed when the first went in, but they were the wrong soldiers for the job, they continuously physically abused children, murdered unarmed civilians and were involved in torture and forging documents to frame people for crimes they had not committed. i try not to blame the british soldiers but more the british government.
@clydewell It was they who sent the soldier's in, it was they who ignored the plee's for reform, it was they who interned the catholic youth and it was they who insured the protestant unionist government remained in power. Sinn Fein are the political wing of the I.R.A. and seek more or less the same goals only using politics.
Of course we had less freedom because we were still ruled by a foreign government. you dont seem to know what you are talking about
@clydewell In a united ireland the protestant people would have the seem power we catholics in the north do now, so if it is ok for the catholic people then it should be ok for the protestant communities too
The first Boer revolt against the British took place about 1840. British police went to arrest a Boer farmer for murdering an African farmworker he and his neighbours resisted. It was to escape this kind of tyranny that they set up their republics.
@cal2mon I can not remember where I got the first one but if you let me have your E-mail I will send it to you. The second one is Vivaldi four seasons winter 3rd moment.
we shouldn't have given the land back to the niggers to fuck up and rape... the filthy beasts... they don't understand civic duty and they are still awaiting the translation of human rights
@chestermolester33 Well, that's not very nice of you to say. And I think if you look close enough you will find that throughout the history of any sort of racial dominance displayed by humanity if one were to label such things, Caucasians were the most brutal and bloody of all. So there mr chester molester sir.
@cal2mon I quite agree about chester33 etc but every group has its monsters it is just fashionable to say Caucasians were worst. Bad as the Spaniards were in 16th century Mexico they got native support because they were better than the Aztec's. Hindus admit that the British were racist but still a damn sight better than the muslims they displaced. An English girl marrying a Hindu was a social outcast but a Hindu man marrying a muslim would be murdered and probably his whole family with him.
@freebeerfordworkers Yes, ultimately certain violent traits cannot be attributed purely on the grounds of race, I assumed that mr. molester was caucasian and I thought I should level the playing field or whatever. Not that it matters too much because it's just youtube comment debating anyway. P.S. You have a good few points to bring up for references aswell.
@freebeerfordworkers Exactly! And where is Britain today? Completely subservient to international Jewry and certainly good at breeding crime-prone ghettos in London, Bristol, Leeds & Manchester. So what is the plan? To downgrade whitey in his own backyard. You British deserve all the hell you get, after all it was you people who invented CONCENTRATION CAMPS in South Africa. Amazing what greed will do! Half Brit half Boer.
@jh12342 Is there anybody, you OLD, shit for brains racist maggot you don't have a go at? Now you are even going after White British people. Your soul is lost..truly lost. Is there anyone apart from other racist crackpots you do not hate? You are not enjoying life. But as a sick, OLD, sewer nazi, who is constantly on the run, keeping 1 step ahead of nazihunters I guess its difficult to enjoy life. You have statistically less than 4 yrs of breath in your body. I want to be at your funeral..
@cal2mon Likewise Zulus under British rule were taxed 10p a year to pay for the Colonial gvmt & had no vote. But they were not conscripted into the army at 12, could marry without killing in battle first, were not impaled on stakes at the Kings whim, were not executed for showing insufficient grief when a ruler died, no other tribe would raid their cattle etc, which happened when the were "free" some Zulus thought that was a fair deal.
my mums greatgrandpa fought for the english, my dads great grandpa fought for the boers. dads grandma was one of the first females in a concentration camp. im kind of proud even though i live in australia haha what an identity crisis
I wonder what the Africans thought of all this. I don't think they were too enamoured of the Boers. The later introduction of Apartheid confirmed their worst fears. The Afrikaaners were and still are a nasty bunch who supported Hitler in WW2..
The fighting finished when it got to hand to hand combat, the Boers being terrified of the bayonets. "They don't like it up 'em" had the ring of truth.
the solution is simple to everyone problems in life and in the world: governments need to protect the money. gold and silver needs to be in the money. our labor, work has to have value cannot be only paper. assets need to be tangible metals that have value. money has to have wealth for each man to feel like a human and not a slave.
Absolutely fantastic! My great grand father and his wife rode with one of the Johannesburg Commandoes, the Uitlander Commando I think. They were surrendered at Paardeberg by Piet Cronje'. My great grandmother was one of 50 women riding with Cronje'. they were interred in a camp where their first son died of camp disease. My great grand parents didn't have anything good to say about the British. I loved the photos from Paardeberg.
@intel You mention British government denied their involvement in genocide for a century
I do not think that is accurate. It was English liberal establishment led by Lloyd George and fueled by reports by Emily Hobhouse on conditions in the concentration camps on how women and children were being starved beaten and murdered by the British 28,000 died! This rightly shocked and shamed Britain into ending the war. So this despicable shameful behavior was known while it was going on
