Former heavyweight world champion Joe Frazier was arrested in February 2004 after police responded to a 911 domestic violence call from his North Philadelphia home. When police arrived a woman, the mother of Frazier's son, answered the door. She told the police that Frazier had hit her and there were injuries to her face to back up the claim. The charges were later dropped, after the woman refused to testify against Frazier.
@aaroncassidy7 i still think that left look like it rocked him a bit and he possibly couldve fell without the wetness in the corner, tough call for the ref
These two guys went through hell together. Truly two of the best big men off all time in a day when the heavyweight title really was the most prestigious in all of sport.
Joe, if it were'nt for that damn hog chasin you down at home, your hurtin your left arm for life, you could have connected with a few more of those lefts', but your left arm would'nt stretch that far, rest in peace Joe,we love you.
I;ve watched this fight over 200 times - based on rounds. which was the scoring ststem of the fight. I can't see how Ali didn''t win least 7 rounds - probably 8 and got a shitty score card - closest was 8-6-1. I think one judge had it 11-4! Fraziers rounds were bigger for Joe, but a round is a round and one could easily argue Ali should have won more rounds>
joes natural fight stance got his face pummeled by ali's jab. ali's height and joe kind of bent over the way he faught made it easy for muhammad to tag his ass repeatedly with that jab.
the only problem with frazier was he never knew how to finish a man. If he was a better finisher he would of finished Ali in round 11 in this fight and in manila.
Frazier gets round 8 easily. Ali looks exhausted and trying to rest. He got wasted in round 9, in Ali's biggest round. Round 10 was also easily Ali's. Frazier just took a beating again. Round 11 was Frazier's biggest round. Ali had no control of his legs. After 11, I have it 8-3 Ali, and don't see any round that could have gone either way.
fuck all of u ali fans the greatest of my ass ali shoulb be diqualified at the second fite for grabing the neck all night and joe won the thrilla in manilla, he couldnt see and wanted to continue wile ali said to his corner to cut the gloves
ali is a great fighter but man frazier toughest all of u ali fans are just bunch of sheep, in the ali film with will smith they didnt want to add the thrilla in manilla coz they know frazier was da hero
I hate these assholes on here who say 'deal with it' cause Ali lost, deal with it? wtf is that supposed to mean, because we are showing a passion for a fighter we like, that lost a fight and to have some random dick tell you to deal with it? go fuck yourselfs. I mean Ali lost, sure, it dont effect my life. But to those assholes, next time your fav fighter or team or anything you like looses, fucking deal with it.
unbelievable to watch frazier who is as fit in the 11th round as he was in the first. that speed, that hand movement and the upper body movin up and down, maybe a 100000000 times. every other boxer would probably have died right on the spot.
Joe Frazier je operisan od tehnike ali kondicijelno dobar, glup, izdrzljiv i uporan. Takva kombinacija je jedan puta bila dovoljna za Alija i nijedan puta za Foremana!
@mjdoomreviews landing punches is a big part of scoring. Yes power does count but how can you give round to frazier when he threw only 20 punches with 3 power shots while Ali landed 50 good solid jabs?
As i said before i invite any one to show where i have made mistake and im willing to change my scoring but according to the current scoring Ali is the winner
@324582782 I totally agree, I totally had Ali winning this fight, I mean Frazier may have scored a few left hooks and worked his body, but Ali's overall workrate and punches landed, totally wins this fight.
1:40 Ali looks confused rope a dope was meant to have the opponent swinging all he had Frazier seemed to be just counting his punches before unloading to the head.
whats one difference about this ali and the ali before the layoff is when he goes to punch its like he's in slow motion for 1/2 second before the punch is thrown in other words from the moment his brain says punch until he actually throws there is a split second delay.. has anyone else noticed this?
Can't help but wonder, what if they didn't take Ali's career away for those three "prime" years, he would have met Frazier around late '68 or '69 sometime. Ali would have been able to dance more, but even he has said that he couldn't take a big shot til he was older. Frazier's path would have been much different as well. Just wondering. Joe kicked his ass in the fight , beat him up good
I think Ali was playing possum during some of the time he was "hurt". I know he was hurt initially but when he staggered in to the ropes and then backed up like he was dazed and weary @ 12 : 25, I think he was trying to get Frazier to expose himself.
@primeboxers I was too late after I posted it I saw there feet. I keep lookin at it and I feel like it was. Maybe cause I like Fraziers left hook so much .Lol
@0808lion Yes, I agree. This fight reminded me of the 1983 New York marathon when British runner Geoff Smith built up a huge lead. However, New Zealand runner Rod Dixon gradually pulled back his lead and won the race in the later stages. Ali for me though was the greatest ever. People remember him for his skill, speed and ring-craft. What he's less remembered for is his unbelievable toughness. How the hell he survived that 11th round I'll never know!
@Gr33nNdY3llow A knockdown occurs when a boxer, after being hit by his opponent: 1) touches the ring floor with some part of his body other than the feet; 2) has any part of his body outside the ropes; 3) is hanging on the ropes helplessly; or 4) is judged to be in a semi-conscious state and unable to continue fighting.
