the Mrs Stone, behaves as if she is living inside a virtual vaccum without the first clue that her husband has a life beyond the front door & the party , WTF? When an Air Force Colonel asks to speak to your husband , you say OK right away... unless she is doped up on Valiums
It's a fantastic movie. I love it. I saw it when I was 6 y.o. and I were very impressed and some flicks are still in my mind. The new version is terrible.
The SDS was a radical organization. The SDS often coordinated activities with the Black Panthers and espoused radical, though at first, Marxist, means of protest.
Can I just add my voice to those condemning the recent remake? It's so bad as to be unwatchable.
Well you know its all to give it context and connect with the audience. They do cite 1971 as the year, not 2009. the movie would lack content and not engage the audience if otherwise.
It was a pretty good movie. But the topical references are amazing; in this clip we hear about the SDS, "love-ins", and burning draft cards. It's almost as if the people making the movie were trying to capture an era in addition to telling the main story.
I first saw this movie in high school after having to read the book in the same class. The book was excellent and the movie just solidified it for me. Thank you OP for making this work of art available to the masses.
YEAH! ASIAN AT 5:20! And, Dr. Leavitt is a woman? I thought "it" was a man...The book didn't specify. At least, I don't remember if it did or did not...
The main problem I have with this movie is that it portrays the government as basically efficient. It isn't.

SDS stands for Students for a Democratic Society. It was an organization that was popular among college students during the Vietnam War.

what I love about this film, among other things, is that the female lead is not a pneumatic top model.....much more credible.

Scary as hell, even today, smart script and fine acting made it happen.

At 5:49 you see the bearded surgeon: is it Michael Crichton himself?

Yes, that's him... LOL. He did a cameo.
