  • I always feel smarter after listening to Neil. Its amazing that people press the dislike bar on any of his videos on yt. Must be reliogious rubes. Why cant people like him run for president?

  • "Sexy Hot Catwoman is Sexy Hot - Dragon Con" What the fuck?

  • And what's forever than

  • If I ever want to listen to something inspiring, I look up this man

  • You are the universe experiencing itself.

  • He is not disproving God or religion at all, he is just going about this as a science experiment, and that he'd love to just test the thought process and feelings that go through peoples heads, his theory about the universe doesn't say anything about there not being a greater being, none of us know

  • religious maniacs <---- this is why we cant have nice things

  • "we are stardust, we are golden, we are billion year old carbon. All is forgiven". - Corey Mesler from We Are Billion Year Old Carbon

  • did anyone ever do the experiment on the brain that he was talking about?

  • this brotha is to deep, got to listen to him twice.

  • This man saved my soul from religion.

  • Too bad The Virgin Mary and Joesph did not give birth to a Neil instead of a Jesus hippie that put our progress back a thousand years. I feel cheated that Christianity will not join Greek and Roman Mythology in my life time.

  • @tayzerdbaby33

Society is evolving fast. There are a couple of countries on this planet which already overcame theism (Sweden: 98% atheism). So there is hope. Maybe we witness a golden age without religion in the winter of our own life. That would be just a sweet scenerie to go.

  • God damn you religious maniacs. Can we not have a video about science and knowledge without you showing up and telling us we are going to hell? Why cant you let us be? Why must you troll anything that takes about logic instead of magic? Why can't you just be happy and believe in your god? Is that not enough for you lol

  • @stuartfiasco

is it trifling to you to allow me to say that science and God are co existent? That God is the scientist of your world today? Why is it a crime that I, a follower of Christ, wishes to explore the vast universe as much as the average scientist. Except I am capable of including God in all of it. Because He invented it.

  • @stickman2012 nah dude its not trifling per say its just a little off kilter in a sense because surely a God should have known about heliocentic theory( aproven fact now) when Johua chapter ten was written. We can't include jesus because the bible is not a text book its a way to guide you through life. Not a science book because if it were that means God is a believer in Geocentric theory(proven wrong, by science, not the bible).

  • @warangel87 I meant Joshua chapter ten sorry mispelled

  • @stuartfiasco Because they're a bunch of delusional fucking idiots. That's why.

  • @stuartfiasco I'm a Christian and totally appreciate and agree with what you said here, thanks

  • if he held a church service about doing what you love and using shit like that it would be more popular than religion.

  • if i did smoke weed. I would love to smoke it with this brother!

  • Man of the century award?

  • Fabulous and uplifting . . .

  • I hope in the future we will have sciences as performing art and this man will be seen as one of its early practitioners. This is at least as rousing as Chicago and twice as gratifying upon later reflection. I hope this becomes a feature of our culture.

  • "nasa costs half a penny on the dollar" -Neil Degrasse Tyson

he is wrong. nasa doesnt cost this much anymore because politicians are defunding it in favor of feeding people who dont work and funding wars that dont end.

  • MAgnificient

  • Neil is projecting!!! He said "He feels large when he looks at the cosmos" Pride?!

  • Damn, I love this guy.

"His ego was too big to begin with!" - LOL. There we have the explanation to the problem of religious people through the ages rejected and were afraid of science. From the moment he's born you tell your kid over and over again that God thinks he's special and Jesus loves him? A big ego is the inevitable result. Kid grows up and learns he's not the summit of creation? No wonder he'll cower down and lash out at science occasionally.

  • Believing in a god is boring. Believing in the universe is much more exciting and interesting. I think George Carlin said it best, "It doesn't punish, it doesn't reward, it doesn't judge at all. It just is. And so are we. For a little while."

  • We got a badass over here...!

  • He makes the hairs on my arm stand up

  • As Alan Watts said (though in a more metaphysical sense), you are that vast thing that you see far, far off with great telescopes.

  • @Tengent :) Nice to see some Alan Watts love. that man was a genius..