MartinIDavies, you are right that the liberal establishment and Hobhouse's reports in particular had a huge effect in the UK. The Liberal Party also questioned the Conservatives in parliament on the matter mentioned but it was denied. I should also mention that Britain didn't END the war, the Boers eventually surrendered because of what has happened in the concentration camps and because of the effects of the scorched earth policy.
@intell... true by 1901 Boers had run out of resources but the mood back in B was very anti war and the expense huge...on a cheerier note the Boers won the peace as the Republics entered the Union in 1910 with a majority dominant voting bloc.. Paradoxically the very thing that triggered the war in the first place. Nice to talk with someone with a real grasp about this awful war. FYI I am British and grew up southern Africa in the 60s and care about what is happening to white SA
@MartinIDavies That is true. However, those camps weren't intended to annihilate the Boers but to keep them locked away in the first place. The Brits just didn't have anything to feed them after all. It was meant to harm the Boers morale knowing their families are imprisoned and forcing them to surender. It didn't work and some 30.000 Boers died in the concentration camps.
@rapartist43 yes as you rightly point the concentration camps to pressure Boers & by destroying farms deny them supplies. This did work and the effect both imprisonment & annihilation if not by intent then by incompetence & neglect. A stain on B mostly shining reputation. I think 20% of entire Boer population murdered in this way - genocide by any stretch of the imagination. Shame on B….The only saving grace was the huge public outcry in B once conditions became known
Thank you for this interesting video. I grew up in 40s and 50s South Africa, but little of this war was discussed at history classes in school. My grandfather regretted his involvement in the Jamison Raid. One day I must post some of his photos.
I would alos be very very interested in seeing them.. as an aside I would think that they would be of interest to both the Imperial War Museum and the Boer War memorial in Blomefontein... finally if you are interested in Boer war I recommend the Commando by Deneys Reitz a first hand account of the war from one who lived all the way through it...
Martin Davis, See the video response above as a result. I do have a text copy of this if required. There is nothing remarkable here except that is is first person comment.
yes hard to read.. if you have the text that would help... although you say nothing remarkable there is something about eyewitness accounts that transcends all second hand deriverative knowoldge.. and as you know the devil is in the details
So is that what you were taught? The British government denied their involvement in genocide for a century. It is interesting to know how they bypass the facts. Perhaps you can visit the Women's Museum in Bloemfontein or the Genocide Museum Balmoral (both in South Africa) the see the other side of the story... You may not like it, though.
"Seems like," you don't know the facts of the war or the concentration camps. One englishman, (Alfred Milner) was most responsible for the war... Do some reading. And since when is defending your country an act of terror when you are outnumbered 40 to 1. Also, read about "black week" when the boers annihlated numerous British regements like the Black Watch.
Well have just been back through my notes & copied postings, little brother started SEVEN MONTHS AGO used repeated foul language, if he were my little brother I would wash his mouth out. Want a list of the words he used? For more than twenty five postings the worst I called him was a hypocrite. Now you cannot distort the recorded printed truth. He also started the insults. Called oumameelbols teacher a monkey, and my mother too. Should I compile as a list? No, u dont like your own truth.
He should have made it clear he was just a misguided uniformed 12 year old and not played the big mouth man. I had no idea he was 12. Oh now you are on that tract are u? 7 months insulting a nation is not a crusade? More hypocrisy. Wheres the list and where are my answers?
The truth is u cannot accept what is shown of you by your own and it gets to you. You cannot answer questions and are a liar as I have answered everyone of yours. List them again and I will answer them all. Will u do same?
Furthermore you are a liar as I have not posted anything to your brother in ages. He came out of the blue yesterday! Harrassed leave me and my nation be and you will not hear from me. Anyhow this makes good material for my book which I can quote as to English attitudes to their own videos they wont accept.
I make a final challenge to you. Show me your source, name them, the Boer Atroscities, particularily before the war! NO MORE bs, just facts, name them - you cant! LOL
Catholicism777.We beat and killed blacks in the street did we. You mean like was on Tv today about the female protestor beaten, bloodied held for four hours? You mean like Charles Demenez shooting etc, etc. I frequently seen on tv how you run down protestors with horses, mbikes & baton charges then drag them around (females too)by their hair!
Apartheid was based on the colonialist rules we inherited from British governance, don't be too quick to pass the bucket mate!! Need not look further then George Orwell shooting an elephant and the similarities arises. I am no avenger of injustice:-)
Without disrespect to you, you also seem to be yet another one of those who could see into the future, so In 1902 you committed atrocities against the Boers cause you knew that somewhere in the future Boers would do same and therefore deserved it then! LOL! Have a look at all the videos for foul comments not just this one.
Please show 1 comment where Afrikaners denied injustices.
I will show you some where they admit it. Quote me ALLEGED atrocities BEFORE the Boer war! Perspective is Boers were in power for 46 years. England has a thousand years of terrible atrocities on its own by its own. Very recently and even right now! My reaction is not directed at all only those who think they have license to insult! But if the cap fits wear it.
