Just great.. I saw him in both his concerts in Manila. One in 1982 at the Folks Art Theater and the other at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last year. After the Araneta concert we were having coffee at the lobby lounge of the EDSA Shangrila Hotel with my wife. Later after she went to the rest room, she came back to me ecstatic because she saw Don Mclean at the lobby. I wish I also did.
One of my old time favorites. The songwriting and singing here is top notch. It also has a spiritual feel that I'm not sure even Don realized he was portraying.
man in the early 90's when i raided my stepdads record stash, everyone wanted to hear zepplin and the doors, and that was cool...but it was hard to get my friends into simon and garfunkel, don mclean and other great acoustics...they all grew up on mettallica and freakin ozzy....too bad for them...
The first time I heard this song I was so young, and the words and lyrics and the sound of this song tickels my ears even now. DM is a very good lyricist, guitarist, vocalist, and performer roll in one. For me you're the best, Don Mclean.
Legendary song I'd guess, it is amazing how the guitar carries the song so effortlessly, and yes the lyrics are deeply profound, just another beautiful song from a twentieth century master, I, for one, have no idea what my world would have been like without the words and music of Don McLean, thank you: You Tube, berjudit, and Don McLean for the space, the upload, and for being the genius that is Don McLean, long may all of you live!
Beautiful song, heard this for the first time today ♥ Thank you rocker53zero ♥ I love the one you recorded for me better, even though this is superb ♥ Please post yours here ♥
Yes it is quite so that i post here that in exactly 1 day 47 hours 39 seconds i will destroy someones soul. and i do not know whos, it may be yours, but i will
Ya knowwwwwww... this song, 1995 Summer. I played this song over and over and made my boyfriend slow dance with me. We share a daughter now. We unfortunately did not stay together... but his daughter and I always sigh allll happy like when we listen to this. She and I know its "our" song. *SMILE*
@mirwin931 I like mr dylans words , not his voice , Don Mclean is on a totally differant level, he, s a gift from God , . . Ive treasured his career , and his style of poetry that envelopes the true artists calling, . . . russell the wizzard on myspace july 16thy 2010
@del2reb I grew up listening to Don McLean and was lucky to see him perform in Liverpool just 3 nights ago and he was inspiring. He performed Winterwood (which is my favourite) and it was an absolute privilege to be there and see him play. You would have loved it. The man is an underrated genius.
Yes, of all time. I would include Paul Simon's Graceland in the twenty and Marty Robbins Gunfighter Songs and Ballads and Roy Orbinsons greatest hits. Of bands I would include the Moody Blues Days of Future Pass
My favorites from him, Winterwood, Crying, If We Try. Anybody has his rendition of "Love Letters"? Also a great version from Don. Please, somebody post.
Awesome, awesome, awesome! It's an odd thing to say, but American Pie overshadowed so many great songs of McLean's. I'm thrilled that he's still touring (Folk Festival in Lyons, Colorado on August 15!)
OdieDenver, You are so right. That kind of silly song ("American Pie") was interesting, but it just blurred over his really great stuff. This guy's range is like Roy Orbison's (which he proved with "Crying"), and that's going some. :-)
Thank you Terry ,this is beautiful! Never heard it before, you're right he did some great stuff everyone knows, but maybe his best is rarely heard. xx
One of the greatly unappreciated songs. "You are as natural as the nigh, and all that springs from you is good..." Incredible lyrics, Don! One of my favorite songs ever.

Don Mclean is a great American singer and songwriter, and it saddens me that he does not get the wide recognition today that he deserves.
