  • mmmmm its ok

  • shit, i got goosebumps all over my body! this is absolutely AMAZING, love it!!<3

  • It's nice to hear an arrangement which isn't purely a direct copy of the augmented chords over 5ths.You really need to watch your balance within the group, the perfect way to get good balance is to really listen to the main melody, and be sensitive to whether the harmonies enhance or detract from certain points in the melody. At certain points in this piece, whoever is singing the third above the main melody and falling down to the tonic is too loud, especially at the beginning.

  • 2:29 is absolutely amazing.

  • @NebraskaBoy12

I love this so much. Would you feel okay with me converting it in to an mp3 for my ipod?

  • im choked up....this is amazing amazing amazing. :')

  • easily the best choral recording... you guys are fantastic

  • You guys are freaking godly. Ik its not Imogen but still its AMAZING. Keep it up guys.

  • Awesome arrangement, are you guys music instructors?

  • I am playing this at my funeral.

  • @Ledmaster2 lolol

  • je suis ne a montreal! McGill for lifeeeeee

  • amazing

  • "you won't catch me around here" caught me by surprise...and i loved it.

  • @lejgi you can get it somewhere as I'm doing this in my Vocal Group!

  • I'm having one of I'm-so-lucky-to-be-putting-this-into-my-ears moments. Beautiful job (:

  • Nobody can reach Imogen.

  • @NebraskaBoy12 We weren't trying to. :)

  • @emyjaymac You did pretty well though!!! Considering this was a live performance, no editing, its amazing! Great voices

  • Yeah i can see what all the people are getting at. there's alot more of the chords like moving around beneath the vocals in the original. Whereas this is like a sweeping chorus of voices.

  • If you listen to the original and this together, all of the dissonances are included in this version, they don't clash as much because these are individual human voices instead of one voice with the same timbre being split into different frequencies. They also play down different notes more than others so the clash isn't as strong. It's just the difference between what the electronic equipment is doing versus what natural human voices together sound like.

  • The "that it's all for the best" part sounded really bad in my ears

  • My band is covering this song at our next show (on a roof xD) I wish I could get this choir :/

  • i really like that high soprano who did the blood and tears part and the ending hide and seek part very beautiful

    great job

  • i really like the dynamics, but like everyone else said i wish there were dissonant chords. But i don't blame the singers or the composer, it's all part of the interpretation, and as a musician i appreciate it. Good job. :) (even though this videos is 4 years old already :b)

  • Great arrangement! (though I do like the dischords in the original a lot more.) This choir did an amazing job and it's nice to hear an some talented singers do this song for a change.

  • me likey the baritones. keep it up boys

  • Those guys were amazing. I totally got chills and realized I was holding my breath at one point.

  • Sop1: YOU ROCK!

  • fuuuuu goosebumps

  • 2:27 is CRAZY! Choreography and shriek are GREAT! Greetings from Brazil ;)

  • Give credit where its due! This is an excellent choral arrangement of the song (could use a bit of polishing in some areas but good nevertheless) and was preformed well. When Immie sings this, she has her mic linked to a midi unit attached to her keyboard, which allows her voice to mesh with an electronic duplicate synthesized through chords played on her keyboard to produce the dissonant sounds that your'e used to. The human voice can't immitate a synthesizer, so its not going to be perfect.

  • I have rarely heard any vocal ensemble come close to hitting harmonies so perfect as to create the overtones that mix with the dissonant chords so well in the computerized version. Better blending would make this performance much better, and it is definitely missing something without the dissonant chords. Tough to sing...

  • this would be good... but the parts are reeeeeeeaalllllly uneven. realy really uneven.

  • Different key, different arrangement. This sounds nothing like the orig.

  • @Schnitzer17 And it doesn't have to.

  • They look like robots doing a rehearsal.Seriously loosen up and sing the song.Don't rehearse it and make it sound rehearsed. You end up screwing up more the making it sound natural plus the vocal cords can become stressed.3 STARS FOR EFFORT THOUGH.

  • sucks. its boring. doesnt have rythm. no purpose. NOT IMOGEN HEAP!!