I watched a video, and I saw hundreds attack my nation with most viscous foul disrespectful insults. Go back & check the comments, then come & tell me who is full of lengthy hypocrisy & who started it! I WILL defend my nation no matter what you see me as! Do you lot think they have free rein to expound trash at will? I cannot believe the hypocrisy of commenters. Boers forget about their atrocities? Most of you know nothing, other than the video you see of the Boers & the war.
There you go! The arrogance! you think you are the only ones that could invent anything and the rest of the world would have been lost without you! Just listen to yourself, you admit thinking you are the beginning and end of all. It must kill you that many firsts were not invented in England like the areoplane, car, first flight across the channel, first across the Atlantic, etc etc, not to mention space. Your mars rover is gone, u do not even know what happened to it!
To be honest you can say what you like about the British. I am proud to be British and don't give a shit about your insignificant "people" who do nothing but moan and encite hatred where ever they can while they oppress and collonise a people in their own land and then point the blame at others. Pathetic.
I thought I might have been able to reason with you. Someone who wants to write a book. I thought that might be respectable and I could perhaps learn a thing about cultures. NO.
We have a mine resistant vehicle for more than thirty years without loss - u have armoured land rovers! To proud to admit we are better than u and could save your boys lives! We have a tank and rifle that does not get a fright when it sees the desert! Deepest & most efficient mines, longest and heaviest railway, bogies that are bought by the Japs for hi speed trains. The first, and many heart transplants etc etc.
What boers have done to "change the world for the better" are dwarfed by what Britain has done.
You want examples and facts? India is soon to become an economic superpower and would never have been able to become one if it wasnt for British influence there. That's a fact! They still use British train lines and British democracy. This is the same with Australia and even SA!
You seem obsessed with other peoples comments. I am not those people! We all have a right to different opinions!
India, would they have become what they are if you were still there suppressing them and robbing blind as you did! Clear enough? I dont think so. It is no thanks to you that they shook the chains.
thorsty, here, here!!!! For 90 years they denied the Indians even the right to vote, and now they take credit for the hard workd Indians had to endure for the last 60 years?!!!
My friend, it's the Indians that did it. That worked hard to move somewhere in this world. The British kept them down. Refused to even offer them Dominion status and self-rule.
Catholicism, India may well be using institutions and technology that were inspired by the British. But in fact, it was they that worked hard to get to where they are today, and there are still many challenges that need to be tackled.
Did the British deign to offer self-rule?? No they did not. Churchill called Indians a ''beastly race with a beastly religion'' even after they sent 2.5 million of their sons to fight in WW2!!! So it's ironic now that guys like you are taking credit for the UK.
Actually you will find that William Gladstone did try to allow Home Rule and to practically create the commonwealth almost 100 years before it actually happened.
You cannot base British history around what 1 man said! Churchill said a lot of crazy things!
I know that India made a huge commitment in WW2. I have Indian friends whos grandfathers fought for the British during WW2.
What I was trying to do is make thorstry understand that good did come out of the British Empire.
Oh, can't I?? I can't base my views on the Empire on Churchill when he was considered by many in the UK to be the greatest PM?? Al Contrare....I think I can. Churchill was in the Imperialist camp in British politics, and he viewed the Empire as a good thing. And the fact that he was never reprimanded for his irresponsible, unprofessional and downright racist statement only highlights what was fundamentally wrong with the British Empire.
I'm sorry but I don't think you realise that Churchill was not alive and in charge of Britain for the entire duration of the British Empire. I said myself about William Gladstone, who is also considered one of the greatest PMs in British history. There is no such thing as a perfect human being. Every leader and every human being on this planet has said dodgy things in their lifetime. It is also ignorant to judge peoples opinions during a time where racism was a normal thing for all people.
Yes, I am aware that Churchil was not around for the duration of the Empire...After all the Imperial period had a duration of 300 years. And I'm perfectly aware that all human beings are flawed and racism was in the vogue at one time.
But....does that excuse him for insulting an Allied nation?? Yes or No? And since Churchill was one of the last PMs to preside over the Empire, then surely he was a product of that period of history and reflected the policies of the time...
Well I think that Churchill should have should a little more compassion for a fellow ally but like I said you can't really blame an aging alcoholic for being less than "politically correct" during a time when racism was more than acceptable.
There were far worse people than Churchill at that time. I don't think I need to mention the people Churchill helped get rid of in WW2!
I'm sure you are also aware that Churchill lost the general election after WW2 to Atlee who gave India "freedom".
You cannot blame an aging alcoholic, but you can blame a sitting Prime Minister. It ain't about being politically correct or even showing compassion. It's about respecting and recognizing the contributions of an ally enough to keep his big fat ugly mouth quiet if he couldn't say anything constructive.
