I just noticed something... All of todays artists have ear-bud monitors anytime they perform... A TRUE artist like Merle doesn't need them. Pure authenticity!
@4tonydoll Merle goes with with monitor wedges because he's old school and that is what he is used to singing on. Had he had a chance to really use them, he might prefer in ears since they offer superior monitoring in a live situation. There are plenty of wonderful performers who use them for that reason...and they are wise to use them. Monitor wedges have nothing to do with being a "true" artist. In fact, one could argue the opposite. Having said that, he sings well on them.
@4tonydoll It's not that he doesn't "need" them. He simply chooses, prefers (wedges), or doesn't know any different. Nobody "needs" ear buds. Many people prefer them because of their detail over wedges. In ears take some getting used to, though, and some people don't like them and never put the time into learning to sing on them properly. They take every bit as much skill. Remember, before ear buds, everyone sang on wedges. Merle is a product of that time period
Merle Haggard is still a great country singer and will always be one of the best.