  • Awesome isn't a strong enough word to describe Neil. FREAKING LOVE YOU NEIL

  • I ain't afraid of your Yahweh, I ain,t afraid of your Allah, I ain,t afraid of your Jesus, I,m afraid of what you do in the name of your God. A great song by Holly Near that says it all. on itunes.

  • Thhe Creator is smarter.

  • I watch this video every night as I press my uniform.

  • not all hail Cornel West I consider Cornel and Tavis 'Butt hurt negroes on tour'

  • I just smile every time I hear Neil DeGrasse Tyson talk. He's brilliant.

  • Stars died, so we could exist.

  • Speak.

  • 6:50 - "Common origin in the core of a star"

This literally gave me goosebumps and tear up. How fucking awesome is that fact??? Absolutely incredible....

  • I was an atheist, but now I see that I was wrong. There is a god, and his name is Neil Degrasse Tyson. May we listen to his words and praise his absolute wisdom. Amen.

  • @redshadowsword Neil is Jesus. God is Carl Sagan, the holy spirit is Isaac Newton.

    I'm gonna convert to Cosmoism.

  • @CarmenRocks Cosmoism or cosmicism? As a lovecraft geek I approve either way.

  • @CarmenRocks

which is specifically what they would NOT want you to do.

  • @CarmenRocks Blasphemy!!!

  • @CarmenRocks i was with you up until isaac newton. that guy was a doucher

  • @CarmenRocks Yeah, what you said.

    I miss Carl.

  • @CarmenRocks Ummm my god is better than yours. Albert Einstein for the win. Convert or you're damned to hell!

    ;P

  • @trinikagekavir Nope, never! Dr. Sagan is Dr. Tyson's mentor, it would only make perfect sense to make Sagan God and Tyson Jesus.

Also, this is the religion of Cosmoism, Einstein isn't an astronomer or an astrophysics. :)

Maybe in theoretical-physicism. In that case the holy trinity will consist of Galileo Galilei, Albert Einstein, and Stephen Hawking. :D

  • @CarmenRocks heheh I was kidding of course.

I agree with your trinities though. Carl Sagan is the best. (Although let's be honest Neil has said that Isaac Newton was the greatest scientist ever so he should be God)

    :)

    /no arguments though

  • @redshadowsword ur such an asshole

  • @EpicTrollQueen OH NO! Somebody on the internet called me as asshole. Oh what should I do? Oh yeah...........not give a shit.

  • @redshadowsword classic asshole response

  • @EpicTrollQueen Classic troll tactic......

  • @redshadowsword Classic asshole comeback

  • @redshadowsword Neil is a preacher not a God. I hope he continues to preach the importance of scientific literacy over blind faith for years to come. And hopefully he'll get a little more open about his disbelief in God like Dawkins has done. The more respected scientists there are who are willing to reveal their true beliefs the better the world will become. Religion always remains a taboo subject for most people. Until people get more open to new and rational ideas, the world isn't changing.

  • @redshadowsword Dude atheism is for dummies who want to know it all. NO ONE knows rather there is a god or not and it is arrogant and idiotic to say that you do.

  • @gtas321 First of all, what I said was joke so get over it. Second, nowhere did i say that i claim to know if there is a God. As an atheist, I don't BELIEVE in the God because there is no proof of God. True, there is NO proof that there is no God, but there is also no proof that there is no leprechauns, fairies, or boogeymen. You most likely do not believe in them....so why would you believe in God which has just as much probability of existing as little winged people that live in meadow.

  • @redshadowsword Of course you would regurgitate one of Dawkin's arguments. When will atheists learn to make up their OWN arguments..

Comparing god to that of fairy tales that we can track to their roots and dispose of, or even go out and prove for ourselves, is not comparable to the existence of god. And I am scientific deist, the god that I believe in is a hell of a lot more likely to exist than a person with wings...

  • @gtas321 Due to the fact that i would rather not waste time arguing with you, I propose a we call a truce. There is no way you will get me to accept your point of view, and vise versa. Let us leave it at that. I bid you good day and at this point will politely exclude myself from any further conversation with you.