What I'm getting at here, was that it was the policy of the Empire to keep all of these nations at a level in which they could produce resources for Britain and nothing more. So why should Britain's policies be beneficial for places like India or South Africa??
Let me take it a step further. When the Boers came to Africa, they only wanted a corner for themselves to farm and live life as they saw fit.
They weren't out to conquer all of Africa, much less the world. But the British Empire WAS out for conquest. It was the British Empire that spanned the world....
So exactly how do the Boers end up as the villains?? LOL!
Well there aren't that many people left alive to remember the British Empire.
Aparteid in South Africa at the hands of Boers however is far more recent and took place in far more liberal times.
Empires were the "in thing" back in the days of the British, Russian, ottoman, French Empires etc.
But aparteid which went right up to the end of the 20th century just seem "so last century" and barbaric. Boers seemed to evolve far slower than the rest of the Western World.
Considering the sordid past of the British Empire, that they introduced and practiced Apartheid not just in South Africa but in India and other territories as well, I would think that the apologists for the British Empire would feel enough shame to keep silent on the topic of who's civilized and who's barbaric, especially in light of the Concentration Camps that destroyed innocent women and children, not to mention the elderly.
Why if it weren't for the British Empire, maybe the Boer Republics would of become the Switzerland of Africa. Rather the British were the first to introduce Apartheid there, and then cynically throw up their hands in horror when the NP is guilty of continuing it....
In the SADF, there was an elite majority Black unit called the 32 Battalion. Ever hear of them?? They were so damn good that they were known as the shield of the South African Defense Force.
P.W. Botha never called these people ''barbarians''. In fact when their service was done, homes were built in Pomfret for the Angolans of that unit to live in...
Which brings me back to Churchill who blatantly insulted the troops of an allied nation. So who is the bigger barbarian, ehh??
As for the concentration camps, that is a different matter. Yes it was a bad thing and I don't deny it. All countries have their dark periods. But they weren't exactly nazi death camps. They were merely a concentration of Boer people who were detained untill the Boer war ended. You could say it was a "reaction" to the Boer's unconventional guerilla methods in the war.
unconventional guerillia methods ON THE BATTLEFIELD. The British went after their women and children!!!!
When there are reports of these prisoners being fed glass in their food...that is essentially condemning them to death. Just an indirect way of doing it...
Well think on the other side of the spectrum for a second.
If all the soldiers have run off and abandoned their familes and then started to use hit and run tactics on the British army, what can you do?
If the Boer men wouldn't stop their unconventional methods then the British would have to adopt unconventional methods themselves. They were brutal sure. But they worked as well.
Nope. I don't buy it. It's one thing to conduct an unvonventional method against an opposing army that outnumbers you many times over so you don't just roll over and die. That's called military planning.
Interning women, children and elderly into these outdoor camps, with no sanitation and with sabotaging their food supply....That's just mass murder, pal. There's no excuse for that.
Well it was hardly intentional murder on a mass scale. Most of the deaths were due to disease. Whole armies have been known to melt away through disease and blight. it was not an invention of the British.
Like I said though. I think the concentration camps were bad, brutal even! But Reactionary to the Boers unconventional tactics. It was either get one up on the Boers in an unconventional way or lose bitterly to a few farmers. I doubt any Commander of any country would allow that to happen.
Disease that were brought on when the Empire built these camps and occupied them with prisoners. Disease that was brought on by starvation when the Empire adopted slash and burn tactics on the Boer farms so that nobody could eat. The British had enough knowledge of science and medicine to know what would happen if you did those things to people. So again, I don't buy it.
Buy what you like. Britain wasn't the first and won't be the last.
Slash and burn. Indeed. Russia used it in WW2 and against napoleon. The US used it in Vietnam. You enjoy demonising British tactics but you will find in war "it is not right that matters, but victory".
I will mention Gladstone again. He is the perfect example. He was a pacifist and actually gave a form of Home Rule to the Boers! It was called the "Orange Free State". He expanded the Empire Ironically far more than Disraeli who actually was imperialistic. Gladstone invaded nations such as Egypt "accidently" by the fact that it wasn't planned. He was not an imperialist.
Argh! I've already explained! Don't take it literally. Accidentalist is a genuine historical view. It is when there is no set plan for an event which occurs but rather "one damn thing after the other". As in the invasions of such countries like South Africa and Egypt etc were REACTIONS to other events which occured. A reaction is not planned and so it is accidentalist. Understand??
A military operation is a military operation. An invasion is an extremely complicated action at the tactical, operational and strategic level. Whether you're the one initiating or the one reacting.
I suspect this ''accidentalist view'' is nothing more than an ''apologist view'' to justify the British Empire. I ain't drinking the koolaid there...
But don't you see where that leads?? It means that you have to get into wars and expand through all of that territory. You may have to get involved in all corners of the world...
