al gore did bring to light the warming issue but then immediately attached the co2 as the cause. it was never debated and we listen to scientists who have no expertise in climate or solar activity who are caught up in gore's story. meanwhile no one hears about how 30,000 scientists have filed suit against gore over this lie nor that gore has made made well over a $100 million off of everyone's carbon guilt and government contracts to green companies that he owns. the debate ended before it began

Science is what shows there is a direct link between CO2 and warming. Gore has nothing to do with it ... other than as a talking head who makes mistakes. - never has been - never will be.

CO2 is a normal, natural, part of the biosphere. The sun get's hotter, and CO2 is released out of the oceans. The sun gets cooler, and CO2 goes back into the oceans. It's been like this for Billions of years. Don't believe the pseudo-science.

This year did the sun have very few "sunspots" (I believe its called in English), this winter was really cold here in Europe too, I assume they might have something to do with each other, since some scientists that does not say the debate is over, says that the climate change might be regulated by the suns activity.. I think some of the debate here misses the point. These guys say to look at the thing in economic terms "costs" and "benefits". Is 2 pct of the world's gdp to reduce co2 reasonable given co2 is actually necessary to life on earth? IF co2 reduction is critical "RIGHT NOW" then what is the most cost effective way to achieve it vs all the cap and trade scam approach? Wouldn't nuclear power plants be important? AGW is a hoax but ways to provide energy efficiently is a good thing..

I suggest that "global warming" is probably more likely to manifest in an ice age than continued warming. If so, our climate intervention strategy has to accommodate both global warming and global cooling scenarios. Space-based solar power systems could do it either way, low-earth orbits for casting a shadow on the equator, and geosynchronous orbits for not casting a shadow. The space tether (elevator) would be the only way to make this affordable.

No, its called cloud seeding. Listen to what they said. Clouds doesnt fall on the ocean because there is no dust to form cloud droplets. They kick up salt water, and the salt forms rain droplets (Its not the water they kick up, its the particles).

But if you seed clouds out on the ocean, then thats water that isnt falling on the land (where the dust is, and where it would otherwise form).

Though im still pro geoengineering.

There is no practical limit to how much cloud can form as the ocean`s water is effectively unlimited and the sunlight evaporating in one area has no effect on the sunlight in another area.

The point is to create more conditions where clouds are likely to form, mostly in areas where we have few clouds forming anyway.

Yes, but the clouds arent formed from the kicked up water, but from the salt particles that cause rain droplets to form around them from, the current moisture in the area. If this is moisture that would usually be blown over the land to form clouds -there- instead, will this mean less rainfall over land?

OK, yeah, this could be a problem in areas very close to land.

But once the air above the sea becomes dry chemistry kicks in. Moisture will be added at a higher rate because the system will no longer be in dynamic equilibrium (basically the dry air will not be adding moisture to the sea but the sea will to the air).

Since the temperature/pressure aren`t really affected it would probably return to normal moisture levels, or at least get very close, in a short time (few hours? days?)

Air travelling near the surface picks up heat and moisture, but as it rises and cools, it releases this moisture as rain. There are massive systems of high and low pressure in our climate pushing moisture around the atmosphere that cause floods or drought depending on where it falls (monsoons, trade winds, el nino etc). The Sahara exists because of these global air currents. We really need to understand these systems better so we can engage in geoengineering wisely.

I mean, few days ago CW (and other local San Diego channels) forecasted a clear and hot day in the morning, but the day turned out cold and damp. How could we foresee a global wide side effect when we can't even predict today's weather, and never stop altering the system?