  • @gtas321 i wonder when theist will make up their OWN argument... quoting the bible forever is boring

  • @ferjero989 I am not theist...

  • @gtas321 There's no point in arguing until someone can prove the existence of a god, and not just to themselves. Until then, it's just a belief, and beliefs aren't facts. There's no good reason for someone to take your beliefs seriously.

  • @PACKyourSHITfolks420 It is just a belief, just like atheism is the exact opposite. Agnosticism is the only logical way, that is why I am agnostic deist... -_-

  • @gtas321 Atheism is a rejection of specific religious claims. It doesn't take away the possibility of a god. There's just no belief in one. And deism is a belief too.

  • @PACKyourSHITfolks420 Atheism is not only a rejection of specific religious claims, atheism is the disbelief in a god. ABSOLUTE belief that there is no god. That's like saying I could be a christian but say that I am not sure if god is real, when the bible clearly states that you have to believe without a doubt to be a christian. Atheism and Theism are equally stupid. Agnosticism and Deism are both more logical and scientific. But I have got to say agnosticism reigns.

  • @gtas321 There is no such thing as absolute disbelief. You either believe or you don't. You must mean a claim of knowledge, which isn't what atheism is. Just look at this show, they never say they know there is no god, they just say there's no proof that there is. Agnostics say they aren't sure.

  • @PACKyourSHITfolks420 agnosticism isn't about a lack of confidence, you dope. no agnostic says "i'm just not sure", they ARE sure that it is unknowable. at least by definition.

just as atheists are sure that there is no God. No Creator, no Universal Mind, no Cosmic Entity, no Prime Mover, no First Cause. All life is the result of a completely random process with no Mind or Design to guide it: that is atheism. You're just being a disingenuous atheist, which is so common it's almost redundant

  • @eleutheromaniac An agnostic who thinks it's unknowable, and is being intellectually honest, will admit that they aren't sure if there's a god or not, because you can't know anyway. And atheists are not sure that there is no god. They just don't believe. You can't truly be sure.

  • @PACKyourSHITfolks420 it's not about being "sure".

It's like Schrodinger's Cat--it's not that you're unsure if the cat is alive or dead, it's not about confidence, the evidence is that the cat is either/both.

Then a person to the right of the agnostic says "I'll bet that cat is dead", the agnostic asks "why do you say that?"..."because I see no evidence that the cat is alive."

do you see the irrational position of the person saying the cat is dead? and equally if he said it was alive?

  • @PACKyourSHITfolks420 the difference is that God is eternal and omnipresent, by any standard definition. So the "box", so to speak, is therefore eternally closed. It isn't just unknown, it is unknowable, forever.

If you don't see evidence proving or disproving God, right here, right now, then you NEVER will. That is the belief of agnostics.

  • @gtas321 Religion is for people who want to "know" it all. As an athiest I don't need to "know" it all the lazy way. I accept there are things I can't explain and I don't just chalk it up to an all powerful being that must have created it. Maybe it is what it is, and that's all it is. Religion=control and gives people a meaning when there is no meaning. I wish I did believe because it seems so much easier and convenient than not believing in a god or omnipotent power.

  • @srjdog I don't even have a religion. I am deist. Don't assume just because someone contradicts your own beliefs that they will always be a theist.

  • @gtas321 a deist is still a believer in something. but i aplaud your none religion ansore

  • to paraphrase Dresden Codak, we are all "forged from the remnants of supernovas."

  • Beautiful.

  • You're a star baby, twinkle twinkle

  • HALLELUJAH!! now please deposit $100 into the money hat...

  • I never tire of hearing this man speak.

  • Once again. Neil is a living hero.