@bethoveenzeyad No, not the world.....just you because you don't know boxing.
You're wasting sadness on a figment of your imagination....now wake up & smell the coffee! Ali lost this fight, believe it. It wasn't because he was a muslim or that the white establishment hated his guts. It was because Frazier pummelled his sorry arse more than he pummelled his....believe it.
Ali won the 2nd clear enough...the 3rd because he survived the heat better than a blind Frazier. All were close.
@bethoveenzeyad Frazier broke Ali's jaw and he had to spend time recuperating in hospital. Also Frazier won rounds 6,7,8,11,12,13,15 with a knockdown, keep in mind round 10 was even and through the fight frazier landed the harder punches AND got a knockdown yh he very legitimately won the fight.
@bethoveenzeyad You dont know what the hell you're watching, its clear to all those who now boxing that Frazier won those rounds and the fight. Ali didnt win "clear" in round 10 at all. Youre just biased in favour of him
@bethoveenzeyad frazier didnt win that many rounds but he won most rounds, theres no way ali won round 10 that was even and i dont know where this "block" thing ur talking bout comes from, ali didnt block punches. and he clealy lost rd 11 frazier landed harder punches and was aggressor
@liljoerox He's tired, that's why he was clinching & clowning. Only a boxer like Ali could do that & get away with it.
Joe tired him out by relentlessly pressuring him....he ate lots of punches doing it but tired Ali right out and landed the bulk of the hard punches and a mountain of body punches.
Everybody is talking about "dance like a butterfly and sting like a bee" when old Ali Fights are showing. But have you seen in this fight ,what this man was able to took, without went really down. Amazing!! Anybody else had lost this fight by TKO! ALI is the greatest Champ ever standing in the ring even when he lost!!! Greetings from Germany
@Nemesis2151 yeah, I searched for it too, and was very surprised that this one wasn't uploaded. So when I finally found a copy of it, I uploaded it. :D
Damn, imagine how it was to watch this fight. Nobody in the 11 years before, even Sonny Liston and Floyd Patterson, could touch Ali and now you watch this frazier who beats the shit out of him.
If you look closely, it did look like Ali tripped over Joe's foot as he staggered forward but it's easy to mistake it as a knockdown as it happens right after Frazier hits him with the left hook. Had Joe's foot not been there, Ali probably would have staggered a bit (like he did in round 11) but not gone down. A good call by Arthur Mercante.
@SigfrigKargElert frazier had a reason. his health completely deteriorated. he had high blood pressure and diabetes. As well as severe athritic hands that had to get treatment for and his right eye was 95 percent blind. imagine frazier without all that.
@HiMyNameIsRoss Frazier ended up with all those problems as a result of this fight. I din't believe Joe's excuse about being thumbed in the eye by a sparring partner.
Ali had a hard time hitting Frazier with a right uppercut but Foreman had him down several times with one, is that because Frazier's bob and weave in 1971 is better than 1973 or because Foreman throws a different uppercut than Ali?
@supersquid98 it is because he was better in '71, the fight with Ali really took alot out of Frazier.
Foreman once said this: "After beating Muhammad Ali, there was not much left of Joe Frazier. I'm gonna tell you, if I had fought him two years earlier, it would not have been like that."
I don't understand how he was able to pull the Thrilla in Manila out of his hat...
@primeboxers Pure fighting heart I think....that's all I can come up with. I remember the second fight too, another classic, Ali won that one and boxed beautifully but Frazier again pushed him to it.
Joe was a pretty seasoned fighter when he won the title, I do recall he was around when Liston, Williams and all those other top boxers of the sixties were at the top. He earned his shot for sure!
A great era in boxing! So glad to have been around to see it.
@supersquid98 great question. Think theres a few things @ play here. 1) fighters w/Frazier bulldog constant pressure style never really seem to have much success in their later years (e.g. Frazier, Tyson). Unlike "boxers" (e.g. Ali, Holmes). Not sure why, though I have some theories. Anyway, this was Frazier's prime. Best shape of his life. Its downhill from here. 2) Ali's/Frazier's styles compliment each others. They're a good match up. Foreman/Frazier? Not so much. Foreman is too overwhelming.
It's because being a pressure fighter is a lot harder then being a boxer, you alwways have to be in peak physical shape. Your constantly bobbing and weaving, and moving forward all while throwing lots of punches, as well as eating lots of punches too in some cases. Its really a fighting style designed for younger fighters.
@iiuh1 that's right, when a pressure fighter gets a little older he cannot do it aswell as he used to, frazier was burned out after 12 years, but a boxer like ali and holmes can go on for 20-30 years.
like you said; pressure fighting is only effective when you are young.
@iiuh1 Exactly, eating punches to get in and throw to the body is not a healthy way to fight. But boy, it's exciting to watch when someone like Joe does it so well. Against lesser fighters then Ali it's not so damaging but Ali was such an accurate puncher and had more then sufficient power to make Joe feel the accumulated weight of it all. Joe earnt his $2 million or so that night!
@supersquid98 Ali never threw a correct uppercut in his career. Eddie Futch knew it & wasn't concerned. Futch also saw a change in Frazier training for Foreman. He wasn't training hard in the usual Frazier mode. Frazier underestimated Foreman. So it was a bit of both to answer the question.