  • Where's the melody in the beginning of the song? You just can hear the soprani repeating the same note, that's NOT the melody. Also, and it's probably not your fault, since when is necessary to have a coreography to sing in a chorus? The first time you sing "hide and seek" you should try to mimic more the chord progression Imogen does, it's really interesting, and it's not waht you're singing. Of course you can call it an "arrangement" but you are singing practically exactly what she plays. Chau

  • it sounds beautiful but is it me or does the girl seem to mess up when she goes high up 2:26? this is kinda bothering me lol

  • a bit soprano heavy in the beginning, but otherwise, splendid.

  • Epic work guys. You have done yourselves, the arranger, and Imogen very proud.

I like it so much you get a smiley face :)

  • This version is great, but I think it has taken away a lot of the dissonant chords that make this song great. The performance and choreo are very well done. In regards to arrangement and dynamics though, I think the UNC Achordants did it better.

  • @kares21 agreed!!!!

  • PLEASE record it properly! Even if you give it away free! I'm sure Imogen Heap wouldn't mind - she always said that once her music is out there, its out!

It would be so beautiful recorded properly! x

  • I feel bad for the guy who was filmed behind the balloons for, like, half the movie. :/

  • I'm a snobbish music professional with perfect pitch so I'm gonna use big words to describe the flaws in this rendition , like bass undertones and chord roots, to make myself seem better than everybody else.... PLEASE PEOPLE!

This is art, and art is not about perfection... It's about interpreting things your own way. This was an amazing rendition of the song, so stop being so over-critical with your pompous remarks...

    That is all.

  • goosebumps, imogen heap would be very VERY impresseD!

  • What a great version! Fair play!

  • What a great version of that song! I never leave comments on this thing but it was worth the time!

  • she is amazing, the modules are amazing, her use of the modules is amazing, and the composition and arrangement are amazing.

i have a brass version i did myself on soundcloud.

i'm blown away by all these independent choral arrangements, and this one is very well performed. gotta love that soprano nailing the top notes so cleanly.

  • veryyyyy good

  • Why wouldn't you want to share such a beautiful arrangement?

  • @vicki221

    Copyright issues

  • It's pretty crazy that this group could basically perform this song the same way, with only 13 singers and no piano or voice converter.

  • 2:46 - 3:15 is why music makes me smile and why music makes me love

  • i like how everyone just stares at the girl at 2:32

  • @Idefenestrateyou94 XD ME TOO!!!!

  • Why isn't this arrangement for sale?

  • i just love it!!!!! it's so great!

  • the lower parts really need to come out. way too much high

  • GOOSEBUMPS! This is great. and the soprano: fantastic.

  • the beginning sounded a little off, but i love it nonetheless. great job :)

  • You absolutetly are great, but there's not enough of man-voice. But I like it. :)

  • I just got tons of goosebumps.... May not be the original, but it's beautiful nontheless

  • wish the video or the vid description would at least mention imogen heap

  • ohgall, this is gorgeous!! Kudos to each and every one in the choir!

    ~Imp~

  • im lovingg the vibrado.

  • The bass section was way too weak. It brought the entire arrangement down, in my opinion. A good part of the original song is the huge bass undertones and chord roots.

And the whole "you won't catch me around here" done by the bass... I have to admit that was truly awful.

However, I do like this video :D

  • it was great. these singers are very talented, but i have just one issue. the girl in the middle who sang the "blood and tears" was great, she just sounded akward.

  • i would die to get this arrangement so i can sing it with my choir.

Wonderful! I say Well done to the arranger.

And all you people with complains, think of it like this:

At least they made an a cappella version. Perhaps it´s not exactly like the original but that´s because the original was made for one voice with the transposer or whatever it´s called. So just go with it or make a better version yourself.

  • By the way, I'm not tone deaf, I heard the small mistakes and from my experience, they were due to nervousness.

  • While I must say, the singers are talented, I hate this arrangement. It doesn't even sound appealing.

  • you guys are amazing. Imogen is my absolute favoirite artist and you definatly do her song justice! Im a choir boy from way back and i can really appriciate this performance. :)

  • VUVUZUELAS!

  • Dynamics could be better. I kept waiting for it to get louder. Lovely Soprano.