Bomb Egypt to protect the trade...Suppose the rebellion in Egypt was armed and financed by the Ottomans?? Would you then go to War and bomb the Ottoman Empire??
That's exactly how it expanded so much. If you look at Africa you can see that it is like a straight line of countries. It was just reaction after reaction, invasion after invasion.
Well the Ottomans were British allies at that time. They gave the British Cyprus after the congress of Berlin for defending them in the Bulgarian crisis.
Same thing happened to Iran. The Shah was one of the most reactionary leaders in the Middle East. Then with the coming of the Ayatollah, they wanted to spread the good word to all of the countries.
But yeah..its just goes to show that having establishing an absolute dictatorship is only a precursor to chaos. If not sooner, later. But it is bound to happen. I am nervous as to what happens to North Korea when that regime goes down one day...
Hmm...Yes that would be interesting. I think it will take a while. The people are so indoctrinated at the moment though. They almost literally think their leaders are gods.
I believe that for revolution to occur in North Korea there needs to be a North Korean leader who attempts minor change.
What always happens when government devolves power to people?
Yeah..it makes me wonder. Maybe it will go to Hell in a Hand-basket. Not sure if all of the people think the Kims are literally Gods. But it's like the Stockholm effect, only on a much much massive scale...
Well think about it. Imagine you lived there. You have absolutely no contact with the outside world. You are taught from infancy that the leaders are practically gods and are perfect leaders who govern a perfect society.
You would probably believe it. The testimonies of many people who escaped North Korea actually said that they burst into tears when Kim Jung Sung died even though they risked their lives trying to escape from his rule. Decades of propaganda would eventually sink into anyone.
Purge, kinda hard to imagine. It's so outside my experiences but I understand what you mean. Add to it, the siege mentality that's been cultivated for several decades...and I can only imagine.
Well I would phrase it a little bit differently. It has been widely accepted that infact the British Empire expanded almost accidently. By that I mean most of the nations in the British Empire were reactions to threats against India. If you look at a map of the Empire, most of the countries in it seem to look like a massive road to India.
Yes indeed the Boers wanted land and live as "they saw fit". I don't think that justifies aparteid and opression which can still be remembered today!
Ahhhh so they accidentally send armies into India?? They accidentally accumulated all of those territories in Africa, did they?? So did those Concentration Camps just appear at out of thin air??
Please...that's just insulting everyone's intelligence. You're right the British wanted control of all access to India. But there was a conscious policy in effect to control all African territory from Cairo to the Cape. They couldn't have the small Boer Republics in the way. A pretext for murder.
Oh please. Don't take it literally! Like I said MOST of the countries which were part of the Empire were REACTIONARY effects of maintaining trade roates to India. Egypt was invaded because they threatened the suez canal (trade roate to India), South Africa was invaded because it threatened sea trade around Africa heading to India, the Zulus were attacked and their land was invaded because they threatened South Africa etc etc. I will mention Gladstone again.
Threatened for having the misfortune of existing there. Wow!!! They really were threats...I say, where are those Red Coats to drive these rapscallions out??
You used us as dumping ground with inferior products to suppress our manufacturing sector while stripping us of raw materials - fact! I find you incredibly boring, unable to read & understand your own language. It is YOU English who have been watching these videos and making negative comments! When there is retaliation you cant take it. I challenge you to go to ALL the videos, count the number of negative provocative posts by English, time they have been going on, & then talk about mine.
You are truly laughable. Same after same arguement. You hate and hate and hate untill you are totally consumed with your own ego.
I asked you to name things which made the world better. 90% of things you came up with are to do woth military. That is classic Boer talk. "War, guns, mines, tanks" and you honestly believe it makes the world better.
Classic Boer. I am not English. Your ignorance instantly assumes everything.
Are you back typical lying stinking pongo or imitation! I was not addressing you in the first place so you disguiesed yourself in typical sneak way. All English achievements are through & result of military invasion of other countires hypocrite! All you do is war, have never stopped.
So let me ask you a question, was it you or I that first made derogative and disrespectuful remarks about anothers deceased? No smoke screens just a simple answer - if you can.
Tell your 12 year old brother to get educated before he sprouts about something he obviously knowns nothign about. I dont believe that anyhow. Just answer the questions. About who started the insults and your sources of Boer atrosities which u claim gave u the right ot genocide. Anwsers please no more bs manouvering.
These videos, except for de la rey song are made by ENGLISH, BBC in particular, that is WHOLE problem here, you wish Boers had made them so that you could dismiss them. The guilt brought home to you by your OWN is heavy. Now I ask a DIRECT question, is it right to insult the memory of innocent women and children killed in a most derogative disrespectful manner. ANSWER please! Not with excuses! You are up in arms when Muslims in UK do the same about your boys hypocrite!
Longue vie au droit indéniable des peuples à disposer d'eux même! Christiaan de Wet pourrait vous en parler!