im very sad for you
bethoveenzeyad 7 months ago
@bethoveenzeyad No, not the world.....just you because you don't know boxing.
You're wasting sadness on a figment of your imagination....now wake up & smell the coffee! Ali lost this fight, believe it. It wasn't because he was a muslim or that the white establishment hated his guts. It was because Frazier pummelled his sorry arse more than he pummelled his....believe it.
Ali won the 2nd clear enough...the 3rd because he survived the heat better than a blind Frazier. All were close.
ragers66 7 months ago
@ragers66
will can you tell me witch rounds frazier won in this fight ???? if you can write pleas
frazier pummelled !! thats why frazier face so badly he near to lost his 2 eyes and blood all his face
and ali very clean face
bethoveenzeyad 7 months ago
@bethoveenzeyad Frazier broke Ali's jaw and he had to spend time recuperating in hospital. Also Frazier won rounds 6,7,8,11,12,13,15 with a knockdown, keep in mind round 10 was even and through the fight frazier landed the harder punches AND got a knockdown yh he very legitimately won the fight.
kenomy66 7 months ago
@kenomy66

bethoveenzeyad 7 months ago
@bethoveenzeyad You dont know what the hell you're watching, its clear to all those who now boxing that Frazier won those rounds and the fight. Ali didnt win "clear" in round 10 at all. Youre just biased in favour of him
kenomy66 7 months ago

bethoveenzeyad 7 months ago
@bethoveenzeyad frazier didnt win that many rounds but he won most rounds, theres no way ali won round 10 that was even and i dont know where this "block" thing ur talking bout comes from, ali didnt block punches. and he clealy lost rd 11 frazier landed harder punches and was aggressor
kenomy66 7 months ago
when Ali hits back this is a fun fight but he just seems like he can't be bothered to fight, all he wants to do is clinch
liljoerox 1 year ago

Eddie futch sent Frazier out with perfect tactics to beat Ali here! Futch used the same kind of tactics with norton when he fought him
hearns00001 1 year ago
Damn, imagine how it was to watch this fight. Nobody in the 11 years before, even Sonny Liston and Floyd Patterson, could touch Ali and now you watch this frazier who beats the shit out of him.