  • Beautiful!

  • That girl in the middle hit that high note so flawlessly! Even coming down from it was sooo smooth... just gorgeous. Mmm.

  • Very nicely done. Though I don't appreciate the change of key so much

  • Beautiful, well done!

  • It is a nice song, and the performance is good as well.. But I don't like how you have changed the disconances and most of the high notes were sung toooo hard and toooo high!! ( i think thats because she is a bit scared for it..) Anyway, very nice try but no one can do it as imogen.. *sorry for bad English;)

  • This is a beautiful arrangement. I listen to it and it makes me feel good every time!

  • girl in the middle is my hero!!!!

  • lsdkaurasifjsldkjfjsd lfjsdlkfjsdlfjsdlfsdjfls GAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!!!! Amazing.. -_- If i were in that room i would proooooooobably be crying or on the floor have a seizure out of amazment. Which ever came first lol you guys are amazing. ESPECIALLY the girl in the middle who hit that note up in the stratosphere! I envy you guys.

  • Damn, very very good. If only Ryan and Marissa were here. . .

  • The dissonance with the clashing chords is what make Hide and Seek such an incredible song. No doubt they're great singers, but this is a horrible composition.

  • def. one of the best performances of this song i have heard....one time for the red head and her high in tune notes... .... i loved it

  • I'd say they did well on the chorus, but the rest just feels flat compared to Imogens original or even the rehearsal version.

"The takeover, the sweeping insensitivity" part was close too.

Regardless, sounded great and I'm thankful they executed it and shared with us :)

  • it's pretty crazy that she (imogen heap) could basically perform this song the same way, minus 12 singers, plus a piano and voice converter.

  • @serafinic I prefer it more like this though, it's more natural ...organic. In the original song, she sounds like bunch of robots singing.

  • @serafinic she used autotune..

  • @uatam552 It's not autotune, It's called a vocoder.

  • @serafinic It's actually easier than you think. The keyboard she plays controls a vocoder so all she has to do is play the harmonies on the keyboard. I guess it's pretty hard to play piano and sing at the same time, but it's not crazy-hard and people do it all the time.

  • @serafinic Actually no it isn’t. It’s amazing that 12 singers could perform a song the same way as Imogen heap did by herself, using a computer.

  • @SassyMamaProductions thanks man. thumbs up

  • @serafinic it's because imogen heap is a genius!ahahhaa..she's a freakin muscial genius!

  • @serafinic Nah then the converters amazing... Since it isnt her doing the voices... She sings just like one of these people, if not worse... Heard her live, she has a beautiful voice but it isnt always tone/pitch perfect. Shes just a good vocalist with a very artistic mind and ear :)

  • @serafinic it's also pretty fake

  • @serafinic there's nothing crazy about it - it's called a harmonizer and the way it works is actually extremely simple. On the other hand, I'd say it's pretty damn crazy that 12 singers can recreate this song, despite the fact that they made it more harmonious than disharmonious compared to the original. It takes a lot of practice, a lot of coordination and a huge amount of skill to be able to do what these guys did.

I love the original, but this is the best a capella version I've found so far.

  • @serafinic It's actually just her and a piano. Used something to make the piano play as she sang.

  • It was really accurate harmonically until the climax of the song which is the "mmm whatcha say" part lol when the melody got a little lost in the harmonies. But that's probably bc of the stage position of the tenors.

  • not enough dissonant chords like the real song; the arranger tried to make it sound too harmonic. Still, very good, and you can tell the singers are all extremely musical.

  • @LProcker9798 I agree - almost every arrangement of this song fails to capture the crunchy chords in the original. Less choreography, more dissonance, I say! Nice singing by the group, though.

  • @LProcker9798 That's it! grr, couldn't figure what was happening. Way too much consonance

  • @LProcker9798 backed. there's no leading tones pulling you to the next chord.

  • @LProcker9798 because of that it makes it amazing as a 'backing' choir for my own voice. Twisting between all the levels. It's awesome XD

  • @LProcker9798 Though I get your point, there's a ton of dissonance in this arrangement. I'm not knocking on your comment. just giving my opinion :) cheers

  • @LProcker9798 You're right. The dissonant chords are what tug on your heartstrings and make your chest feel tight. This is pretty but lacks the emotional impact. Then again, when you've got several people of different ranges singing together, they tend to harmonize naturally.