NO, IT WAS the Spanish, IN CUBA, in 1896, who INVENTED CONCENTRATION
CAMPS, about four years before the British used camps in the Anglo-
Second Boer War at the end of 1900. The Spanish camps were called
'reconcentrados' and killed about 100,000 Cuban civilians through
disease and neglect. Google for Cuba reconcentrado policy.

Get your facts straight retard
spudnick3490 6 months ago

Load of bullshit..And the British never stated it was to wipe of the Boers.

clydewell 10 months ago
@clydewell freedom from british rule. The ability to lead your own people without the influence of a foreign country. To be able to ensure the well being of the people of your country without a foreign government only looking out for its own. "Protection" lol have you seen the state of the so called "northern ireland police force" they are continuously failing the public every single day. "The right to free speach? sinn fein were banned from the media by the british government.
seanymo 10 months ago
@clydewell the right to demonstrate, republican demonstrations were consistantly attacked by R.U.C. personnel. The civil rights association was attacked by the british army and resulted in many dead and injured "bloody sunday". And even today demonstrations are banned and attacked by police. The right to vote? Irish catholics were not allowed to vote for a period and more recenty votes were gerrymandered so the british unionist government would remain in power.
seanymo 10 months ago
@seanymo Bollocks, when the British Army first went in the Catholics welcomed them but the IRA didn't want that.and threatened anyone who gave the soldiers as much as a glance. One mother was taken from her home and murdered for going to the aid of a young soldier.
You had less freedom under those murdering bastards than any British government.
Sinn Fein were just a mouthpiece for the terrorists
As for protecting who will protect the opposition ? McGuiness, Adams Huh and pigs might fly.
clydewell 10 months ago
@clydewell yes the british army were welcomed when the first went in, but they were the wrong soldiers for the job, they continuously physically abused children, murdered unarmed civilians and were involved in torture and forging documents to frame people for crimes they had not committed. i try not to blame the british soldiers but more the british government.
seanymo 10 months ago
@clydewell It was they who sent the soldier's in, it was they who ignored the plee's for reform, it was they who interned the catholic youth and it was they who insured the protestant unionist government remained in power. Sinn Fein are the political wing of the I.R.A. and seek more or less the same goals only using politics.
Of course we had less freedom because we were still ruled by a foreign government. you dont seem to know what you are talking about
seanymo 10 months ago
@clydewell In a united ireland the protestant people would have the seem power we catholics in the north do now, so if it is ok for the catholic people then it should be ok for the protestant communities too

The first Boer revolt against the British took place about 1840. British police went to arrest a Boer farmer for murdering an African farmworker he and his neighbours resisted. It was to escape this kind of tyranny that they set up their republics.

@chestermolester33 Well, that's not very nice of you to say. So there mr chester molester sir.
cal2mon 1 year ago
@cal2mon I quite agree about chester33 etc but every group has its monsters it is just fashionable to say Caucasians were worst. Bad as the Spaniards were in 16th century Mexico they got native support because they were better than the Aztec's. Hindus admit that the British were racist but still a damn sight better than the muslims they displaced. An English girl marrying a Hindu was a social outcast but a Hindu man marrying a muslim would be murdered and probably his whole family with him.

So this despicable shameful behavior was known while it was going on
MartinIDavies 2 years ago
MartinIDavies, you are right that the liberal establishment and Hobhouse's reports in particular had a huge effect in the UK. The Liberal Party also questioned the Conservatives in parliament on the matter mentioned but it was denied. I should also mention that Britain didn't END the war, the Boers eventually surrendered because of what has happened in the concentration camps and because of the effects of the scorched earth policy.
intelligencesoftware 2 years ago
@intell... true by 1901 Boers had run out of resources but the mood back in B was very anti war and the expense huge...on a cheerier note the Boers won the peace as the Republics entered the Union in 1910 with a majority dominant voting bloc.. Paradoxically the very thing that triggered the war in the first place. Nice to talk with someone with a real grasp about this awful war. FYI I am British and grew up southern Africa in the 60s and care about what is happening to white SA
MartinIDavies 2 years ago
@MartinIDavies That is true. However, those camps weren't intended to annihilate the Boers but to keep them locked away in the first place. The Brits just didn't have anything to feed them after all. It was meant to harm the Boers morale knowing their families are imprisoned and forcing them to surender. It didn't work and some 30.000 Boers died in the concentration camps.
rapartist43 1 year ago
@rapartist43 yes as you rightly point the concentration camps to pressure Boers & by destroying farms deny them supplies. This did work and the effect both imprisonment & annihilation if not by intent then by incompetence & neglect. A stain on B mostly shining reputation. I think 20% of entire Boer population murdered in this way - genocide by any stretch of the imagination. Shame on B….The only saving grace was the huge public outcry in B once conditions became known

So it's ironic now that guys like you are taking credit for the UK.
suryavajra 2 years ago
Actually you will find that William Gladstone did try to allow Home Rule and to practically create the commonwealth almost 100 years before it actually happened.
You cannot base British history around what 1 man said! Churchill said a lot of crazy things!
I know that India made a huge commitment in WW2. I have Indian friends whos grandfathers fought for the British during WW2.
What I was trying to do is make thorstry understand that good did come out of the British Empire.
Catholicism777 2 years ago
Oh, can't I?? I can't base my views on the Empire on Churchill when he was considered by many in the UK to be the greatest PM?? Al Contrare....I think I can. Churchill was in the Imperialist camp in British politics, and he viewed the Empire as a good thing. And the fact that he was never reprimanded for his irresponsible, unprofessional and downright racist statement only highlights what was fundamentally wrong with the British Empire.
suryavajra 2 years ago
I'm sorry but I don't think you realise that Churchill was not alive and in charge of Britain for the entire duration of the British Empire. I said myself about William Gladstone, who is also considered one of the greatest PMs in British history. There is no such thing as a perfect human being. Every leader and every human being on this planet has said dodgy things in their lifetime. It is also ignorant to judge peoples opinions during a time where racism was a normal thing for all people.
Catholicism777 2 years ago
Yes, I am aware that Churchil was not around for the duration of the Empire...After all the Imperial period had a duration of 300 years. And I'm perfectly aware that all human beings are flawed and racism was in the vogue at one time.
But....does that excuse him for insulting an Allied nation?? Yes or No? And since Churchill was one of the last PMs to preside over the Empire, then surely he was a product of that period of history and reflected the policies of the time...
suryavajra 2 years ago
Well I think that Churchill should have should a little more compassion for a fellow ally but like I said you can't really blame an aging alcoholic for being less than "politically correct" during a time when racism was more than acceptable.
There were far worse people than Churchill at that time. I don't think I need to mention the people Churchill helped get rid of in WW2!
I'm sure you are also aware that Churchill lost the general election after WW2 to Atlee who gave India "freedom".
Catholicism777 2 years ago
You cannot blame an aging alcoholic, but you can blame a sitting Prime Minister. It ain't about being politically correct or even showing compassion. It's about respecting and recognizing the contributions of an ally enough to keep his big fat ugly mouth quiet if he couldn't say anything constructive.
suryavajra 2 years ago
"big fat ugly mouth".... Oh come on! What are you ten years old?!
Catholicism777 2 years ago
not a all. That's just my opinion of that politician.
suryavajra 2 years ago
What I'm getting at here, was that it was the policy of the Empire to keep all of these nations at a level in which they could produce resources for Britain and nothing more. So why should Britain's policies be beneficial for places like India or South Africa??
Let me take it a step further. When the Boers came to Africa, they only wanted a corner for themselves to farm and live life as they saw fit.
suryavajra 2 years ago
They weren't out to conquer all of Africa, much less the world. But the British Empire WAS out for conquest. It was the British Empire that spanned the world....
So exactly how do the Boers end up as the villains?? LOL!
suryavajra 2 years ago
Well there aren't that many people left alive to remember the British Empire.
Aparteid in South Africa at the hands of Boers however is far more recent and took place in far more liberal times.
Empires were the "in thing" back in the days of the British, Russian, ottoman, French Empires etc.
But aparteid which went right up to the end of the 20th century just seem "so last century" and barbaric. Boers seemed to evolve far slower than the rest of the Western World.
That's my opinion.

