I started BJJ several years before I began MMA and cauliflower ear wasnt a problem back then. I dunno if it was wrestling or striking or if the combination made it happen. Either way it isn't very pleasant taking hooks to the side of the head - no matter what size the glove, then having to contend with forearms grinding up and down the side of your face, mat burn, GnP...it all ads up to one gross looking ear. Thats why fighting isn't for everyone.