DaNnYnlufc 1 year ago
@DaNnYnlufc look at their feet!
primeboxers 1 year ago
If you look closely, it did look like Ali tripped over Joe's foot as he staggered forward but it's easy to mistake it as a knockdown as it happens right after Frazier hits him with the left hook. Had Joe's foot not been there, Ali probably would have staggered a bit (like he did in round 11) but not gone down. A good call by Arthur Mercante.

@musiclover3928 that's what he said. Frazier was dominant, that means he was dominating.... not dominated!

@SigfrigKargElert frazier had a reason. his health completely deteriorated. he had high blood pressure and diabetes. As well as severe athritic hands that had to get treatment for and his right eye was 95 percent blind. imagine frazier without all that.
HiMyNameIsRoss 1 year ago
@HiMyNameIsRoss Frazier ended up with all those problems as a result of this fight. I din't believe Joe's excuse about being thumbed in the eye by a sparring partner.

Great video and quality. One of the greatest fights of all time.
supersquid98 1 year ago
Ali had a hard time hitting Frazier with a right uppercut but Foreman had him down several times with one, is that because Frazier's bob and weave in 1971 is better than 1973 or because Foreman throws a different uppercut than Ali?
supersquid98 1 year ago
@supersquid98 it is because he was better in '71, the fight with Ali really took alot out of Frazier.
Foreman once said this: "After beating Muhammad Ali, there was not much left of Joe Frazier. I'm gonna tell you, if I had fought him two years earlier, it would not have been like that."
I don't understand how he was able to pull the Thrilla in Manila out of his hat...
primeboxers 1 year ago
@primeboxers Pure fighting heart I think....that's all I can come up with. I remember the second fight too, another classic, Ali won that one and boxed beautifully but Frazier again pushed him to it.
Joe was a pretty seasoned fighter when he won the title, I do recall he was around when Liston, Williams and all those other top boxers of the sixties were at the top. He earned his shot for sure!
A great era in boxing! So glad to have been around to see it.
ragers66 7 months ago
@supersquid98 great question. Think theres a few things @ play here. 1) fighters w/Frazier bulldog constant pressure style never really seem to have much success in their later years (e.g. Frazier, Tyson). Unlike "boxers" (e.g. Ali, Holmes). Not sure why, though I have some theories. Anyway, this was Frazier's prime. Best shape of his life. Its downhill from here. 2) Ali's/Frazier's styles compliment each others. They're a good match up. Foreman/Frazier? Not so much. Foreman is too overwhelming.
SigfridKargElert 1 year ago
@SigfridKargElert I agree 100%, this is why marciano decided to retire, he could sense what was ahead and he didn't like it.
primeboxers 1 year ago
@SigfridKargElert
It's because being a pressure fighter is a lot harder then being a boxer, you alwways have to be in peak physical shape. Your constantly bobbing and weaving, and moving forward all while throwing lots of punches, as well as eating lots of punches too in some cases. Its really a fighting style designed for younger fighters.
iiuh1 1 year ago
@iiuh1 that's right, when a pressure fighter gets a little older he cannot do it aswell as he used to, frazier was burned out after 12 years, but a boxer like ali and holmes can go on for 20-30 years.
like you said; pressure fighting is only effective when you are young.
primeboxers 1 year ago
@iiuh1 Exactly, eating punches to get in and throw to the body is not a healthy way to fight. But boy, it's exciting to watch when someone like Joe does it so well. Against lesser fighters then Ali it's not so damaging but Ali was such an accurate puncher and had more then sufficient power to make Joe feel the accumulated weight of it all. Joe earnt his $2 million or so that night!
ragers66 7 months ago
@supersquid98 Ali never threw a correct uppercut in his career. Eddie Futch knew it & wasn't concerned. Futch also saw a change in Frazier training for Foreman. He wasn't training hard in the usual Frazier mode. Frazier underestimated Foreman. So it was a bit of both to answer the question.