Considering the sordid past of the British Empire, that they introduced and practiced Apartheid not just in South Africa but in India and other territories as well, I would think that the apologists for the British Empire would feel enough shame to keep silent on the topic of who's civilized and who's barbaric, especially in light of the Concentration Camps that destroyed innocent women and children, not to mention the elderly.
suryavajra 2 years ago
Why if it weren't for the British Empire, maybe the Boer Republics would of become the Switzerland of Africa. Rather the British were the first to introduce Apartheid there, and then cynically throw up their hands in horror when the NP is guilty of continuing it....
In the SADF, there was an elite majority Black unit called the 32 Battalion. Ever hear of them?? They were so damn good that they were known as the shield of the South African Defense Force.
suryavajra 2 years ago
P.W. Botha never called these people ''barbarians''. In fact when their service was done, homes were built in Pomfret for the Angolans of that unit to live in...
Which brings me back to Churchill who blatantly insulted the troops of an allied nation. So who is the bigger barbarian, ehh??
suryavajra 2 years ago
As for the concentration camps, that is a different matter. Yes it was a bad thing and I don't deny it. All countries have their dark periods. But they weren't exactly nazi death camps. They were merely a concentration of Boer people who were detained untill the Boer war ended. You could say it was a "reaction" to the Boer's unconventional guerilla methods in the war.
Catholicism777 2 years ago
unconventional guerillia methods ON THE BATTLEFIELD. The British went after their women and children!!!!
When there are reports of these prisoners being fed glass in their food...that is essentially condemning them to death. Just an indirect way of doing it...
suryavajra 2 years ago
Well think on the other side of the spectrum for a second.
If all the soldiers have run off and abandoned their familes and then started to use hit and run tactics on the British army, what can you do?
If the Boer men wouldn't stop their unconventional methods then the British would have to adopt unconventional methods themselves. They were brutal sure. But they worked as well.
Catholicism777 2 years ago
There's no excuse for that.
suryavajra 2 years ago
**unconventional
suryavajra 2 years ago
Well it was hardly intentional murder on a mass scale. Most of the deaths were due to disease. Whole armies have been known to melt away through disease and blight. it was not an invention of the British.
Like I said though. I think the concentration camps were bad, brutal even! But Reactionary to the Boers unconventional tactics. It was either get one up on the Boers in an unconventional way or lose bitterly to a few farmers. I doubt any Commander of any country would allow that to happen.
Catholicism777 2 years ago
Disease that were brought on when the Empire built these camps and occupied them with prisoners. Disease that was brought on by starvation when the Empire adopted slash and burn tactics on the Boer farms so that nobody could eat. The British had enough knowledge of science and medicine to know what would happen if you did those things to people. So again, I don't buy it.
suryavajra 2 years ago

Catholicism777 2 years ago
Yeah, whatever....

"Yeah, whatever"??
Wow... I guess I did overestimate you.