  • ....but this guy does the same thing just replaces the word god with the word universe and it's supposed to be ok. i don t think so... it s still a corny sentence,.. full of false humbleness. i don t care if he is a brilliant scientist or whatever, he' s still a cocky windbag. :)

  • I don t like him at all. He's trying to be humble but just oozes cockyness.I hate it when ppl do that..When the words and the manner in which the words that are spoken do not match. And he does this all the time..false humbleness sucks.I hate: "the universe choose me crap too".It has a religious ring to it..i m sure it's intentional, but at least when the religious start talking about the god choose me crap..you're allowed to laugh at them,.. it s become socially acceptable..which is how i like it

  • @igorkra11 Nobody's stopping you from laughing at him, but all I see is a man who loves what he does and who wants to share his passion with the people around him.

  • @UberREDKitteh Most preachers are passionate about what they do to. Usually they aren't that bright. Neil is probably pretty smart. Nontheless when he makes a corny sentence like he did i still think he deserves to be laughed at, just like the preachers deserve it on such occasions. I definetely don't like his attitude either. He definetely oozes cocky "humbleness" like i mentioned before.

  • A 21st enlightened being : Neil deGrasse Tyson

  • Tyson needs to shut up....my hands are hurting from clapping so much because of his awesome. PLEASE STOP MY HANDS ARE KILLING ME!!!

  • Now THIS is a sermon.

  • YES! YES! YES! NEIL IS SO FUCKIN BEST!

  • hey cool Nov 7 is my B-day

  • I have never been so touched and felt like I am greater than when I heard the words starting at 9:07 Science is my religion and Neil deGrasse Tyson is my Pastor.

  • @DeMart501 You probably mean well, but talking of science as a religion is downright insulting.

  • @PhyOSPhyOS It was meant to be taken as a metaphor, rather then a literal meaning. As I don't take things based on faith, but rather on fact that can be proven.

  • @BigBagsForRent2 STFU troll

  • @BigBagsForRent2 unsuccessful troll is unsuccessful.

  • Yep, it's true. A good appreciation of astrophysics is really good for putting the proper perspective on things. It should humble people to realise how incredibly small and insigificant we are.

  • How is he not our president?

  • i wish there was a man like this to inspire me when i was a child

  • respect.

  • This man is extraordinarily intelligent

  • @ArsenicKills Is he!

  • Neil Tyson is on my list of people I hope I meet one day just to shake their hand and tell them that they are awesome

  • @Trollsnews Trololol

  • I am Black, and I have to ask a question. The question is, "Why do Black people hail Cornel West as a groundbreaking intellectual while this man, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, walks the Earth?" This man is my hero! Neil is the real deal and an inspiration. Cornel West is an overrated double talker. For the human race to survive, religion has to fade away.

  • @7A35 who the fuck is Cornel West?

  • @zander798 You just proved my point. Thank you. That is the way it should be. Who the fuck is Cornel West?

  • @7A35

i could not agree with you more. and i wish this man could have more of a political influence on the usa.

  • @finan03 "i wish this man could have more of a political influence on the usa."

It's not just about politics, but also about the general scientific litteracy and interest in learning more about the world via science of the public in general, especially the young generation. Let's hope that the new "Cosmos" remake will be a) good, and b) reach a LOT of young people.

Living up to the level of awesomeness of the first Cosmos will be hard, but I hope the team behind the remake will succeed.

  • @7A35 Science does not care about colour. Neither should you.

  • @ViXoN2 I do not care about color. I was commenting on the negative side of a culture I am very familiar with because I was raised in it. Being very familiar with that culture; I observed that many Blacks in this country do not even know who Tyson is. I feel this is the direct result of being taught to respect double talkers with no scientific background like West.I admire Tyson and feel the Black community should give him more press. This would influence the next generation of children.

  • @ViXoN2 There was nothing in the comment you commented on that indicated I actually care about race. Mentioning the race was the way of be very specific about the group I was referring to.The group I am from.I know, from experience, that the unwarranted reverence for religion and double talking theists is contributing to the lack of progression in the community I am from.

  • @7A35 I don't see what you mean. All the black people I know LOVE this man. So do all the white ones and the Asian ones and the Latino ones.

  • @7A35 West's ideas are definitely what one might call "out there," but he and Dr. Robert George (also from Princeton) have done three panel discussions at my school in recent years, and West is absolutely hilarious. A guffawingly funny man.