  • It's very different, but it's good.

    JM

  • goosebumps!!

  • heard better.........

  • Yay McGill!

  • fullwonder!

  • Wonderfull.

  • woot McGill!

  • I love you guys

  • Perfect.

  • wow :)

  • Impressive!

  • breathtaking.

  • Amazing. The soprano was fantastic. I am in awe. Everything was so good!!

  • Your choir is amazing.

  • i liked the choreography. anyone who has studied music would be able to hear the difference in blends every time they switch positions. it was really good.

  • You are Great!!

  • wow!!

  • i think the choreography helps tell a story. i love a choir!

  • That high note was so beautiful!

  • What's with the choreography? What's wrong with standing still? Other than that it was a very nice arangement.

  • I think the choreography could have something to do with getting the right levels on the mic for certain parts, but I could be wrong. It may just be random.

  • mighty odd way to do it. I'm not sure it was but good suggestion!

  • When they move, there's a difference in how the voices blend, which adds to the effect they're trying to give.

  • Ooh that high note was goregeous!

  • Amazingly beautiful :) .. Angelic

  • beautiful guys! a great tribute to a wonderful artist :)

  • gut gemacht! aber leider hört man die hauptstimme nicht raus...

  • wow i got goosebumps listening to this, really good

  • I love this also the song, i believe she is an amazing artist.

  • Stunning arrangement.

  • wish I could've heard the melody a bit more on some parts, but great, high note was awesome!

  • great choir

  • Well done yall. Not quite Imogen, but very well done.

  • wow, this is truly amazing. beautiful. very well done.

  • beautiful

  • This was so cool! Great job

  • awsome

  • after listening again,

"the takeover" through "insensitivity" is AWESOME as far as dynamics.

I wish the following "hide and seek" was softer, though

and that the end was drawn out more, into ppppp

But still, I'll come back to this one

  • great consonants! Wish for more powerful/moving dynamics, but I understand this can be difficult when you're all moving around slash without a director right in front of you...

    overall A++

    :]

  • me neither

  • why is it that all good female singers are stunningly beautiful

  • Sing Off

  • Descant overpowers melody, unfortunately. Beautiful, though.

  • The "mmm whatcha say?" part didn't sound as nice as the original, but the rest was perfect!

  • Having watched this video over a dozen times, there is no denying its power...Seeing that it won "Best Arrangement" leads me to believe that this talented group chose to perform it in a different key and not in the "wrong" key !

  • awkward choreography, but great vocals

  • wow i think this is the best choir version i have heard of this. very nicely done, with a lot of very talented vocalists.

  • Well I look forward to auditioning when I get to McGill next year.

  • the walking across at 0:44 kinda ruins the effect haha

  • this is a great arrangement, and an awesome performance, although its in the wrong key. lol.

    but nonetheless, amazing.

  • Might be the wrong key, but I love it!

  • its not in the wrong... the girl that sings that harmonic just has an amazingly powerful voice, so it stands out!

  • @titaniumknight18 exactly

  • Great job all members!!! you guys sounded awesome (y) 5stars

  • Very pretty.

  • well done, i didnt think such a sound could come out of what looks like 15 people, the leading soprano did a really good job too.

  • Absolutely wonderful

  • NNNice.

  • goosebumps much?

  • OMG I want to be part of your choir to sing this song!!!!! xD It's so beautiful!!!!

  • yes, mcgill representing..

imogen heap is a fucking genius

  • Their blend is beautiful and they're clearly an excellent group, but I really don't feel as though the arrangement captures the intensity and general feeling of the original work.

  • Has anybody an arrangement of the song???

Would love to do it with my choir.

  • No matter how many versions of this song i listen to.. I always come back to this one. so touching.

  • omg that was dope i loved it!!!!!!! its so nice!!!! it make me happy :D

  • yeah at first the different key threw me off but I got over it, and decided that this is gorgeous. love it! I want to be in a group that would sing this song. lol none of my choirs sing this kind of music.
