indeed a gong bell whatever is invited to sound not banged or struck but honestly in this day and age the best thing to compare Thay to in terms of how well known he is and how many lives he has touched is a rockstar. I don't see how that is unsuitable myself lol! I think people need to judge less and find out what someones intention is and obviously the intention here is not malicious.
Being a passionate Buddhist and huge fan of Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh, I don't see why you can NOT use the term 'rock star'. Don't feel offended at all. You're right. Some of them all need to lighten up.

I agree that "rock star" is not a suitable description of Thay. Also, the gong is never "banged" nor even struck. The gong is invited to sound.