  • @7A35 Statistics show the higher the standard of education the less likely to believe in a sky fairy, apparently the human rae is getting smarter around 3 IQ points per decade as quoted by Michael Shermer, so we should se religion slowly phase out.

  • @ZukefliJohan Have you seen the quote that says if every atheist left the US, America would lose 93% of it's Nat. Academy of Science but only 1% of prison population?

  • @lardtaziumwadmaster Yes I heard similar somewhere, can't remember where.

I think Dawkins may have mentioned that, funny also when he mentioned members of congress that admit they are atheist, one or two I think, which is statistically almost impossible, sort of showing people lie a lot about their faith to fit in.

I wonder how many normal people do that so not to dissapoint their family?

  • @7A35 well said

  • @7A35 worst part is that cornell west really doesn't understand much of what he talks about...i find him kind of annoying...NDT is awesome :D

  • @7A35 man !!! you are 1000% correct !!! I have spent hours watching his vids on youtube and his shows on pbs.

  • @7A35

Ignorant people who senselessly hate, like you, are what need to fade away.

  • @NarlepoaxIII Is something wrong with your critical thinking? I never indicated hate for anything in my comment. Troll.

  • @7A35

Religion is not the problem, it's people who hate or are prejudiced against others because they disagree.

  • @NarlepoaxIII People invented religion so they can manipulate the lazy, stupid and the poor, why do you think religion is not the problem.

  • @eyu1858945

...all I can say to that is that you are an untrusting, ignorant, hateful person. I don't care to know you, and I pity those who do.

  • @NarlepoaxIII here you go, no counter examples but sure go ahead and attack me personally, great job I guess you learn that from the bible and Jesus LOL

  • @eyu1858945

It's not that I don't have any, it's that I have hundreds, and all of them would be too complicated to explain to someone as steeped in hatred as you.

  • @NarlepoaxIII hahahaa I guess they are right, kids only know how to repeat the same thing their parents say to them everyday lol

  • @eyu1858945

If you're going to try to insult someone, you should at least use a good insult. One that is insulting.

  • @7A35 I could not of said it better!

  • @7A35 Human species not race

  • @SnapPaintball Of course. My apologies.

  • @7A35

Don't forget Walter E. Williams and Thomas Sowell.

  • Excellent talk, very inspiring. Love this guy's view.

  • fuck he went to bronx sci?

  • I'm not into bumper stickers, but the universe is in me would make a great one.

  • @waswestkan Is that like Jesus (the logos) is in me? It means the same thing you know.

  • The 5:14 astronomical image of outer space resembles to me at least the uncanny face of a beautiful woman. The smeared blue conceals all except for a right eye.

  • Does anyone know the exact name of the psychologist who he refers to around 4:40?

  • I LOVE IT :) DNA has proven our connection to one another to and Neil DeGrasse Tyson has also proven what else were made of. NOW if you believe the bible that's cool to whatever floats your boat because it says were made from dust, or clay and isn't clay dust and water in a scene.

  • Eh? Happy photons? Depressed photons? (Moronic photons more like). Gee, I hate sermons.

  • This is the Tyson that is the heavyweight champion of the world.

  • Tyson is a great man! My father loved Carl Sagan and I love Neil Tyson!

  • GRAB PPL IN THE STREET HAVE YOU HEARD THIS...LOL,,,THIS GUY IS BEST TEACHER EVER ,,,REALLY MOTIVATING...

  • I didn't see Dawkins, where was he?

  • @standingontruth1 A video of a neil degrasse tyson speech isn't the best place to find people who will buy your nonsense

  • This man is so awesome.

I could listen to him all day. If i ever visit the US, ihope that maybe i could meet him.

    One can only hope...

  • @SilentToe THATS WHAT MAKES ME WANNA GRAB PEOPLE IN THE STREETS AND SAY HAVE YOU HEARD THIS?? exactly how I feel. Btw you know where he teaches?

  • I love how passionate he is about science. :)
