  • All chess tournaments should be played on computers, let alone this ridiculous wooden analysis board.

  • @xxxIronLeexxx It's a lot more fun to play with a real board and pieces. Just like one would probably prefer to play card games with real cards and not via a computer.

  • nice game nice guy, nothing more to add

  • Great video, now I have a new favorite player!

  • Still I dont buy that exchange-sac. As a computer-kid I would ask my computer and even after one hour analyse he would say the same I do, that the sac is not correct. I dont see much reason why it should. Giri probably just went wrong, open lines, b3 never happened. I didnt analyse but I find that sac a little bit strange even though exchange-sacs are well known, in french (tarrasch, Rxf3) or benoni or in sicilian, but most often I find more compensation than here in this game.

  • @1985ManuelB

computers are usually bad at calculating dynamics, I play kings indian on the black side, and usually computer gives white plus 1, even though position is fine.

  • @stevenash13beast dont know what u mean with "dynamics". if u mean tactics, comp is good at that. KI is a story for itself, comp is bad at calculating sacs, esp. in advance, this is prob with comp and KI, cos in the latter there are lots (nxe4,bxh3...). more often than not comp is absolutely right and black just isnt fine but worse. maybe fine for u cos ur accomodated to that (worse[bl]-worse[bl]-worse[bl]-mistake[white]-mate[white]).ugly enough my comp likes rxf3 as best move.

  • @stevenash13beast They're not bad at calculating dynamics, because dynamics only apply to humans. They don't analyze the complexity of a position, only thousands of variations to find the objectively best move.

  • @andrewh817 What he probably meant was imbalances (knight for pawns, queen for minors, rook against pieces and so on - or, as here, rook against bishop), and there he is very right. even though comp have become much better in that regard material imbalance is still the most difficult thing for them to analyse.

  • @1985ManuelB yes it did seem premature but in retrospect it's as if he saw the entire game unfold when he played it and you can't argue w/ success -look at how he gradually improves n consolidates his position while white came apart at the seams, hopelessly uncoordinated when the last blows are struck

textbook example of pure positional play -a stunningly beautiful game n the fact that his opponent was Anish Giri, a fellow Super GM, immortalises it

has to win the brilliancy prize

  • @1985ManuelB My computer and several others have agreed that the exchange sac was correct.

  • Aronian has a very correct behaviour, very polite, actually very simple things, but to some it seems its difficult: no "show-like" behaviour, let the others speak to the end, say "thank you", look into the eyes whom you talking to, and answer what you was asked, not less because it's too "private" or to other things and so on. he said "sorry" when he dropped a piece. I act like that as well but I find that very seldom existing in other guys.

  • The most amazing thing about Levon's play is his deep understanding of positional factors. I'm 2100 USCF, and though I realized that Lev had compensation for the exchange sac, I didn't realize just how bad Giri's position was. Who wouldn't look at the e6-d5-c4 chain and the Bd7 and say, "Where is black's compensation? This bishop is horrible!" The thing that Aronian didn't put into English was why Giri's position was worse and why his was actually better... (continued)

  • great games by Aronian, such a great guy too. I hope he gets a good result and Chuckie too! Giri is coming strong, but it's not his time yet.

  • After 30 years, I've never played chess and havn't got a clue how to.

  • i met levon at the london chess classic; he was the nicest person i met there by far. i asked if i could have a picture of him and he asked if i would like a picture of us together instead. of course!! totally nice of him, he did not have to do it.

i love his style; i can not imagine a better world champion

  • @patrickJMT I wanna see him battle Anand again

  • @rooksman64 i want to see him play carlsen for the wc!

  • I must admit I like the standup boards for the simple reason that it take longer to show the variations which means you can catch much more of what is going on. When a GM takes control of a computer they often rattle through the moves too quick for you to catch everything.

  • He is such a humble person...doesn't even relish the moment of the beautiful...Ne1..!!!

  • Before this tournament, I liked Carlsen more , but now,,,,,,,I feel as if Aronian take the lead, may be just because, Carlsen was a little....desappointing in the last games, something what many from his fans didn't expect from his part. But the genius are humans too, aren't they? So let's hope for his recovery, at the best of his skills.

  • He is such a nice bud... Someone please change his freaking photo on chessgamesdot

  • I really like the way Aronian comments on his games. Differently from the others, he picks up the right words, does not fret, speaks calmly and makes everything perfectly understandable to anyone. I hope he wins!

  • I just really like Aronian. Well deserved leading pos

  • Aronian's such a cool character.

  • I really like this display board. It shows the essence of the chess game, which is basically a game with wooden pieces, not software on a computer. I hope they stick to this way. Even if they occasionally drop a piece of wood, it still works fine

  • @RuudJH Totally agreed.

  • @RuudJH Fuck that. It's not 1850.

  • Man he's a genius. He understand every single move...

  • nice!

  • Why do they still use these ridiculous display boards?! Why not just use a screen with a computer?

  • @brn20 Why are they ridiculous? It's much easier to show ideas with a free-moving board, which is impossible with a screen and cursor. Easier to show ideas etc.