How the hell do you accidentally invade a nation?? That's why I say, whatever.....LOL!
suryavajra 2 years ago
Catholicism777 2 years ago
No...
A military operation is a military operation. An invasion is an extremely complicated action at the tactical, operational and strategic level. Whether you're the one initiating or the one reacting.
I suspect this ''accidentalist view'' is nothing more than an ''apologist view'' to justify the British Empire. I ain't drinking the koolaid there...
suryavajra 2 years ago
Back in those days it wasn't that complicated really.
There was a rebellion in Egypt
That threatens the suez canal
That threatens trade to India
Must bomb the shit out of Egypt to protect that trade.
I suggest you look it up rather than assuming. There are two views you can give when you study history. An Accidentalist view and a Determinist view.
Catholicism777 2 years ago
But don't you see where that leads?? It means that you have to get into wars and expand through all of that territory. You may have to get involved in all corners of the world...
Bomb Egypt to protect the trade...Suppose the rebellion in Egypt was armed and financed by the Ottomans?? Would you then go to War and bomb the Ottoman Empire??
suryavajra 2 years ago
That's exactly how it expanded so much. If you look at Africa you can see that it is like a straight line of countries. It was just reaction after reaction, invasion after invasion.
Well the Ottomans were British allies at that time. They gave the British Cyprus after the congress of Berlin for defending them in the Bulgarian crisis.
Catholicism777 2 years ago
Yeah, come to think of it, they were. The British defended the Otrtoman Empire in the Crimean War...
suryavajra 2 years ago
Yep. It was the old saying "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". The British hated the Russians more than the Turks.
Catholicism777 2 years ago
The British had their own Cold War with the Russians back then
suryavajra 2 years ago
Oh absolutely. Not as intense as the US vs USSR one though. All it took was an old Jew and a train to crush the Russians in the late 1800s
Catholicism777 2 years ago
Except Russia goes from being the go-to power for Reactionary movements to being the leader of Revolutionary movmements...
suryavajra 2 years ago
Very true. Seems kind of ironic thinking about it.
Extreme defender of the landed aristocracy one day... One of the most extreme Socialist nations in history on the next
Catholicism777 2 years ago
Same thing happened to Iran. The Shah was one of the most reactionary leaders in the Middle East. Then with the coming of the Ayatollah, they wanted to spread the good word to all of the countries.
But yeah..its just goes to show that having establishing an absolute dictatorship is only a precursor to chaos. If not sooner, later. But it is bound to happen. I am nervous as to what happens to North Korea when that regime goes down one day...
suryavajra 2 years ago
Hmm...Yes that would be interesting. I think it will take a while. The people are so indoctrinated at the moment though. They almost literally think their leaders are gods.
I believe that for revolution to occur in North Korea there needs to be a North Korean leader who attempts minor change.
What always happens when government devolves power to people?
The people demand more power.
Catholicism777 2 years ago
Yeah..it makes me wonder. Maybe it will go to Hell in a Hand-basket. Not sure if all of the people think the Kims are literally Gods. But it's like the Stockholm effect, only on a much much massive scale...
suryavajra 2 years ago
Well think about it. Imagine you lived there. You have absolutely no contact with the outside world. You are taught from infancy that the leaders are practically gods and are perfect leaders who govern a perfect society.
You would probably believe it. The testimonies of many people who escaped North Korea actually said that they burst into tears when Kim Jung Sung died even though they risked their lives trying to escape from his rule. Decades of propaganda would eventually sink into anyone.
PurgeTheUnclean88 2 years ago
Purge, kinda hard to imagine. It's so outside my experiences but I understand what you mean. Add to it, the siege mentality that's been cultivated for several decades...and I can only imagine.
suryavajra 2 years ago
What about the USSR? I would consider that a Russian empire.
Catholicism777 2 years ago
So it is. I will take it a step further and say that the People's Republic of China is the Chinese Empire.
suryavajra 2 years ago
Indeed. Indeed.
Catholicism777 2 years ago
Well I would phrase it a little bit differently. It has been widely accepted that infact the British Empire expanded almost accidently. By that I mean most of the nations in the British Empire were reactions to threats against India. If you look at a map of the Empire, most of the countries in it seem to look like a massive road to India.
Yes indeed the Boers wanted land and live as "they saw fit". I don't think that justifies aparteid and opression which can still be remembered today!
Catholicism777 2 years ago
Ahhhh so they accidentally send armies into India?? They accidentally accumulated all of those territories in Africa, did they?? So did those Concentration Camps just appear at out of thin air??
Please...that's just insulting everyone's intelligence. You're right the British wanted control of all access to India. But there was a conscious policy in effect to control all African territory from Cairo to the Cape. They couldn't have the small Boer Republics in the way. A pretext for murder.
suryavajra 2 years ago
Please don't play stupid.
Catholicism777 2 years ago
Threatened for having the misfortune of existing there. Wow!!! They really were threats...I say, where are those Red Coats to drive these rapscallions out??

You used us as dumping ground with inferior products to suppress our manufacturing sector while stripping us of raw materials - fact! I find you incredibly boring, unable to read & understand your own language. It is YOU English who have been watching these videos and making negative comments! When there is retaliation you cant take it. I challenge you to go to ALL the videos, count the number of negative provocative posts by English, time they have been going on, & then talk about mine.

Typical fat white South African.

Apartheid was a legacy of the English who referred to Boers as common peasants who fraternized with the kaffirs (English word used extensively)
You have the temerity to say I go on at length, the person who provoked this went on for four months!

All I have learned is that no Boer is worth talking to because all there is to recieve is insults, arrogance and blind hate.
I would say good day but after the abuse you gave me for no good reason I couldn't care less if you got hit by lightning.
