that is not how u throw a cutter. u will screw ur elbow permanently doin this. there is several ways to properly throw a cutter. The basic concept is this; to hold a 4 seam fastball grip, and just move your index and middle finger closer to the side of the ball, so it creates a cutting action when released. don't, i repeat, listen to this dude, he is obviously not a pitcher.
you do turn your wrist... fastball= no wrist turn.. no movement.. cutter=slight wrist turn.. slight drop. still fast. slider= a little more wrist turn. roll the ball off your finger tips. curveball= even more wrist turn.. much like a karate chop.. thats why it drops the most... it's physics.. come on.
dude that is that is the same way you would hold a curveball pretty much you need to learn the proper way to throw a cut fastball or cutter what ever you want to call it.THIS IS NOT A REALLY CUTTER DO NOT BELIEVE HIM YOU WILL END UP INJURING YOUR ARM !!!
that isnt how u throw it! u r supposed to hold it like a 4 seamer and have your middle and index fingers together at the outer third of the ball and then you just throw it like a four seamer strait down not snaping or cocking your wrist and the grip of the ball will cause unusual spin on the ball creating that late movement
A cutter is a cut fastball...how old is this kid anyway.
You grip it like a 4 seem, move your fingers over to the C part of the seam, right had side of the ball, and apply more pressure with your middle finger instead of both. Then, slighlty cock your wrist inward during the motion.
cutters dont do anything to you s dont wrry about tomy jhon ive gotton b4 and im 12 and the pitch that gave me it was the slurve and the curve you can throw anything else but i dont reccemend a screw baall
i was messing around and had my fingers just like this i got it mastered tiop is to make sure it leaves ur middle finger last and make sure both pointer and middle finger on seems.
... kinda right but you do turn your wrist. You might not do it now cause that'll ruin your elbow if you do it at your age, but as you get older you should roll your wrist at the last second
so its basically a 12-6 without flicking ur wrist

@AirlessTJ ur an idiot the cutter and curve go the same direction

Fellas, I'm pretty sure that wrist motion he made was to show how the ball would move in the air, and not that you do that motion with your wrist.
If you think you will blow out your arm throwing a cut fastball then you better stop throwing all together. It's all about finger pressure.

@aaronjason1 That's what he did? He moved his fingers. He didn't say anything about a snap or wrist turn.
I think that wrist motion he made was to show how the ball will cut in the air.

yeah... I learned how to throw it on my own messing around.... mine sinks a little bit 2...
I pitched 3 innings and had 7 ground outs (all on the cutter) a strike out (on change-up) and a fiy out (on a fastball)
Anyhow I used it a good bit and all of the ground outs except one were on the cutter. The other was on a sinking Change-up...
I wanted to know if that was natural to happen?
(I'm 14)
