i really like the dynamics, but like everyone else said i wish there were dissonant chords. But i don't blame the singers or the composer, it's all part of the interpretation, and as a musician i appreciate it. Good job. :) (even though this videos is 4 years old already :b)

I have rarely heard any vocal ensemble come close to hitting harmonies so perfect as to create the overtones that mix with the dissonant chords so well in the computerized version. Better blending would make this performance much better, and it is definitely missing something without the dissonant chords. Tough to sing...

@serafinic It's actually easier than you think. The keyboard she plays controls a vocoder so all she has to do is play the harmonies on the keyboard. I guess it's pretty hard to play piano and sing at the same time, but it's not crazy-hard and people do it all the time.
@serafinic Nah then the converters amazing... Since it isnt her doing the voices... She sings just like one of these people, if not worse... Heard her live, she has a beautiful voice but it isnt always tone/pitch perfect. Shes just a good vocalist with a very artistic mind and ear :)
@serafinic there's nothing crazy about it - it's called a harmonizer and the way it works is actually extremely simple. On the other hand, I'd say it's pretty damn crazy that 12 singers can recreate this song, despite the fact that they made it more harmonious than disharmonious compared to the original. It takes a lot of practice, a lot of coordination and a huge amount of skill to be able to do what these guys did.
I love the original, but this is the best a capella version I've found so far.
It was really accurate harmonically until the climax of the song which is the "mmm whatcha say" part lol when the melody got a little lost in the harmonies. But that's probably bc of the stage position of the tenors.

@LProcker9798 You're right. The dissonant chords are what tug on your heartstrings and make your chest feel tight. This is pretty but lacks the emotional impact. Then again, when you've got several people of different ranges singing together, they tend to harmonize naturally.
i liked the choreography. anyone who has studied music would be able to hear the difference in blends every time they switch positions. it was really good.
I think the choreography could have something to do with getting the right levels on the mic for certain parts, but I could be wrong. It may just be random.
great consonants! Wish for more powerful/moving dynamics, but I understand this can be difficult when you're all moving around slash without a director right in front of you...
Having watched this video over a dozen times, there is no denying its power...Seeing that it won "Best Arrangement" leads me to believe that this talented group chose to perform it in a different key and not in the "wrong" key !
Their blend is beautiful and they're clearly an excellent group, but I really don't feel as though the arrangement captures the intensity and general feeling of the original work.

I'd say they did well on the chorus, but the rest just feels flat compared to Imogens original or even the rehearsal version.
"The takeover, the sweeping insensitivity" part was close too.
Regardless, sounded great and I'm thankful they executed it and shared with us :)

after listening again,
"the takeover" through "insensitivity" is AWESOME as far as dynamics.
I wish the following "hide and seek" was softer, though
and that the end was drawn out more, into ppppp

great consonants! Wish for more powerful/moving dynamics, but I understand this can be difficult when you're all moving around slash without a director right in front of you...

Having watched this video over a dozen times, there is no denying its power...Seeing that it won "Best Arrangement" leads me to believe that this talented group chose to perform it in a different key and not in the "wrong" key !

Their blend is beautiful and they're clearly an excellent group, but I really don't feel as though the arrangement captures the intensity and general feeling of the original work.

yeah at first the different key threw me off but I got over it, and decided that this is gorgeous. love it! I want to be in a group that would sing this song. lol none of my choirs sing this kind of music.
