i liked the movie for its visuals and the choice of actors. but other than that, i personally think it was a disaster-they changed almost ALL of the plot in comparison to the novel. Where in the book everything made sense, and followed some logic, in the movie it was the opposite. i felt that a lot of scenes were not very natural and in some way forced. Tthe biggest failure was in capturing, or rather lack of it, the emotional change in the characters and thus Barsoom, influenced by John Carter.

This is a great flick - very close to the original novels, which were written 100 years ago. If you think it's Avatar, Part 2, think again - Avatar was actually John Carter, Part 2. This story was the progenitor of Star Wars, Avatar, the Martian Chronicles, Superman... you name it.

Beautifully shot old-school sci-fi. It's like Prince of Persia meets meets Avatar.I had hope for this one and still do, i respect that it is one of the most expensive movie ever made.The movie was about 2 hours long but it felt like 3.. the storyline was interesting so it kept me focused. The visual effects were really well done.the acting was ok.Taylor Kitsch could'v done better. Lynn Collins was extremely hot and talented.Go see it, you won't be disappointed.

People, this book (series) was written back on 50s. Amazing book! A must read. The movie was close to the "Princess of Mars" part of that book. So, it is not the "copy" Avatar" or "Prince of Persia." The reason why critics are all pissy is that they never read the original book and that the movie (of course) cannot be as good as the book. Becides, who cares about what critics have to say? What is definitely confusing is the Avengers. Weird!
